Killing in war(s) is not wrong if it's a just and necessary war. Would you say soldiers who kill terrorists in open field battles are sinful and meritorious of a place in Hell? The same God was pissed at Saul for defying his orders which explicitly stated that Saul should destroy all the Amalekites. The same God kept mum when Elijah slaughtered the prophets of Baal. It's dangerous to gobble everything in the scriptures prima facie. The Bible is a plate of metaphors; don't try eating from it with a literal mouth. |

But God did not say that a person cannot or should not defend him or herself. Based on that logic therefore, a soldier has every right to take another life under the notion that he was defending himself or his country. FEW CASES IN POINT 1) The many wars listed in the bible between the Israelis and the Philistines 2) The battle between David and Goliath 3) The battle of Jericho To name just three. In each case, there were casualties. People died. Then again, you could ask what about the "hangman" or the "executioner" - the guy whose legal job is to kill other people - by law. You could ask, is the executioner a killer or is he not? In reality, yes the "executioner" kills people. So why is he not arrested for killing? Because in real terms, he kills but in a euphemistic sense or legal context, he is not regarded a killer! |
