so finally located my watt meter and tested my thermocool 350L double door fridge with a 130w compressor energy name plate, clocked in at 320w on startup and later settled at 195w after about 7mins hmmmmmmm.
would monitor and see if it reduces further after 3 to 4hrs.

@all, between haier thermoccol and LG, which do you think makes a relaible and more efficient freezer?.
was thinking HT, but someone said LG produces more than 40% of all refrigration compressors worldwide, b4 i though LG was more of an electronics tv/radio/dvd kind of company , that they lacked expertise on refrigration

@ house
Many thanks for your "plentiful" suggestions on how to manage solar versus utility supply to single loads earlier. I am back for more expert suggestions and opinions.

See a snapshot of my solar install.....

a) With this, how can I truly ensure a switch from PV to PHCN supply after my timer cuts out on a single load e.g. fridge as below? I would like to retain inverter supply to all loads in the house (I want to have the flexibility to choose to switch say an AC on during peak sunshine hours) so do not want to split my loads to essential and non-essential. At the same time, not sure how to use the contactor/timer to swap since both supplies are on the DB. Abeg, helepu!

b) The more I look at the below, the more I think I'm missing something or doing something wrong. Your comments welcomed please.

Thanks|!

I think this may address your present dilemma. No DB split necessary, but you purchase for each circuit you wanna control.

pranil:

...Just replace the existing MCB no separate DB requited or create a DB with Rows of MCB saving space and money.

@Barezzi...

Thanks. Maybe I'm missing something.... or dull!

If I use this contactor plus timer, how do I get the contactor/timer to select between Inverter supply and PHCN, seeing as both are fed into the same DB?

No vex o... just help me break it down small small.

Thanks!

Contrary to the popular practice of using a changover cwitch between inverter and NEPA the actual use of Inverter is different than a generator.

The NEPA goes to inverter and then flows out to your loads ( The inverter senses availability of NEPA and automatically connects loads to NEPA)

In your case you have to split the DB wiring to possible inverter loads and non inevrter loads ( ask the electrictian if you cannot do it should be fsairly easy to modify the busbar or remove the looping)

So in your case all house loads upto PEAK loading of inverter ( normally double the rating of nominal check also the bypass relay rating of inverter ) can be connected to inverter . The MCB contactor coil will be fed from NEPA with a timer . The moment NEPA fails the contractors drop keeping only essential loads like light and DSTV /TC /Computer to the output of ineverter . ( identical to a large UPS for your computer) now based on your judgement you can manually bring some loads on or off based on your needs. The beauty of the contactor I suggested is it self resets the position on every changeover of NEPA no no risk of loading inverter on the next failure even if you had kept it on

For example if you leave the Air Con MCB in ON ( manual)positiontion and forget to Put it to Auto next time NEPA fails it will still switch off It has automatic returning to AUTO position on every coil energization See marked in the Blue

If you want further automation you can use 4P MCN ( 2 NO and 2 NC) NO for NEPA and NC for inverter automatically changing to inverter based on SOC or time of day

Hello house,
Anyone with experience on Schneider product should help out on this;

Schneider Conext SW4024 Inverter tripping on F49 fault (DC Over Voltage), the battery bank is a set of eight nos of 200AH wired for 24VDC, I have monitored the charging voltage while the inverter is charging not to exceed 26.1VDC and the battery bank voltage sitting pretty at about 24.8VDC, however once the utility power is applied to the inverter after charging for about 2-3 mins will trip on F49 fault.

Has anyone experienced this before? Appreciate all comments

Send an email to ksolaiya@atlanticwastepower.com tell him Dr Solar sent you. What load are you running on the inverter.

You are right .. I have a client who used same ipower 5kva 48v and complained a lot after working on the FETs on 3 occasions .. He concluded its not really a pure sinewave power inverter since he keeps having issue's using submersible water pump, aircon unit, microwave etc on it .. He also complained the inbuilt solar controller wasn't as efficient as external mppt unit . He simply upgraded the inverter to a transformer based pure sinewave, 60a mppt, more units of 300w solar modules as he is almost offgrid and needs some appliances running whilst mppt is absorbing-floating ...

I have four of them . Normally 35 watts running on Battery on Avrage can reach upto 65 Watt on full load .
See the datasheet
And these are actual measured values

I have been running these inverters for last 5 years without any major issues and when it comes to price point nothing in market can beat them .

Anybody who has questions on these can feel free to ask them. .

From the datasheet......
For 5kVA:
No load power consumption <50W
Saving mode power consumption <15W

For 1-4kVA:
No load power consumption <25W
Saving Mode power consumption <10W

From various reading on solar groups online, the above seems to be the range they mention they experience.

There is plenty of information just ask whatever you need . A very little known fact is these inverters ( both Ipower and Genex and other not so well known) are made by a single company called Voltronic Power - Sold in South Africa as Axepert and in Europe /Latin America as MPP solar
The company is as big as APC and very well known brand having more than 15 % global market of Hybrid inverters .

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCXTHiurLbc

It has a loyal following in many countries and fan base .

Personally I am using them in parallel 5 KVA x 2 to even run 2 AC's and my washing machine without any major issues .

The failures you see in the market is because of bad installers/Design hence Ipower insists on complete system. There limitation is 60 V DC and nominal failures are in capacitors . This only happens when you use a charge controller than their own which tries to equalise batteries or the ones called battery desulphators. I learned this the hard way - This has been corrected in new models after 2015. Also there are many models looking identical depending on the importer ( they have identical models with PWM/MPPT , ac Charge capcity 50 Amp , 60 AMp or even 80 Amp).
Like all systems you should use your design tools referring to datasheet other components to build a correct system

They even now have a 1 .00 power factor inverter ( 5 KVA inverter does 5 KW load) and max 140 Amp charging ( 80 from Solar and 60 from Grid). All this in 700 USD is not possible in any inverter . The price and size is kept low by moving teh AC and DC protections outside the inverter hence the need to correctly design the system

Hi Pranil,
Curious as to how you sized your fuses between your batteries and inverter.

I thought with 8 nos. of 200Ah, 12V batteries, making a 48V, 400Ah battery bank, that you would need a bigger fuse?

Also, there are several schools of thought on having a fuse on the negative. I notice you have a fuse though halved. May I ask why?

@Barezzi
Max PV Array Open Circuit Voltage for the 5kVA is I think 145V DC.
