South Africa has NO air defense GBADS system as at today, plan is to start 2015 and complete 2017 approximately. Today you have nothing cheesy

The GBADS system purchase will fail and be suspended because of lack of funds and embargo on new military purchases in South Africa...nation is broke....no money cheesy

1960s SA-2 and SA-3 missiles shot down American modern F-16 jets and F-117 Stealth jet fighters in Yugoslavia war around year 2000 modern days.

Nigeria bought Roland 1985....not 1970s....fool cheesy

Roland is a battle tested missile that s.hot down the best British air force jets in two different wars.

GBADS is in phase 3 of 4.

We have aquired the radar systems
We have aquired tactical MANPADS
We have aquired CRAM capabilities
Phase 4 is the introduction of Uhmkonto mobile launchers

The money has allready been set aside for the project, the project will be completed.

The GBADS system purchase will fail and be suspended because of lack of funds and embargo on new military purchases in South Africa...nation is broke....no money

1. We have a bigger national budget than you
2. We are not broke
3. The SANDF is underfunded as they have not allocated new funds since 2012 as they are awaiting the outcome of the Defense Review. It has been completed, will be in Parliament in September and will be passed by the end of the year.

Roland is a battle tested missile that s.hot down the best British air force jets in two different wars.

Low flying jets, neither of which are as sophisticated as the Gripen.

1960s SA-2 and SA-3 missiles shot down American modern F-16 jets and F-117 Stealth jet fighters in Yugoslavia war around year 2000 modern days.

We have been over this, they shot down the F-117 by using WW2 flak tactics - they knew its trajectory and altitude (because they operated their radar at very low frequencies - and guess what, you cannot target with low frequency), did some triganometry and spammed where the plane was going to be with missiles that were pre-set to detonate at a set altitude.

You could have done the same with a WW2 88 mm Flack gun

Umhkonto missile has never shot down one single Pigeon bird

It has been tested against multiple targets.

Dude, the fact that you speak english, wear western cloths and have access to technology proves that its a white mans world.

Our laws.
Our economic system.
Our medicine
Our everything

All comes from one thing: Whites

Being colored and in a white mans world has not stopped my from acheiving what I want.

But, you being a black man and deluding yourself about silly notions of "white devils" is what is keeping you a narrow minded underclass.

Only fools see for world for what it should be and not what it is.

btw, yes, we are bush warriors, we won our freedom through combat. We won our peace through combat. South Africa is what it is today because after 300 years, whites and blacks got tired of smashing the sh1t out of each other and decided to settle in peace. Are we perfect? No. But we are more free and more equal than your mind can even comprehend. While on the other hand, the british just got bored of nigeria and left and you remain the slaves of your black masters - in true Nigerian style, the powerful sell their brothers to the west

No, your GBADS is actually in phase 0.

South African GBADS air defense system is scheduled to be completed in 2017, you cannot use incomplete equipment.

With the current cash shortage, and indefinite suspension of ALL new equipment/weapon purchases, SANDF will be getting GBADS after year 2020.

Skysheild is just one of many phases of the GBADS programe.

Starstreak and various Radar and Fire-system acquisitions were Phase 2 and 1 respectively.

Are you really just going to lie straight to my face?

And no equipment/weapon purchases have been indefinitely suspended.

The next phase of the GBADS entails the delivery of the ground based Umkhonto missile and RSR 320 missile guidance radar.

All which will be linked,so a commander sitting somewhere with his compact C2 system will be able to have a clear view of the battlefield.

Let's focus more on air defense, you can have your: 1. GBADS 2. Ground based radar 3. Mobile radar 4. Multi-role fighter jets.

If any aircraft strays into the "no flight zone",the air defence chief will have options on whether to intercept with jets or shot down with the GBADS. "At the tips of his fingers".

The GBADS will offer a 24/7 automatic air surveillance and visual ID of suspected systems in the zone, meaning civilian aircraft which strayed can be intercepted and escorted out.

The minister of defence can see exactly what her/his commanders are seeing at the operations Centre and on the soldiers ground via portable systems.

Completion of the GBADS project will give SA a modern air defense capability.

You're referring to the delivery of the Skyshield air defense systems. It is part of the GBADS not the GBADS.

Systems will be delivered throughout the years until completion in 2017. Military contracts are executed in years. The contract includes C2 systems, upgrading the twin barrel MKV guns, delivery of radars, training and other stuff.

Go cry to Beegeagles that Nigeria needs an equivalent system grin grin grin cheesy grin cheesy grin cheesy

Are they changing the Umkhonto's flight and performance characteristics for the mobile launcher system?

For example, an Su-27/Su-30 can fly over our air-defense dome. And with modern percision weapons... that could be a problem...

But then again, unlike Nigeria we will have CRAM, so we can actually effectivly engage any ordinance said fighter drops.

Yet again, the thing i keep saying over and over

We build SYSTEMS where everything is designed to support everything else.
Nigeria buys individual ASSETS that are supposed to work in ISOLATION and somehow be effective

Four Nigerian policemen have appeared in court in the first public hearing over the killing of radical Islamist leader Mohammed Yusuf in 2009.

The Boko Haram leader was captured alive in Maiduguri and paraded in front of video cameras, but his body was later displayed riddled with bullets.

There's a FlatKop that asked who killed Lucky Dube. Could the FlatKop kindly tell us who killed Ken Saro-wiwa?

The wives and children of soldiers at the Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri, have maintained their blockade of the barracks 48 hours after they started.

PREMIUM TIMES had reported on how dozens of women and children have since Saturday forcefully stopped military trucks from transporting their husbands and fathers to Gwoza. The protesters blocked the gates of the barracks that houses the 21 Armoured brigade of the Nigerian army. They demanded quality fighting equipment for the soldiers.

Yes,the ground based Umkhonto will have a longer range and flight ceiling.

With data links the air defence chief,if detected that SU-27/30 will be tracked,if it changes its flights to high altitudes to be engaged by GBADS,the Gripens will intercept it using real time info(via Link-ZA) from the GBADS sensors.

It is a layered air defence system the last tier has a CRAM capability missiles, mortars, artillery will be destroyed mid air. Their POI(point of impact) will be calculated,so if the bomb or missile will hit an area unoccupied by friendly forces it will be ignored.
