Look at the EFFIGY OF JUSTICE. She is blind folded, she is heartless, she doesnt recognise family, tribe, personality or race. It metes punishment as the law dictates. This is what a good law and an unbiased leader should represent.
Wike has not fallen short of what is expected of him.

Things like this fly because the mods of nairaland refused to move threads that will Educate the masses on issues like this. What your writing here has no tag to explain why you think Wike is right.

“There is no provision for even the President to take the Law into his hands and then begin to mete out punishments to citizens without recourse to the constitution."

“The right to property, fair hearing and liberty are constitutional rights. No Governor has the power to dismiss these rights under the pretext of enforcing the COVID-19 regulations.

“No Constitution allows a Governor to become the maker of a Law, accuser, witness, enforcer of the Law, the prosecutor and the Judge at the same time. It is primitive,”

By Femi Falana SAN

When you read the words of the SAN, there is no way Wike is right. But, we get even lawyers defending Wike breaking the law, claiming people should Obey laws.

Wike did nothing wrong if you did read the content of the reasons why they were demolished.

I want to believe that 80% of the people chatting here don’t live in PHC because if they do,they will know that PH people are very stubborn, and law breakers you all see that in Tacha. Wike has been sounding this warnings weeks before the lockdown on State TVs and Radio stations that anyone who flaunt the orders will be severely dealt with.
During the government of Amechi he went to powerline junction and sealed the place it wasn’t up to three weeks they came back there again, it was after this he demolished the place.
So the hotels flaunt the orders let them face the consequences..

Does being stubborn give the Governor the right to go around bringing down hotels people toiled to build for years?

One thing I know is that Governor Nyesom Wike who boldly and personally supervised the demolition of those hotels can't say he lacks the power to mobilise the police and soldiers to storm those hotels, seal them and arrest every human being in their premises: owner, manager, workers, pimps, oloshos and clients and shepherd them before a court with appropriate charges slammed against them as well as the hotels as entities.

I maintain that Gov. Wike has NO business demolishing those hotels. His action remains unnecessary, reckless and lawless.

The danger is that if Nigerian State Governors need only an Executive Order to act as judge, prosecutor, jury and penal enforcer and could demolish business buildings at will, then Nigeria is playing with fire because the business premises of many political opponents of state governors will be in crumbles across the country soon.

"For instance, on the issue of kidnapping and armed robbery, the governor of Anambra and other governors decided that anybody who kidnaps or any house where a kidnapped person Is hidden will be demolished. Wrong as it may seem but that is the way they can address the issues confronting them"

In other words, it is not the constitution that decides the rule of law but Governors?

Wike will surely pay for his sins, whether he likes it or not....

How will the hoteliers recover from their lost?

All this grammar doesn't change the fact that some one disobeyed the law and absconded.

Yes, it cannot change the fact, but it is certain that the pot head will have his own taste of condemnation for disobeying the law and abuse of office after "immunity" expires. Hope we'll certainly meet here again to have a round table discussion and join hands in smashing his pot head together. No sentiment!

No matter how one feels about the severity of the punishment, it is still legal because under the enforcement of Executive Order, the Governor has the discretion to it's enforcement outside the court. The only remedy is to challenge the Executive Order in a court on the grounds that it is contrary to the provisions of the Constitution, until then the ignorant will continue to cry unnecessarily.

And whatever comes with it should be what the law says, not whatever the governor thinks.. That is where he has issues, and is what only wisdom can make him do.
It speaks a lot about him. He is not a good leader, is wasteful. Think of the value of the building and ways it could have been even been utilised in a time of lack and scarcity as this.

Even when the law knows you are stubborn and unlawful, it still only gives you a punishment equal to the crime you have committed. That is the difference the rascality we see in our dysfunctional Nigeria and saner societies.

People keep on rattling unnecessary comments here.
Is'nt COVID-19 deadly.?
Is'nt COVID-19 contigous...?
Then why will someone delibrately break an order that can save thousands of lives and resources (economic).
If someone is so thickheaded to break a law, same person will be ready for the consequences that follows.
This wike gave lots of warming that even me in lagos was thinking that ph is a war zone. Anyways, someone must be a scapegoat for others to be educated on the importance of laws/order.
A hotel is like a hotspot, imagine one covid-19 patient walks-in.
Now think about the magnitude of infections and chaos it will cause, this particular hotel can cause a far more complicating issue that the current one the state is handling.
Still same folks out here will say he is incompetent and irresponsible to handle the situation.
Lives and billions of naira are at stake here, and as we all know, nigerians are so keen at abusing rules and regulations even at critical times.

Wike should not be allowed to continue to violate the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

Executive Order relied upon by Governor Wike is an administrative instrument with guidelines and not a Law, adding that the Constitution supersedes the Governor’s order.

We believe that nature is an essential part of the human condition. Whether it’s a front or backyard, a perennial garden, a cutting garden, an atrium, a balcony, a large estate or an urban landscape — the Garden of Eva Landscape Design Group Inc. offers a place for quiet activities, a place that delights all who pass by, a space to learn, an outdoor area for entertaining and recreation, a place to escape from everyday stress, a setting to watch the wonders of nature unfold, a place to revisit memories, or a means of eliminating unwanted sights and sounds. It nurtures the soul and dazzles the eye, and it all begins with your dreams.

Wike sure really knows how to get a message across the entire nation...
Assuming the headlines read something else, some individuals will just hover round it with no busstop.
Right now, i bet all hotel owners in ph are humble and obedient.
Even at the genesis of democracy things like this are done to uptain absolute compliance from the masses.
In light, the hotel cost less compare to the disasters and losses it will cost the state and the nation at large.
