Anambra Assembly passes 2018 budget, tasks Obiano on 90 per cent implementation

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed the 2018 appropriation bill into law.
The bill is N170.9billion as against N166.9 bn presented to it by the State Governor, Willie Obiano in December.
The Chairman finance and Appropriation Committee of the House, Mr Obinna Emenaka said the increase in the allocation was to accommodate development of more infrastructure in the state.
He said his committee arrived at the new figure following painstaking sessions during budget defence by ministries and departments of the government.
He said “Our governor has sustained regular payment of salaries and on time. This apparent interest by the governor in paying his workers is happily reflected in this year’s budget alongside the other numerous projects.”
Speaking, the Speaker of the House, Mrs Rita Maduagwu commended the members and staff of the legislature for what she called their “wonderful contributions towards the passage of the bill”.
She said, “Actually, we have fulfilled our promise to His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano and the people of Anambra State, that we would give the bill accelerated consideration.
“I commend various committees with special thanks to the Finance and Appropriation Committee under the leadership of Hon Obinna Emenaka for thorough budget defence exercise.
“This prompt passage of the 2018 Appropriation bill is in line with our resolve to continue to enact laws aimed at improving the living standard of our people as well as the growth and development of the state.
“The content of this year’s budget is rich and development driven, purposely designed for the good governance of the state
Maduagwu said the 2017 budget recorded above 80 percent implementation,” adding” we expect over 90 percent implementation this year”.
She said the Assembly would take seriously the issue of oversight responsibility to ensure effective implementation of the budget.

More Citizens Heed Gov Obiano On Aku Luo Uno

Governor Willie Obiano's Security Breakthrough and his subsequent Think Home,Think Investment Call, has yet yielded another result with the recent commissioning of an ultramodern hospital and fertility centre in Awka.
Commissioning the Life International Hospital, Awka, State Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke pledged that the present administration will continue to create an enabling environment for more businesses to emerge and thrive.
Deputy Governor Okeke who commended the initiator of the project, said he was impressed at the touch of class and excellence, evident in the facility.
According to the Deputy Governor, it is the major role of government to provide a conducive atmosphere for its citizens, which is what it has been doing since inception, saying that as a result, many private businesses have emerged.
He stressed that present administration understands the strategic importance public private partnership as a catalyst for advanced development, calling on more people to heed the Aku Luo Uno call of the Governor by bringing a part of their businesses, as the next four years in the life span of Governor Obiano's administration will witness unprecedented ingenuity in all sectors of the State economy.
Dr Okeke who said that about seventy five percent of the healing process is attributed to the human relation in the hospital, urged the staff of the establishment to be dedicated to their duty by being courteous among other good human virtues, and tasked the citizenry on playing their individual roles in the process of development of the State.
Dedicating the edifice unto God, the Presiding Bishop of Grace of God Mission, Dr. Paul Nwachukwu stressed that the project was brough to fruition by God through man's instrumentality, saying that just like the name of the hospital implies, when one is giving life, one is doing the work of God.
Bishop Nwachukwu added that such project is the beginning of good things in the State.
In a comment, the traditional ruler of Umunya, who is the Chairman of Oyi Traditional Ruler's Council, Igwe Kris Onyekwuluje said that Governor Obiano's solid foundation of security has attracted many developments into the State, calling on more people to come back home and invest, as return for their investments is guaranteed in the State.
The Convener and CEO of the Hospital, Dr Joe Ikechebelu promised service delivery to patients in the hospital, even as he said that the Governor's posture on development informed his investing in health care.
The Health Commissioner, Dr Joe Akabuike, among others attended the event.

One hopes landscaping is done to the letter. I hope Golden Tulip understand that landscaping is just as important as furning the rooms up the international standard.
Without great landscaping with lots and lots of palm trees, flowers, grassing etc, this will look like an ordinary 2 star hotel.

*Anambra Govt To Construct Golf Course At Golden Tulip Hotels Agulu*
The State Government says it has plans to construct a 9-hole Golf course at Golden Tulip Hotels, Agulu.

Governor Willie Obiano disclosed this recently when he inaugurated a 9-member Board of Directors for the Hotel at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia.
According to Governor Obiano, the State Government targets to partner a private investor in the Golf course project which will situate at back of the hotel by the Agulu Lake alongside a play center.
He said government is also planning to take full advantage of the lake to create an attraction that will bring tourists from within and outside the country to the state, adding that the project holds great prospects for increased IGR for the state.
The Governor revealed that the ninety room capacity Hotel which was started and done ten percent by his predecessor, is presently at ninety-nine percent completion as his government has fully paid for the completion of the interior decoration.
Governor Obiano expressed optimism that with the inauguration of the Board whose members he noted were carefully selected, the hotel will in less than six months from now take-off, and start turning in profits.
One of the Board Members, Chief Patrick Chidolue, an expert in the hospitality business, said the present administration has through its strategic partnership with the Private Sector across various spheres, shown genuine commitment towards turning around the fortunes of the State.
He said this is because government cannot effectively manage businesses, adding that the Golf course project if realized will promote the status of the hotel as well as project it to limelight. http://www.anambratimesng.com/2018/02/anambra-govt-to-construct-golf-course.html

I hope they have security in these farms.
The rate some people have launched war against farmers burning their farms at night or sending cows to destroy the crops should make everyone alert on the need to protect these farms from some people.
