The most useless form of governance is when an incumbent decides to scrap without seeking out better forms of improving on what is on ground. APC government fill with self-centered brains who do not know what it means to gradually ease out what is not wanted till they get what they want. As far as I am concerned Ambode's name is synonymous to waste. How can a responsible government wait till this moment before finding a solution to waste that has become an epidemic in Lagos.

Any government that is short of its predecessors performance should be ready for a showdown.

Doing which well? Is it the PSP operators whose trucks breakdown as regularly as their irregularity in coming around to evacuate refuse? Just imagine the stench from a dump truck parked outside your compound for two weeks! Sometimes for three weeks to a month or even more, you wouldn't see them. Refuse would pile up and cars would be jostling for space with mounds of refuse. Yet they would be sending bills on a regular. If this is what counts as doing well in your books, then you don't deserve to live in civilized society.

And the solution is to send them away and bring in an outfit that does not have the capacity and effectiveness the people that were sent away had?

The govt should have looked for a way to increase the efficiency of the existing system. An adage says you don't throw away the bath water with the baby.

They should have supported them with this their new initiate and gradually increase the capacity of this CLI.

The inefficiency of the PSPs became noticeable after Ambode came on board and was making a lot of moves to frustrate them.

Before he came, they were regularly coming (at least in my area). When they started delaying and coming once a week. We asked what the issue was, they said they have to go all the way to Epe from the mainland to discharge, that govt has stopped them from discharging at the previously approved places.

Now, for the past 6 weeks, my area has not seen any waste disposal team.

The CLI has not set foot here and with wastes mounting to unimaginable quantities, this has brought back the Abo.kis. And you know these ones will just carry the wastes and dump them anywhere they like.

Thank you. Too much money in waste but one person just wants to corner it all. Greed over competence.

shams040:
Lagos state govt are selfish and wicked.

We all know we have some private solid waste evacuators before now and they are doing pretty well. Now ambode av sent them off the metropolis to the Peri urban area and replace them with vision scope that has less than 30 trucks.

If Lagos want to be better we need a competitive economy not monopoly.

Should the government allow them continue dumping refuse at olusosun in ojota and that igando dumpsite besides the general hospital?

Those places are filled and overflowing already and constituting a nuisance, development has gotten to those places.

That igando dumpsite is an eyesore.

Government may not be 100percent right on this but those places need to be stopped. It may cost more for them but what should government do than provide a better alternative.

If something is not working, you'll have to seek alternatives. I mean, PSP's productivity and efficiency had gone waaayyyy south. The visonscape you guys are vilifying have not been on board for up to a year - up to six months even. If Visonscape fails to scale over the next few months then the state government can either revert to PSP or look for another alternative. Wasn't this the same way people complained about BRTs all through initial deployment and then the transition to Primero handling the BRT corridors. Now Primero has scaled to cover more of the demand and the complaints have died down. Why not you guys wait and see how Visonscape performs.over the next few months before complaining.

Guy, if Visionscape is allowed to continue with its operations in Lagos for another 6 months, Lagos will become a cesspit. shocked Yes, the PSPs were not perfect, but at least they managed to get the job done, to a certain degree. Ambode and his men should have fine-tuned the activities of the PSP operators, to improve their efficiency and efficacy. By bringing Visionscape on board, he has taken the whole waste disposal process 7 steps backwards, in a totally retrogressive move! angry

When something is not working, you do not choose a solution that will worsen the problem!

All solutions have teething problems so you can't expect Visionscape to get it right off the bat. Give it a bit of time.

Visionscape has NO excuse for getting it wrong, from day 1! angry If they were a serious company, they would have studied the problems that the former PSPs had, and should have put in place measures to resolve those problems, by now. They should have hit the ground running! And people like you want Lagosians to give Visionscape time? Time to do what? Turn Lagos into a cesspit of filth? shocked
