MikeZA: BH is now capable of briefly capturing land.

Nigerian soldiers are still running when BH attacks.

I don't think this army would be able to deal with a sophisticated enemy that can hit with great precision and heavy weapons.

You should start by telling us the land captured, with visual evidence to back it up.

Yes, because we are so heavily involved in AU deployments.

Also, those positions are political not operational

Your man will be flying a desk

The men on the ground will be commanded by their own SANDF commanders

the ones with the combat experience are rolling on wheelchairs.

No, pic related.

On the other hand, Nigerian soldiers with CONVENTIONAL combat experience do not exist... while your "COIN experience" is limited to being unable to defeat RUF for a decaded (and having to be bailed out by the British and the USMC) and fighting BH WHO HAVE BEEN GETTING STRONGER SINCE YOU LAUNCHED YOUR OFFENCIVE.

Plus, the AU as an organization is lead by a South African... so your General will be saluting a South AFrican in anycase.

Boom, two different arguments used to wreck your one myopic argument grin grin grin

bla bla bla bla bla...... I couldn't even finish reading the post cos all I see is whining. who isn't involved in AU deployments. even sierra Leon is in Somalia.

you further revealed your foolishness by calling such a political appointment. did you read the profile of the person appointed and his responsibilities?

and to add to your foolishness, you dare to compare a rotating political seat to a military position. you are frilly a waste of time.

your loan defence force and country has not paid the ultimate price to be respected militarily and your defence minister who also participated in picking a Nigerian General understands it far better than you. sorry if it hurts you but that's the reality, not all this ramblings of personal opinions on nairaland.

Boko Haram moves unopposed in strategic Nigerian town

A raid on an army base in north-east Nigeria and massacres of civilians in nearby villages have left Boko Haram free to move unopposed in a strategic garrison town, witnesses and security sources said.

Moving into the area could represent Boko Haram's biggest strategic success since a military offensive dislodged it from several cities and towns in Borno state last year.

Damboa lies on a major highway linking the northern and southern districts of Borno, which borders Cameroon, Chad and Niger. Other areas where the rebels roam freely are more remote.

"Boko Haram has actually taken over our communities," said Andrew Tada, a resident of Attagara village, one of those that emptied out after the weekend attack. "Boko Haram has sacked them and nobody dares go back."

He said residents had fled to the mountains during the attack. When they returned militants had gone but the town was deserted. Boko Haram fighters then set up road blocks.

1. We lost 13 men, they lost between 400 and 800
2. Our lost "booty" is a single damaged Ghecko utility vehicle that was abandoned during the initial ambush
3. They requested a cease fire
4. We wanted to invade (we had a whole Bn plus Gripen and Rooivalk in Northern Congo for such purposes), but the relevant regional body would not support us. That doesnt sound like retreat
5. We werent there to defend the Capital in the first place

Should I start posting all the instances where Nigerian soldiers ran away in their own country and allowed BH to slaughter their own civilians?

Bh know they can't attack any major FG fortification and have switched to low threat targets.

Multiple instances of BH attacking hard targets have been posted (i just posted one)

And dont forget BH overran your airforce base and destroyed half your helicopter fleet.

Except that time we spent 26 years kicking the sh1t out of 60 000 Cubans and 120 000 MPLA with only 4000 men? Or that same period of time when we annihilated PLAN so badly they were a non-entity until the last days of the war? Or when we captured most of Angola with only a handfull of men?

We won’t concede any state to Boko Haram –DHQ

Security agencies in the country have vowed that they will not concede any state of the federation to the Boko Haram Islamic sect or any other terrorist organisation.

The Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, made the pledge at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday. The occasion was organised by the National Information Centre, chaired by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Mr. Mike Omeri.

Olukolade said, “We are not conceding any part of this country to any terrorist group. The Nigerian security agencies are active and will reverse every form of insecurity wherever. It won’t be stampeded by what is found on the social media.

“The fact remains that we are not conceding any of the state to terrorists. We are committed to securing Nigeria as mandated by the constitution and no group will be allowed to raise any flag in any part of the country. If you see someone hiding a flag under his bed and you want me to confirm it here; that is not possible.”
