sorry guys for my typo or "murder of English" was rushing for my "per hour" if u understand wat i mean. Anyway the point being: why on earth would OBJ beg another man to have access into a gathering? begging, possibly in front of other card(IV) carrying distinguished guests.  he did it becos he is Yoruba, Yrbs don't find it demeaning to beg. Even a Hausa man, we wud say Aboki, mallam, still wud nt beg his fellow man for such worldly lilliputian and triviality.
apparently it works for them in naija (they beg and get promotions , they beg to get access to every damn interview questions, shell, chevron etc, they even beg to marry)   but outside naija ? guys mehn,

you full of sh.it son

Why are people taking this thrash north-based newspaper called Leadership so serious or is it because it decided to use obj for this junk reporting. It is apparently in love with the word 'beg'. It even reported that the security chief begged his surbordinates. Can that happen in security service setting? the report said earlier that the security men told him that his tenure as un envoy had expired yet later it reported that it was the security chief that identified obj to them? What a contradiction. By the way, what was the unidentified reporter doing at the un gate for the whole of 15 or so minutes without being accosted by the security men or were all of them engaged in the fabled obj blocking?

Looks like the most reasonable post here so far!

Some folks lack the presence of mind to decipher where a reporter is coming from and their intention. Only a gullible mind will believe that an unidentified reporter will be close to 50meters and of listening distance from the main UN building gate.

So UN felt they can just use OBJ and dump him like that, my dear i support OBJ finally he entered that house. What a nonsense,if it was George Bush would they have ask him to hang outside? Me i don't care wether his name was on the list or not, id card or not, invited or not invited i don't care he has worked for them and they know him. Tomorrw UN will come and look for him again for one help or the other so far as Africa is concern. What nonsense are we accepting Ngeria to be,i support OBJ for entering there finally. I am not tribalistic.

Re: Obasanjo Barred From Un Building by Nobody: 2:26pm On Sep 25, 2010
The conclusion of the story is that he was finally let in, so whether beg or no beg, he still entered the UN building (which was his mission). the end justifies the means i say!

I think OBJ's senile, if he were in America or the UK he would be confined to a home. part of some of the inexplicable senile tendency is to think what you are not. OBJ probably thought he was still the President of Nigeria.

Why Obasanjo Was Barred From UN Building’ Sunday, 26 September 2010 03:26 Abiodun Oluwarotimi, New York
Spokesman of the United Nations secretary-general Mr. Martin Nesirky has explained why former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo was prevented from entering the premises of the world body.

LEADERSHIP had exclusively reported on Friday that security operatives attached to the United Nations denied the former UN special envoy to DR Congo entrance into the 65th UN General Assembly last Tuesday.

In a press briefing with United Nations correspondents on Friday, Mr. Ban Ki-moon's spokesman confirmed that he had heard of the incident which took place on Tuesday in front of the United Nations Building, explaining that Obasanjo and his aides, on that day, came to Gate 40, the gate at 46th Street and 1st Avenue.

He stated that the former army general and his aides did not have any United Nations-issued identification cards which could have given them easy access to the world body's headquarters in New York.

Although Nesirky agreed that they had Event Pass for an event in the North Lawn Building, he said that they also needed valid United Nations-issued identification pass to gain access to the UN headquarters.

"You need to have a valid United Nations Ground Pass, as you (UN correspondents) have or some kind of other special access pass," he noted.

The spokesman, who disclosed that Obasanjo and his aides were not welcomed or met by any event organizer, also indicated the important need for them to have been escorted by the event organizer if they had to be allowed into the building without a Ground Pass.

Said Nesirky: "And you also need to be escorted by the event organizer. United Nations security officers carefully review more than 12,000 people with various badges and event passes every day during the United Nations General Assembly period that we are in at the moment. There was no event organiser there to meet them (Obasanjo and his aides).”

He added that, in order to assist Obasanjo, a United Nations security official personally escorted him and his aides to the North Lawn Building and they left the complex about two hours later.

Why would an ex-president of any country beg, in such a demeaning way? Why not just walk away, with his dignity intact?

And what's with all the tribal comments, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa etc, aren't we all Nigerians?

@ubebong,
if one nigeria has failed to yield any meaningful thing in 50 yrs, why can't we try 3 or more nigeria.
obasanjo on bbc hardtalk gave population as reason for our oil money not been used well. if our population is frustrating development, why not divide the country.
why are we decieving ourselves with this one nigeria of a thing when it is obvious that we are not one?
do u know that this thing called nigeria is only existing by name?
how can a country exist without a national airline, no roads, no electricity, no hospitals, no schools and educational system, no security, no electorial system, no leaders, no identity and no future plans to change all these.
i hate to hear this one nigeria of a thing. the laws of the north are different from that of the west and east and somebody is decieving us with one nigeria.
can on in one line tell me how nigeria is one apart from this name - nigeria.

Since no body is above the law, I think it is absolutely right to disallow him entrance to the UN meeting if he didn’t have UN Visitor’s Pass.
