VillageWinch: There are many reasons but the main one is that Awo simply COULD NOT. He was not military to command anybody and Northern troops were watching him |

Ovamboland: Very simple. He was head of the party, he was the party, father of the nation, everything. It was pre-agreed he would assume premiership of the East. It went smoothly. Everyone was happy. Awo couldn't do same in AG. Akintola outmaneuvered him and ultimately jailed him 1 Like |

Diiet: Now I think about it, Zik knew Awo didn't want the secession clause for nothing. Zik probably knew his hidden agenda was to start talking secession soon after independence, which was the last thing Zik wanted |

oladeebo: Arrant nonsense!!! NCNC won both western and eastern regional elections. The tribalism in Nigerian politics started in 1951 carpet-crossing by Yari.ba peeps who won the election on the platform of NCNC and later switched to AG so that Yari.ba person should be first premier of western region. Yet NCNC repeated the feat in 1954 general election as NCNC defeated AG in western region. |

WetinConsignMe: Of course. You don't have to be a genius to see that. Awo wasn't keen on one Nigeria, neither was Ahmadu Bello. Zik was born in the North and based in Lagos. |

WetinConsignMe: being alive during an event is not always equivalent to being an eye witness. Achebe witnessed the election of the first premier at the Western region house, but only told us the official propaganda lines of his party NCNC, how reliable is that type of eyewitness? |

Re: Nigeria’s Problems Started With Awo’s Introduction Of Tribal Politics — Unongo by Ovamboland(m): 1:10am On Oct 17, 2017 |
9jaDoc: Zik was father of which nation in 1951 or 53? Who conferred him with that title? A father also justling for political post with his sons? Do you know only 4 years separates Zik and Awo in age? So you feel it's fair to have his premier seat assured in his tribal region no matter what and he went to struggle for premiership in another region. If Awo had lost out where is his own assured premier seat? in the northern region? So Zik knew where he came from and secured assured seat there. Why did he not attempt to take over premiership seat in North where he was born? That's an example of robbing cow dung in the face of the liberal Yoruba and scolding them for reacting. 2 Likes |

9jaDoc: Hope you know innocent Yoruba children and women were killed in that blast yet no one is carrying around hatred or posting pictures of why Yoruba should hate ibo. They have moved on from July 19 1967, ibos should learn to stop living in 1951 |
Re: Nigeria’s Problems Started With Awo’s Introduction Of Tribal Politics — Unongo by 9jaDoc(f): 1:51am On Oct 17, 2017 |
Ovamboland: Sir, you wrere not there, I was no there. Unongo was there and deeply involved. He is a northerner, yet of all northern politicians he picked Zik. Your quarrel is with him. Here is what he said, knowing fully well he was probably talking to an Awoist: nobody questioned the fact as at then that Zik was the leader of Nigeria and then suddenly, having won victory, which would have been a great thing for Nigeria, in a predominantly Yoruba region, because the Yoruba were extremely sophisticated and they were the most developed part of Nigeria, and they voted on the basis of ideological orientation. Zik’s party produced a Zik premiership in Western Nigeria and in the night, Awolowo went round to convince the Yoruba that, ‘you are a tribe. Your tribe is called Yoruba. Zik’s tribe is called Igbo. Do not allow this to happen. Whether you like me or not, it is better to have a Yoruba man to rule over Yorubaland’. Unfortunately, I feel, this was the |

On the night of 9 August, another Biafran plane flew in from the East and dropped bombs on non-military area.‘Warning bombs,’ Ojukwu called them in a lengthy midnight address on Radio Biafra on 10 August 1967. The plane also dropped leaflets in Ikeja and Palmgrove areas “calling on people to overthrow Gowon’s government and the Hausa imperialists.” “The American ambassador noted that the leaflets were similar to the ones being distributed by Biafran soldiers to gain support in the Midwest. On 16 August 1967, another Biafran plane flew in and dropped two bombs on Apapa. The more the bombs exploded, the more Igbos resident in Lagos were put in trouble. |
Re: Nigeria’s Problems Started With Awo’s Introduction Of Tribal Politics — Unongo by 9jaDoc(f): 2:00am On Oct 17, 2017 |
Ovamboland: Obviously Zik was larger than the East. He did not consider himself from the East per se. His eyes were set on Africa. He helped fight for Ghana's independence. It was honor to vacate Eastern premiership for him. Awo on the other hand set off a war on the west in a power struggle with Akintola and wound up in Jail. If it weren't for coups who knows what would have become of him |

Diiet: WetinConsignMe: 2) these were not "Igbo officers". These were young revolutionaries whose aim was to install Awo as PM That coup triggered events that led to the release of Awo 3) How did Aguiyi destroy regionalism? The four regions were still there and were autonomous enough that Ojukwu was able to reject Gowon as head of state, something that would be impossible today |
