I've not seenone of those companies you listed in SA or there products on the shelves of supermarkets.

Unfavourable restrictions in South Africa but we'd rather hit it big!! Enjoy the news:

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2013-06-12/south-africa-fund-eyes-dangote-companies-with-7-billion-in-cash

Its also very narrow minded to say those companies don't need to diversify there income and expand because they can make enough profits at home. Those same companies who don't expand will be swallowed up in a ever increasing global village.

With Nigeria's population ... local, African, and International companies are welcome to provide products and services since we've got the deep pockets and insatiable appetites to sustain any new business offering. We are more concerned about satisfying our huge internal products/services consumption needs while expanding in areas of saturation - banking for example.

Now on the issue of refineries Nigeria has none I heart that Dangote's son is planing to built one. But you know for a country like Nigeria that is a OPEC member it should be strategic for Nigeria to have a 2million litres a day refinerery. Now SA has already 4 refineries and planing to built the largest one in africa in the next 2 years just to keep up with its current demand and to negate the reliance on imported refined petroleum products.

Stop talking nonsense!! You sound so patently desperate to make a silly point. The links below tell a contrary story!

I laugh at you so much my teeth almost fall out.

Your argument is mute my boy!! Every country with a satelite in outer space usually has elaborate media coverage announcing on television the launch of those machines into space. Civilian or spy or not ... you'll never know or be able to tell from earth where the satelite is talkless of what activities it is relaying to its ground station. Your "clandestine point" is so lame!

The Nigeria Police Force can charter, but not the Nigerian Military Forces!! Yet how often does the Nigeria Police get deployed? Stop skirting aimlessly around the point I made. In 4 months SANDF chartered planes to lift slightly over 200 men and gear to CAR to the tune of R100 million? That is economic recklessness by the SANDF. Sadly, SANDF further fails to justify the expenditure by abandoning base and gear to SELEKA fighters. Nigeria knows when and how to work jointly with her partners to achieve our interests and missions. We have not CHARTERED and will not CHARTER to airlift our military men and gear to Mali or anywhere else!! That is why the AirForce has floated the "United Nigeria Airlines." Your link above clearly mentions the new Airline. Nigeria will not CHARTER like the SANDF. Mr. SAEngine ... what next?

Chief, what is so difficult of you to admit the obvious. That is a practice that is done by militaries in Africa. However, we will conclude that you deliberately refuse to admit the obvious.

Say military of South Africa ... and not militaries in Africa or military of Nigeria. No African military will waste R100 million on military airlifts that end up as disasters like in CAR. Please don't try now to make it conviniently an African matter. Don't generalise. Haibooo!!!! Why will South Africa now choose to be categorised with the rest of Africa?

NAF Charters ... you'd say and assume by the that report ... but where did we Charter to? That's why I mentioned the Police Force because they usually are not covered by the military's airlift assets. Yet question is ... how often does Nigeria engage or deploy the Police outside of Nigeria? Please stop your tip-toeing around the issue! We will not CHARTER!

Britain allowed Nigeria to use one of its C130's for troop and equipment movements. The only reason they would do that is if Nigeria requested it. You requested it because you didnt have the capacity to do it alone. That is a fact. Simple as that. You can try and talk around the point all you want, it won't change the truth. You were given help because you couldn't do it alone, end of discussion.

Mutual military assistance is a component of Military bilateral agreements. Did you stop to wonder why President Zuma visited Nigeria in May 2013, and then hurriedly invited President Jonathan over to South Africa for a State visit? Does it ring a bell that it was during the visit that a Nigerian-South African Defence pact was signed? Does that coincidentally just lead to the inauguration of the AU Standby Force all in the same month? SA needs Nigeria's military collaboration like crazy! The CAR lesson is very explicit.

The truth is that we do not CHARTER planes for our airlifts. We uses our planes maximally and where we need to marginally increase deployment rates our allies are welcome to chip in what they can at no cost to Nigeria. SA will do well to learn how Nigeria's military have succeeded in Africa. WE DO NOT CHARTER scandalously like the SANDF that claim to be the alpha and omega in military operations in Africa.

The reason why everything about the CAR debacle is proudly South African?

The companies are mostly services, financial sector, entertainment, manufacturing, oil and gas, and as such would not be seen in south african supermarket shelves. Also some of them are not in south africa, but can be seen all across other african countries from the west - southern africa.

It was meant to be sarcastic on one hand and reality on the other hand. However, it was my personal opinion. As despite the fact that these nigerian companies make huge profits in nigeria, all aforementioned coys. can be seen across the continent.

Nigeria has 4 functioning refineries.

Port-harcourt refinery and petrochemical's plant = government owned
Warri refinery ”
Kaduna refinery ”
Orient refinery= privately owned

The government has also awarded contracts for the establishment of 3 more refineries in lagos state, kogi state and bayelsa state.

The problem is the demand far out weighs the supply of petrol. Nigeria consumes over 2.5 million litres of petrol a day ( or is it yearly, correct me if I'm wrong), as such importation of petroleum products to meet up to the consumption of the large middle class.

Dangote industries have already secured a 4.5 billion dollars loan of 8 billion dollars needed to build, possibly africa's largest refinery.

Like I said, end of discussion. Google the story of Nigerian officials visiting one of your airbases and finding C130's and other cargo planes still grounded, after they were meant to be repaired. Contact your air marshal and tell him he is lying. Not me. Does Nigeria's Naval commander visiting SA this month and saying the two countries need to co-operate mean the so called powerful Nigerian navy was begging us for help? Um...okay then.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE PLACE ORDERS FOR 9 RUSSIAN HELICOPTERS..3 REFURBISHED C130 HERCULES PLANES TO BE DELIVERED FEBRUARY 2013; 130 PERSONNEL IN COUNTERTERRORISM TRAINING

THE NATION NEWSPAPERS
November 30, 2012

The Air Force has ordered for nine helicopters from Russia to strengthen air surveillance, Air Marshal Alexander Badeh has said.

Badeh, who spoke at the NAF Public Relations and Information Workshop in Abuja yesterday, said the Air Force is fixing three C-130 aircraft in its fleet. According to him, the three aircraft would be ready by February and added to the ones on the ground for enhanced
performance.

The Air Chief said the NAF is training over 130 personnel in counter terrorism. Badeh, who emphasised the advantage of air surveillance in the fight against terrorism, added that there are plans by
the Air Force to assume total control of the nation’s borders.

He pleaded with the public to alert security agencies to information that could lead to the arrest of terrorists. Badeh said without information from the citizenry, it would be difficult for security agencies to win the fight.
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Nobody: 9:26pm On Jun 13, 2013
The nigerian airforce originally has 8 C-130's. The CAS said the airforce is currently fixing 3 to be delivered in "February of 2013", to add to the "ones" on the ground.

@SAengine, notice the keywords. This reply is for you.

If 3 are to be delivered in february of 2013, it means we have 3 confirmed C-130's on the ground.

One = 1
Ones = 2 or more

The CAS, said "ones" on the ground. So it is safe to assume that in total the NAF currently has 5 fully functional C-130's in service, of a fleet of 8.

The senators in the link you posted are talking about failed contracts awarded for the repair of 2 C-130's in 2000, by the regime of fmr.president obj. The NAF personnel in the links said those C-130's(subjects) are up for decommissioning.

So nigerian airliift options are as follows,

5 C-130's, *1 still under repairs in the UK
5 G-222, medium transport planes
2 boeing 737-500 personnel transport planes.

what i cannot understand is why an SA, who just came into the continent at the end of their injustice and illegality aka apartheid, should claim they are the mouth piece, the "big bros" (trying to steal people's title), the almighty and the saviour of Africa! They say this like Africa only came into existence when SA got tired of its unfortunate illegality translated apartheid.

You really think your your C130s are enough. If it was not for western air power your mission in serrir leon would have failed same for malili. SA has never needed another country to move the solders and supplys around. We do it our selfs.

ASF has been around for some time. It is nothing new. Has for SA needing nigeria conerning CAR. Nigeria has no rapid deployment force and malil is proof where it tooks months to deploy to a country you can drive to. SA had more than a infantry battlion ready to strike CAR in stanstion in Uganda and DRC along with air support. But the regional force was all ready behind there new french pupet so the green light was never given.
