Nigeria army committed atrocities, Amnesty says

Nigeria's army has committed atrocities in the north-east in its fight against Islamist militants belonging to Boko Haram, Amnesty International says.

The campaign group said it had seen "gruesome footage" including alleged members of the military slitting the throats of detainees.

The Nigerian authorities said such barbarity had no place in the military and promised to investigate.

Boko Haram has been waging an insurgency in Nigeria since 2009.

Thousands of people have been killed in a series of bombings and assassinations in the north-east and in the capital, Abuja, this year alone.
'Extrajudicial executions'

Amnesty says footage obtained from multiple sources on a trip to Borno state, in the north, "includes horrific images of detainees having their throats slit one by one and dumped in mass graves".

The perpetrators "appear to be members of the Nigerian military and the "Civilian Joint Task Force" (CJTF), state-sponsored militias," the organisation adds.

"The ghastly images are backed up by the numerous testimonies we have gathered which suggest that extrajudicial executions are, in fact, regularly carried out by the Nigerian military and CJTF," says Amnesty International Secretary General Salil Shetty.

Nigeria has surpassed Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Somalia as the world's deadliest country when it comes to terrorist attack fatalities after recording 3 477 deaths in 146 attacks over the last year, according to British risk consultancy firm Maplecroft.

The consultancy firm logs, analyses and maps every reported incident of terrorism worldwide and included 197 countries in this year's survey.

According to the report entitled "Maplecroft's Terrorism and Security Dashboard (MTSD)", incidents of terror attacks in Nigeria have increased since the government declared a state of emergency and launched a military offensive against the Islamist group Boko Haram in three northern states (Kano, Borno and Adamawa) in June last year.

Nigeria does not have any such system from any manufacturer.

At first I was joking about you only being functionally literate, but now I am starting to think its true.

So let me put it in such a way that someone of your reading level can comprehend "we have something you don't"

South Africa has a $93m police telecoms network according to THIZA's post. Nigeria has a $470m police telecoms network for Abuja alone, not counting Lagos and others. Our manufacturer is ZTE of China under National Public Security Communications Systems Programmes, they have different types of data service programmes done in Nigeria, I just mentioned only one here.

In telecommunication a data link is the means of connecting one location to another for the purpose of transmitting and receiving digital information. It can also refer to a set of electronics assemblies, consisting of a transmitter and a receiver (two pieces of data terminal equipment) and the interconnecting data telecommunication circuit. These are governed by a link protocol enabling digital data to be transferred from a data source to a data sink.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_link

It complies with the definition of one

Hence we do

Hence Nigeria does not

Therefore: my point still stands

Now you begin to make data-link look very simple to justify your police data-link claims, if the above post you made is all there is to data-link, then Nigeria has one of the best data-links in the world, our Navy detects pirates ship far away in Angola, and shared the data with our ships in West Africa to intercept it with online-real time tracking of the ship in Southern African waters near your backyard in your own SADC region of influence, we shared the pirate ship's minute by minute location with Nigerian aircraft and ships till our men arrested the pirates....that is data-link in practical combat action...show us how you use Mandela's famous data-links at international level....

slowpoke.

You post one picture with some cars in it and then use that to substantiate the (infantile) statement "we have more cars than you"

Allow me to show how that is ludicrous:

1. That is not a photo of every car in the Nigerian Police service
2. There is no corresponding photo of every single car in SAPS

Hence, you have used Voodo logic to construct an argument that does not exist. Hence the disdain.

Only say things you can prove. Now, find us sources that list the total number of cars in SAPS and the total number of vehicals in your police service and then we can talk.

Until then, I recommend you stop posting until you hit puberty.

Thiza: The South African Police Service (SAPS) implemented a biometric system in 2001 to secure the Integrated Justice System (IJS).Finger- and palm prints of convicted criminals have been captured in their Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) this database is used for Identity Management (IDM) and is used to monitor criminals as well as to track down wanted criminals. Portable readers (powered by Sagem's MorphoTouch and RapID technology) are used at roadblocks around the country to identify wanted criminals and bring them to justice.

This service has a significantly faster turnaround time (48 hours as opposed to weeks) than the traditional system for checking criminal records.

@AUGUSTUS WE ARE DECADES AWAY FROM YOUR MILITIA POLICE FORCE....SEE OUR HQ OF THE POLICE....SOUTH AFRICA HAS 1110 POLICE STATIONS...DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY IN NIGERIA

Nigeria is already expanding Biometric systems to cover the whole nation, every Nigerian will be on biometric data-base and linked to his commercial bank database. How do you think our police handle criminals on biometric database if we don't have the technology in our police?

We have allready shown that our police have an entire system that yours do not - that was the argument.

Furthermore,

We have allready shown that LinkZA is:

1. Superior
2. Fully integrated to the most basic level of the SANDF
3. Proven to be in existence (citations provided that clearly outline its implementation and capabilities).

You have yet to prove that Nigeria has acomplished points 1, 2 or 3.

Furthermore:

Stop making up stories and provide citations to substantiate your claims. You have allready changed your story - first you said that your warships radar could detect it at that distance... now, when we are having a data-link debate, suddenly it was Nigerias data link that detected it at that distance?

Finally, provide a citation to prove what you are saying is true.

1. You cannot compare the wars in Gaza strip and the war in Northern Nigeria
2. There is a big difference between collateral damage during a bombing campaign in one of the most densely populated parts of the world and slitting peoples throats and dropping them in mass graves
