durodee:I eventually delved to the realm of thin film panels............14 pieces of 100W DuPont Apollo Panels, all in parallel to a 60amp iTracer MPPT CC............averages 50-59 amps by noon, got as high as 1646.2W or higher as spikes! So far so good!!!! Trying but unable to load pics ?? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by chris81964(m): 2:35pm On Aug 21, 2015 |
durodee:Thin film are awesome if you have the room for them. They are not as sensitive to shading or heat. They also perform better in low light conditions relative to your mono or poly. You are maxing out your controller. 1646 divided by 24 Volts is about 66 amps. You might want to go to a bigger controller. 1 Like 1 Share |

chris81964:You are absolutly right on all counts! Read that these exceptionally high values will only last a few months though as the panels settle in. Then the yield will fall back to rated figures, especially panels from good manucfacturers, or lower and these changes were poorly understood as "loss of efficiency". About the CC, these figures were spikes. Unfortunately i saw 1674 W or so at a time! I am strongly hoping the CC will be able to bear these, as the usual watts range between 1300- 1450W. Come dry season, the CC will be sorely stressed but by then the panels will hopefully produce 1400W±5% at their peak. 2 Likes |

durodee: Good evening Sir, what a nice set up you have there as a DIY personnel. Splendid I must say! I can see my powerstar light inverter, ep solar mppt, USA trojan flooded batteries and A&E "80v-270v input range" servo stabilizer etc ruggedly at work .. Thanks for your patronage once again . God bless! 2 Likes |

now that I am a loyal "customer" , maybe I go enjoy promo too, heh? I am still on SMF batts hoping to give Trojan a try as soon as cash flow allows. All supply I got (2 piece of iTracer CC , one 6kw inverter and 2 A&E Servos ) are working great. I am yet to put the timer to use sha. Will be glad to do more business with you! kiekie1: |

Hello house. is there anyone here that can connect 3 outback inverters to produce 3 phase? Please reply. Thanx |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by chris81964(m): 4:16pm On Aug 28, 2015 |
dezo:I have not done it yet. The instruction manuals that come with it are very easy to follow. Why do you want to connect three phase? Three phase in the US is 480 V not 220/230. Make sure that is what you are trying to accomplish |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by dezo(m): 8:44am On Aug 29, 2015 |
I have 3 phase air compressors i would like to power.Really didnt realise i would be getting 480v and not 230v. Maybe i would be better off getting the sukam colossal series 3 phase. Thanks |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by chris81964(m): 3:24pm On Aug 29, 2015 |
dezo:Your air compressors have three individual 230 V lines coming in? |

dezo:Your air compressors have three individual 230 V lines coming in? I got a call from someone telling me that all 3 phases in Nigeria are 230 each. My apologies |

dezo: Here is a schematic diagram of how to wire 3 Outback inverter for 3 phase system. Let me know if you have questions

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by dezo(m): 10:37am On Aug 30, 2015 |
@co0gumo will this produce 230vac 3 phase? THANX !!! |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by kiekie1(m): 11:46am On Aug 30, 2015 |
dezo: It will. Look at the diagram properly. Its a clear schematic sketch of 3 outbacks from same high ahms battery bank"preferrably IND TROJAN/ROLLS/HOPPECKE" feeding 220-230vac into your compressors distribution box in 3 splitted faces. They tap from same battery source and individual 3 face AC source. When 1 inverter goes OFF, 1 face goes OFF making 1 unit of your AIR COMPRESSORS OFF ..... Thanks! |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bodejohn(m): 1:35pm On Aug 30, 2015 |
Friends...a word of caution. 3 phase power supply in Nigeria is 380 to 415Vac but in North America it is 230Vac. The equipment to be powered should be carefully examined and the right voltage applied to avert damages. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by c0ogumo(m): 2:10pm On Aug 30, 2015 |
bodejohn: Yes you are correct, the 3 phase inverter system would produce 230Vac per phase and 400Vac from phase to phase. |

kiekie1: I am fine thanks. I come here regularly but I just decided to stay quiet. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by chris81964(m): 10:38pm On Aug 30, 2015 |
bodejohn:Bros in North America the voltage for three phase varies. For light industrial 120/208 and fother industrial applications 277/480. It is up to 600 volts for even larger applications. We very rarely see 230 v. Our central air conditioning and clothes dryers might run 240V. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bodejohn(m): 12:27am On Aug 31, 2015 |
chris81964: Thanks...although I wasn't particular about the 230v target. Usually power is supplied at a plus or minus 10% range. I was actually suppose to caution about the frequency of the supply. While it's 50hz in Nigeria and most European countries it is 60hz in North Africa. About the higher voltages, they are usually applied to very big electrical motors, so their currents can be reduced and also to reduce the size of the motors. As I stated above, you need to check the power requirements of the equipment you need to power but more importantly be careful with the frequency of supply...you can damage your equipment in seconds with the wrong frequency. 1 Like |

Hello my people in the house, i hail all the DIY guys, also professionals sharing your experience and all that, you have really done a very great job here since 2010 till now, Please i need your professional advice here, I learnt about battery desulfator here and i decided to get one for my 2+yrs batteries but this time i decided to get Batteryminder 12248 12v to wake up other dead batteries after i read through people's comments. My questions now is my inverter is 24v system, ' is it possible to connect the batteryminder to the 2 batteries in parallel (12v) and also in series with my inverter (24v) at thesame time to maintain the batteries and inverter charging the batteries? I asked my friends i got a confused response. please i need a practicable advice. Thanks |
