Asu Ekiye Calls Out Sammie Okposo's Experience Concert Performance

Gospel Singer Asu Ekiye known for his Niger delta song woekelemo, took to his Facebook page to attack gospel artistes who perform other artistes' song during live performances.

He made direct reference to the performance of some of his colleagues at the last Experience concert which held at the Tarawa balewa square without mentioning names.

However, their has been an age long competition between Asu and Sammie Okposo who spent a lot of his allotted time singing popular choruses and hymns.

MY TAKE ON SOME GOSPEL ARTISTE AT THE EXPERIENCE 2019

When you are invited to a global platform like The Experience to minister in music and all you can do is to sing other people's original songs except yours, then I think you are either passing through a fraudulent public appeal syndrom or you lack originality and professionalism
After twenty years of full time music ministry and with at least 4 album projects to your credit , you have problems singing your own songs in big events, then you need counseling.

You should be pitied rather than being celebrated.

Any gospel musician who has been in ministry for more than ten years and rely on popular songs rather than his own songs to appeal to a crowd is a mediocre brand.

However, I must commend the visioners of the Experience . It is a very powerful global showcase of our gospel music culture. I have been there twice and it remains the biggest stage in Africa .

Asu Ekiye and his typicak ly negative energy.

That was unChristianly to put it in such manner

Given that Sammy Okposo rose to stardom on the backside of a fellow musician's song who was never credited, Sammy ought to know how to tred. After all he calls himself an elder

See in developed music industries you cannot perform someone's song with out crediting them nor can you do a performance with out prior notice or permission. But these gospel artists need to evolve you get song yet you go perform another man song.

He has a point. How can you be gospel singer for over 15 years yet can't sing your own songs? Does it mean you know your songs lack appeal?

What original song of Sammy's do you know?

"Wellu-wellu" belongs to DC Envoys (comedian Gordons was a member)

"Oruko Jesu" was a popular praise song written to the tune of Ras Kimono's "Ayagayagayagayo"

All these years, singing mostly other people's songs without giving credit will certainly lead to stuff like this.

Which ever song is sung is not bad as far as God is glorified. It's not a platform for competition to outdo anyone.

Singing to promote self and receive accolades from people only glorifies self not God.

But on a lighter note, I have never heard of this name before

There are choruses that are nobody's song but everybody's song.

Over the years gospel artistes have remixed the age long chorus into their brands but the original song belong to everyone.

If an artiste sings the original song, then that is no problem but if they sing the remixed version, it is not so cool.

But it is not any reason enough to bicker and fight, cos at the end of the day, God is praised and men are edified.

He has a point but his manner of delivery would make anyone feel attacked.

He could have said something like:

“It was an honor to share the stage with all the gospel singers that graced the occasion. Personally, I feel as an industry, we can do a better job to promote creativity and originality. While we are all there to praise the lord, we are also there to showcase our talents to the people of God. We cannot fully blossom if we rob others of their Glory or consistently fail to showcase our incredible creativity.”

Shiiiit like that you know. I have lived long enough to know that the message is just as important as the delivery. If your delivery is respectful, kind and uplifting, most people will not take it as an affront.

Doesn't matter!

In Gospel, it's not just the music but the singer's character and life being showcased.
When Panam Percy Paul wrote songs based on the legend Paul Simon's songs in "Graceland", I was surprised to see he wrote it clearly on the cassette label. Don Moen does the same, and pretty much everybody except these bloody thieves in Nigeria.
