Fuel Scarcity: FG's Subsidy On Fuel Hits N29.68bn In 14 Days by BeeBeeOoh(m): 9:23am On Dec 26, 2017
The fuel crisis rocking the country has helped to push subsidy being paid by the Federal Government on the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol to an all-time high of N2.1164 billion daily, checks by New Telegraph have revealed. A document of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari, a copy of which was sighted by this newspaper yesterday, hinted further that this new subsidy mark has been incurred “in the last 14 days,” amounting to N29.68 billion subsidy.

While the crisis has surged daily truck out of petrol to 52 million litres from an average of 40 million litres daily average consumption, according to the document, about N40.70 extra cost is incurred on each litre to ensure that they are sold at N145 per litre modulated price.

“The national truck out capacity had, in the last two weeks, been jerked up to an average of 1,500 trucks, translating to 52 million litres per day, which is much higher than the normal consumption of 850 trucks per day across the various depots in the country,” the document showed.

Though the NNPC insisted that this new cost would not lead to hike in pump price of fuel, it confirmed the surge in daily truck out and extra cost through the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, saying that it now cost N171.40 per litre to import petrol into the country. Using the approved template of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), the total landing cost amounts to N185.70 with the addition of the N14.30 per litre distribution margin approved in the last pricing template for petrol by the PPPRA.

This implies that the government is subsidising petrol consumption by as much as N40.70 per litre and N2.1164 billion on 52 million litres truck out daily in the last 14 days. On the volume of products available for supply, the NNPC GMD informed that 13 vessels laden with over 650 million litres of products were currently discharging their contents at the sea port while additional vessels have been lined up to berth in early January 2018. He said 814 million litres of petrol were currently being injected into the system to guarantee nationwide elimination of fuel queues before the end of the year.

He also talked about the cost of importing petrol into the country and the seeming pressure by marketers on the government to hike the price, in accordance with market forces. Baru explained that as of Friday last week, the landing cost for a litre of petrol was N171.40, but the Federal Government has no plan of increasing the cost at the pumps. In this regard, Baru said: “The landing cost comprising CIF (cost, insurance and freight) of petrol as of last Friday was in the neighbourhood of $620 per metric tonne, so with the official exchange rate of N305 to the dollar, the landing cost should be N171.40 per litre.” In the mid-2015, the Nigerian Extractive Transparency Initiative (NEITI) released its audit report indicating that the Federal Government spent about N4.5 trillion between 2006 and 2012, a period of seven years, as subsidy on petroleum products imported into the country. With the N2 billion subsidy being paid daily in the last two weeks, the government is paying higher than it was previously paid.

Pls we didn't vote in that mor0n and his party for them to influence gbagbati news outlets to give us all these tripe. We know how this works, they used it very well to win elections, they used it to hike the cost of fuel from 87 to 143 now they at it already, preparing for another hike.
Its just unfortunate that Nigerians are the most gullible zombies I have come across. Despite being impoverished by slave masters, we would still shine teeth and take selfies with same slave master who comes to check you out on a queue under the scorching sun.
Some countries would have pelted such leaders with rotten eggs and rotten tomatoes. No time for rada rada
Whoever did this to us?

I still don't under this subsidy of a thing

Its the amount of money government pays to keep a price less and more affordable for its citizens... example, fuel is suppose to be at 185.7 as speculated above but you buy at 145 per little
Meaning goverment pays 40 naira already as subsidy

Meanwhile, can’t wait till Dangote Refinery kicks up as speculated , then I can imagine what the problem of Nigeria is if these issues persist

I thought BUHARI said he doesn't know what is subsidy - that subsidy is a scam. Why is he involved in the scam again? It is easier to criticize from outside. Nigeria is facing the worst macroeconomic problems in its history. It is so worrisome that ethnic and religious bigotry have beclouded the sense of reasoning of most Nigerians. Tell me why a reasonable person will still support this man who is an epitome of failure. Buhari has not achieved anything pertaining to economic progress since his assumption of office. there is high level of unemployment, high level inflationary pressure, dilapidated infrastructure, unfavourable balance of payment, price instability, high level of poverty, insecurity of lives and property, endemic corruption and other threatening macroeconomic woes. All these economic ills have been experienced in Nigeria, only during Buhari's military junta and his civillian government. Again, Nigeria has experienced austerity measures twice in its history and those two periods were Buhari's regimes. It is quite unfortunate that some wicked individuals are still supporting this man just because they derive pleasure in seeing others suffer.

Buhari is seriously at the cross road now on what to do.

If he finally deregulates the downstream sector, all of hailers will migrate to wailers.

If he continues with this secret subsidies, he will eat his vomit and a lot of people will come for him.

If he increases the pump price, that's the end of his govt because a lot of hailers will migrate to wailers.

In short, I pity Buhari. He caused his problems by over promises and over hyping by his followers, which I was.

This one has yawa. This one is kasala.

Why is Buhari so allergic to good advuse

He was advised to deregulate the price and completely wash the federal governments hand from Fixing the price and subsidising it when oil prices collapses to about $30. The man no hear.
Anyone with some intelligence would not be surprised at the mess on ground now.

Jonathan tried to free the price but was frustrated by the masses who wanted cheap petrol that was costing the FG at least 1trillion to subsidise year. At least he tried to do the right thing.

Buhari, has refused to heed to professional and sound advise thinking his honesty can make 1+1=7 or worse keep the price of petrol at 146 without the need to budget massive funds for needless subsidies.

You know. . . Buhari na Senior Mugu!

When oil price crashed and naira fell against the dollar, marketers told us we had to pay more. Now oil price has appreciated, likewise the dollar-naira rate, yet these Satanic marketers are still asking for more money. The whole subsidy thing is a scam. It starts to look like Obasanjo was the only president who understood the economic dynamic of our petroleum sector. . .
