Is there a possibility of revisiting the Bakassi case? All lands are valuable, and that land is a valuable piece of Calabar(Akwacross).
In this day and age where countries like Singapore and the likes are doing all they can to reclaim hectares of land from the ocean and rivers, why should Nigeria so easily forfeit that land to Cameroon? And now that peninsular actually falls under the now secessionist Ambazonia . And in fact,I just discovered there's a Bakassi secessionist movement either from Cameroon or Ambazonia (if successful) . All street and town names on the island are Calabarian names ,plus a few other historical artifacts and events . The judgement surrounding the forfeiture of the land to Cameroon remains sketchy .
Do you think there may be a possibility of ever retrieving Bakassi based on factual and reasonable evidence ? I think it can be retrieved, though It remains to be seen.

Nigeria should aquire more fighter jets, war ships, more than what Cameroon has. Do some military drill in the ocean. After that sponsor revolution in the peninsula. If the Cameron rise crush revolution, Nigeria should oppose the move military wise citing human rights abuse.
Doing this, with USA backings with percentage cut deal in the oil.

Second option is to reopen the case at the world court to reclaim the land, citing irregularities in the initial deal. Still with USA backings

urahara:
During the Scramble for Africa, Queen Victoria signed a Treaty of Protection with the King and Chiefs of Akwa Akpa, known to Europeans as Old Calabar on 10 September 1884. This enabled the British Empire to exercise control over the entire territory around Calabar, including Bakassi. The territory subsequently became de facto part of Nigeria, although the border was never permanently delineated. However, documents released by the Cameroonians, in parity with that of the British and Germans, clearly places Bakassi under Cameroonian Territory as a consequence of colonial era Anglo-German agreements. After Southern Cameroons voted in 1961 to leave Nigeria and became a part of Cameroon, Bakassi remained under Calabar administration in Nigeria until ICJ judgement of 2002.

From Wikipedia
Linking the loss of Bakassi to the Biafra war is a complete hogwash.

Re Bakasi.

If there was a mistake, it was made by the Abacha administration's decison to go to the ICJ when the fact was that our case for retaining Bakassi was poor to begin with (see my previous post upthread).

What we should have done was held onto the Bakassi, while arguing for a second referendum/plebiscite..under UN auspices. (A longshot, with all sorts of possible consequences, but might have worked.)

It would have worked and there would have been no consequences. Nigerias legal representation in this matter was a joke. The population wanted to remain in Nigeria and Nigeria was in control. Is this not currently the case with Gilbralta and the Falkland Islands, both controlled by the UK but claimed by Spain and Argentina respectively. In fact in both cases, the lands in question were closer to the claimants than to the de facto owners.

Well, I don't dig much into history and bother myself on what is past.
If its about the oil richness of the land, we have enough and what do we have to show for it? Not encouraging.

If its about the people or the culture, they can adjust. As long as no ill treatment is given to our brothers and sisters there(this should be our main consign)

I know one thing for sure, even if Nigeria gets the land, our mismanagement is what they will hold the bakassi with, eventually sioling the land with oil, or one cabal sits on it.
Why not leave them and face what we have.
I know there could be some hidden thoughts which made Op brought up the matter
When other things dey to bother on

Op, I like your shift of attention sha(we shouldn't all face the same direction)

Africa is an ethnic continent just like Europe and Asia. Why would anyone conceive the evil idea of purchasing people's ethnic national land, and not only that ,expel the natives ?
Nigeria is a colonial entity. Calabar(Akwacross) Yorubaland,Igboland,Hausaland, etc. are ethnic nations like Sweden,Norway or Japan, not like The US,Canada,Australia,New Zealand,South America. You just can't do that . All ethnicity should be autonomous and have control of their resources.Anything contrary is slavery and neo-colonization. All regions in Africa can be countries/federation with each autonomous ethnic nation as states.

Nigga, there's nothing like AkwaCross

Your concept of Calabar as Akwa Cross baffles me. It paints the perfect picture of a psychopath.
Truth be told, you are not even from Akwa Ibom or Calabar and even if you are, you should be deported because of your inept understanding of your tribe.

Bakassi peninsula was given away as a reward for Cameroon helping to blockage Biafra during the civil war. When Nigerian Government tried to claim it back, Cameroon threatened to expose so many things about Nigeria and the civil war. In addition, they reached out to France for military intervention if Nigeria tried to take it back by force.

Nigeria, having the weaker hand was forced to give it up.

We celebrate genocide and killings so much in Nigeria, little wonder there are always killings here and there. It's not enough to bore God with "Peace and Unity" prayers, we also need to reject evil in our hearts, words, and actions, make reparations, reconcile with one another, before we'll make any meaningful and sustainable progress as a nation.

The greatest betrayal against the good people of Bakkassi came from the federal government under Ex-President Obasanjo who agreed to go to court with Cameroun instead of putting a military fight or resistance to suppress the Camerounians.

The United Nation did not help matter they carry land to Cameroun and carry people to Nigeria.

The United Nation forget that land and people are inseparable.

Yet they experimented with that natural law by digging unsubstantiated historical facts to dispossessed the indigenous people of their land.

Ex-governor Donald Duke the governor of Cross River State failed to advice Obasanjo correctly because he was nursing presidential ambition and he does not want to offend the presidency under Obasanjo.

There are politicians like Florence Ita Giwa nicknamed Mama Bakkassi, including traditional rulers from that region who failed to guide Obasanjo appropriately.

Bakassi Peninsula was sold by General Yakubu Gowon to Cameroon in 1968. Yes, Yakubu Gowon in August 1968, had been requested by Ahmadu Ahidjo, the then President of Cameroon to sell part of Nigeria, especially the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon as the condition for supporting Nigeria to win the civil war against Biafra. Recall that before then, Bakassi was used as the outlet to the Atlantic to bring in food to the Easterners. The then Finance Minister, the very Obafemi Awolowo had asked Gowon: how long do you continue to feed your enemies?

Rattled by the question, Gowon, Murtala Mohammed, Olusegun Obasanjo, Martin Adamu, Theophilus Danjuma, Hassan Katsina with the tacit approval of Sultan Mohammed II and Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano swung into action. Gowon wanting to score a point did not even discuss this with the then Supreme Military Counsel, though they quietly approved of it.

He contacted Alhamadu Ahidjo, and the Meeting was scheduled in Marua Town of Southern Cameroon in August 1968, that day Gowon, using stone, standing on Cameroon side “threw a stone” saying that wherever the stone landed should be given to Cameroun, west ward to the Peninsula. The stone landed at the very point of entry of the Peninsula called Reo Del Ree.

Hence, General Yakubu Gowon, on the advice of Obafemi Awolowo, used a stone to sell Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon. Others is history.
