Nigeria To Buy More Presidential Jets by azorjiu(m): 6:55pm On Aug 11, 2010 |
Now I think this is crazy. Can someone please advice these people to get their priorities right? I have been watching the present government with great concern. Good steps are being taken in some areas, but on the average, a lot of things are going wrong. Extremely wrong! Can someone in the house please advice Goodluck Jonathan? http://af.reuters.com/article/nigeriaNews/idAFLDE67A1TV20100811 UPDATE 1-Nigeria buys presidential jets, borrows to fund polls, truncated. |

$150 million for three corporate jets sounds like a ton of cash, yet every 24 hours Nigeria earns that much money from oil exports, which ship at the rate of two million barrels daily. President Goodluck Jonathan is ENTITLED to a fleet of jets, if that is what it will take to tip Nigeria's next presidential election outcome in his favor. For the singular feat of providing electrical power to much of a Nigerian nation hitherto industrially paralyzed by a decades-long blackout, illuminating the land with greater regularity and duration than ANY other head of state in recent history, incumbent President Jonathan Goodluck has PROVEN himself to be the Man Who Could Save Nigeria, and he thus stands head and shoulders above the rogues gallery of treasury looters currently hoping to get their hands in the national piggy bank via upcoming presidential elections. Congratulations are due on a very wise choice of the Gulfstream G550 jet to round off the fleet. Investors in the new Nigeria that will soon be crafted by Jonathan Goodluck will need to travel quickly around the country, on very short notice and in the style to which they are accustomed, so this hangar full of fine corporate birds is more a necessity than a luxury. For a religious cult leader, the purchase of a luxury jet is an obscene extravagance financed by mass deception, yet the same acquisition by a president is a prudent investment and aerial platform for diplomatic relations. Before gaining access to these new jets, however, Jonathan Goodluck should be made to sign a written undertaking that he will never again entertain groupies aboard any of the the various Nigerian Air Force Ones. Cleared for takeoff, sir.

WOW . . . The president gets a Gulfstream G550 jet, one of the top of the line business planes, while we get a C25 2500hp 6 xl train to ride in because this 1970's model is what we deserve?? ROFLMAO!! |
Re: Nigeria To Buy More Presidential Jets by Jakumo(m): 8:36pm On Aug 11, 2010 |
Trains are for mortals like you and I, KJ. Presidents are high-profile targets and full-time statesmen, who would be sitting ducks in any means of transport less flexible than a fast bird with good intercontinental range. |
Re: Nigeria To Buy More Presidential Jets by Kobojunkie: 8:39pm On Aug 11, 2010 |
Tell that to our senators, and governors here who still take the train to and fro. The probably missed the memo stating that mortals ride OLD crap while they ought to right in the lastest and the greatest. |
Re: Nigeria To Buy More Presidential Jets by Jakumo(m): 8:53pm On Aug 11, 2010 |
Senators do get to ride in presidential or airforce jets on both sides of the pond, but with far less frequency than does the head honcho, who by definition is MORE EQUAL than all other SUBORDINATES, and as such at infinitely greater risk of terror attack, for example. In Nigeria's case, Jonathan Goodluck will cruise the Nigerian skies wooing investors and business partners aboard those jets, any of which are also capable of the range to take El Presidente on European state trips. |
Re: Nigeria To Buy More Presidential Jets by Nobody: 8:56pm On Aug 11, 2010 |
I think the best thing to do is to elect a president first. Or GLJ might be planning on buying a president jet for IBB. Who knows? Budget? What budget? |
Re: Nigeria To Buy More Presidential Jets by Kobojunkie: 9:06pm On Aug 11, 2010 |
Jakumo:In much the same way Yar adua did? I really would like to understand if flying around in a jet is the only way to woo investors and business partners. |

Re: Nigeria To Buy More Presidential Jets by Beaf: 9:38pm On Aug 11, 2010 |
Dis Guy: There is a special section of the airforce that is dedicated to flying only the prime minister and royal family, thats way more than what Nigeria has. The prime minister also flies by chartered jets. This link takes you to the UK section of a wikipedia article on presidential planes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_transports_of_heads_of_state_and_government#United_Kingdom |

Perhaps one of the most controversial air transports for a head of state was that of Zaire leader Mobutu Sese Seko, who leased a supersonic Concorde in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The jet, obtained from Air France, was based at Gbadolite and was not only used for diplomatic missions but also for European shopping trips for the ruler's wealthy family. There was also a Boeing 707 (registration number 9T-MSS) that was used for a while and has been stored in Lisbon since 1996, as well as a Boeing 727 (9Q-RDZ).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_transports_of_heads_of_state_and_government#Zaire Henh! Re: Nigeria To Buy More Presidential Jets by DisGuy: 10:47pm On Aug 11, 2010 |
GAR3TH: they use air force jets for internal flights probably Beaf: way more than wetin? The plans received opposition from many groups; the Conservative Party condemned diverting public funds to the project from core services like health, and the Liberal Democrats and pressure groups including Transport 2000 and Friends of the Earth condemned the environmental impact of personal jet travel.[27] The UK is the only G8 country without dedicated ministerial aircraft; Peter Gershon's report also argued that chartered planes involve security risks. Tony Blair's 2006 trip to South Africa was highlighted as an example of the problems of relying on such aircraft.[28] Dem no trust their paddy Arik? |
