Ovamboland:. The premier of the East was also a non-Igbo. He didn't WANT.to.be premier of the West. It was just the best platform from which to fight the British. The East was not. Also that's where he was based. The aim was independence, the British must go. GET THAT INTO YOUR THICK SKULL. The aim was not to be president or premier of anywhere. 1 Like |

9jaDoc: All the people who had money in banks that were in the west and North got that money back because there were records, the 20pounds story is a political gimmick used to paint Yoruba/Awo bad and that my friend is what is unfair.Igbos who had nothing who were in the majority(poor people are always more than the rich especially in African societies) were given a new lease of life with the 20 pounds which was quite big at that time unlike #20 and the rich ones went back to collect their monies..remember that a very few people kept their monies in banks during this period.I think it was a humanitarian gesture by Awo because if left to the North, those poor Igbo's wouldn't have gotten a kobo because they were rebels. The rich and educated ones who kept their monies in the banks surely got back their money and the poor were made rich. 20 pounds were not beans in the olden days o. |

Ovamboland: [i] Oh that Sardunna's interview with the Bbc they call "hate speech" towards the ibo hence the Jan 15th coupists had to snubbed the man's life out. Same speech was made by Akintola around 1964 wherein he was sentising his yoruba people of the domineering and greedy nature of our so called brothers, east of the Niger river. Consequently, Akintola too had to suffer the same fate as the sardunna. Akintola's campaign speech is on youtube and the guy layed bared their greedy propensity. In fact, this was what made Akintola to run off north and form alliance with the NPC thereby losing the monopoly the ibos had in the public service ............[ /i] 1 Like |

GhanaMustGoo: Your lying teeth will not let you realise the motion for independence was not moved by Zik or anybody in his tribal party, it was an AG man from Midwest, Enahoro that moved the motion. That's a direct response to the lie on this thread that Zik was the father of independence. Was he dozing and forgot his independence fight once he got his premier seat? 1 Like |

GhanaMustGoo: Why did he not place Unogo as eastern premier, or one Abubakar or whatever. Many Nigerians fought for independence without been premier, stop spinning stories. Zik didn't want to be premier but sulked and could not get over been denied that seat. What would he have done from Ibadan as premier that he could not do from Enugu, can you list them here? And Yoruba are duty bound to stare in awe as Zik Carried out his Independence manovers known only to his tribal skull? What you guys will never accept you dish out to others. Did Zik offer the premier seat in the east as a trade of if wants the western seat for a greater good? No he wants all for himself alone while you lot expect Awo to stand aside and watch as a looney. 2 Likes |

GhanaMustGoo: Stop your lies Enahoro who moved the motion for independence was not a premier anywhere. I see it was not tribalism to keep an easterner as premier of the East not a westerner or northerner. And it was not tribalism to chase an efik man from the seat for an Ibo man 2 Likes |

9jaDoc: Azikiwe was a chamelion..the pioneer tribalist..read this... Dmitri van den Bersselaar split between Azikiwe and the NYM. Although th is struggle was mainly over personal and local issues, and not about ethnicity, Azikiwe's West African Pilot began to present the NYM both as Yoruba and as the political enemy (see illustration). The Pilot showed similar hostility to the Yoruba cultural organization Egbe Omo Oduduwa immediately upon its formation in 1946, 33 repeatedly portraying the Egbe Omo Oduduwa not so much as a cultural organization, but as a vehicle for the NCNC's political enemies; enemies who happened to be Yoruba. 34 The Daily Service accused Azikiwe and the Pilot of ethnic stereotyping and stimulating ethnic tensions, pointing out that `Before the advent of Dr. Azikiwe on Nigeria's political horizon, there was hardly any trace of anti-Yoruba feeling among the Ibos. The virus of tribal aggression was injected by the learned Doctor.' 35 http://pcwww.liv.ac.uk/~dvdb/CH_7.pdf 1 Like |
