That's what we be praying for me, I scared we need more access roads across the state within 9-10 years Anambra will be fully cosmopolitan state, the rate our people are electing building is very scary, I was happy when I went to Obosi 4days ago I noticed IDC was constructing street roads, I will post the pics later

You hit the nail in the head.

What we NEED is building wide dual carriage roads and large roundabouts (preferably flyovers) at large road junctions.
If the civil war didn't happen, these areas we saw as "bush" when we were born would have been fully developed before our birth.

Now we know the houses ain't even enough to accommodate all Anambra people if everyone decided to return, so we MUST build more. I subscribe to building well planned estates that are well spaced out. The problem with Onitsha was that roads to the main market and other choke point are so narrow because people that planned the city never had any foresight for the future.

The problem of Anambra is over concentration of development along two roads. Onitsha - Awka and Onitsha - Owerri expressways. This gives the state a choked appearance while ample land exists just one kilometer away from the roads. It is the duty of the state government to provide more wide access roads to break the notion of everything being cited along the two thoroughfares. I hope the Anambra aerial mapping will be utilized in advising people how to build and approval of houses. The emphasis should be on building good access dual carriage ways between key towns. The road from Awka to Aguleri and from Onitsha to Aguleri should the dualized. This will open up vast areas for development of Awka and Onitsha can comfortably expand on its northwards fringe.

I hope those trusted with the responsibility of development of Anambra state make use of modern planning maps such as google earth to show them the best locations for new roads and new estates to decongest the city centers. You will be shocked a few town planners have never heard of google earth maps. Yet they are "town planners" who are trusted with planning "towns"

Anambra has severe infrastructural deficit. For years private individuals have always led the way in development. The government with very small budget is severely overwhelmed with the rate of development.

Obiano needs to urgently privatize critical infrastructural projects on PPP basis. Things will only get worse if the rate of individual development continues.

Please government should do something about ontisha. Street trader have taken over the roads again after clearing them from there, thereby making the roads clumsy, narrow for cars and dirty. The last time I drove pass on my way to Owerri, I didn't like what I saw. Onitsha is not only a prime city in the East, it is also the gateway to the East, hence, the impression Onitsha gives at first sight matters as to how new visitors view the East.....I love to see a Cleaner, more coordinated and organized Onitsha. #Peace

I experienced worse thing passing through Owerri on my way to Onitsha. We want to see a coordinated Owerri devoid of filth, clumsiness, bad roads etc. because it is the gateway to the SE when you are coming from SS region.

Onitsha is the best planned city east of the Niger and flagship gateway to the SE.

Onitsha represent to the SE what Lagos and PH represent to the SW and SS.

Onitsha is today the home of over 2million of your people from Imo state. # Peace

Yyeske:
Nna the hot money flowing into Anambra especially in real estate should be controlled, don't want a situation where say in 20 years time, the whole state will become a city like Lagos. The state government should have and plan for forest reserves.
I was on my way to Azia weeks ago for a function and couldn't believe a large junk of Oba is now what it is now. 4,5,6 storey buildings everywhere

Part of the Nigerian mentality is looking at Lagos as a standard and trying to repeat the same mistakes of unplanned growth which forced the capital to move to Abuja.

We should ALWAYS think of the BEST PRACTICES GLOBALLY AS THE STANDARD.

PLANNING IS EVERYTHING!

Many cities in the world are much bigger than Lagos, yet they are well planned and liveable. If the way estates are moved and well spaced in the surburbs of Abuja continue, even in 50 years time, it will not become a congested nightmare. Because it is decentralized and people can live in different zones comfortably. That is the best practice that should be adopted and not putting more and more things on Oguta road or Awka road in Onitsha or Zik avenue in Awka. Instead we should build MORE Zik avenues in virgin territories on Awka so that new developments can go there. The same way we should develop the Nkisi road all the way to Aguleri as a dual carriage way as Obiano severally promised during his second term campaign.

The idea of confining every development within the old city boundary from generation to generation is the hallmark of failure of Nigerian cities and should be desperately avoided in Anambra. If the map below is laid over Anambra, it will cover from Onitsha to Awka in an East - West Direction and from Aguleri to Ihiala in a North- South direction. If you think about it, Anambra mega city project could adopt a plan like this and not that talking about Lagos all the time. The key to this plan is Roads, Roads and more wider roads. The culture of building dual carriage ways should be inculcated. Even if what can be afforded immediately is a single carriage way, just make enough space on one side of the road so that in the future, the other lane can be constructed without demolishing anything. That is how America function. They first build a single carriage lane BUT LEAVING SPACE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR FUTURE EXPANSION OF THE ROAD INTO MULTI-CARRIAGE WAYS.

In the aerial map below, many small town were enveloped into a mega city with well connected railway tracts and dual carriageways. This is the best practice globally that should be the plan and not replicating past mistakes of Lagos because some people who have not been outside Nigeria are yet to realize that indeed Lagos is a slum city of unimaginable dimension. This is not an insult to Lagos, but merely a statement of fact. The fact that Nigerian cities base their model of development on Lagos is what makes Port Harcourt, Kano and other cities in Nigeria look the way they look. You only need to leave Nigeria and come back after 6 months to see Lagos with a trained eye.
