See what awolowo clearly said,"if the Igbo's leave we will leave too". To show you that Yoruba's can't stay in Nigeria without us,no wonder awolowo betrayed us.imagine a Nigeria without the Igbo's..chai I can't wait to leave this cursed nation.

See why Awo said that statement.. Read what led to the statement

LegendHero:

Lol, Banjo commandeering the Biafran forces will definitely kill or instruct his soldiers to kill Yoruba soldiers as he won’t be able to distinguish Yoruba from Hausa on the battlefield. He already swore his allegiance to the Biafran army and he ceased to be a Yoruba on the battle field.

Lol, @the bolded, do you know that the Yorubas have always wanted the capital to be moved away from Lagos ever since the 1950s? Awolowo fought for the capital to be moved to another place and even promised that the Western Region will finance the construction of a new capital.

Do you know who opposed that? Nnamdi Azikwe, he said Lagos is no man’s land and the capital should remain in Lagos because he doesn’t want Yoruba to keep the wealth of Lagos.

Even the Fulanis supported it then until Azikwe confused them that they won’t have access to the Apapa port easily if Lagos capital fall into Yoruba hands.

In all this, Awolowo was frustrated and he had to write a letter to the colonial secretary telling them that the Yorubas will leave the union if capital is not relocated. The colonial secretary not wanting a breakup of the new country that will be birthed threatened Awolowo and told him that it will be met with force of Awolowo ever dare to proceed with making Yoruba leave the union.

Do you know what Azikwe did, he wrote the colonial government and told them that “They have address Awolowo in the only language he understood” I.e. force and he was pleased with the decision.

I swear on God, the Yorubas have always wanted the capital to be moved from Lagos even since, which explained why it wasn’t met with force when Babangida did that later.

The North is not the genesis, the Igbos through Azikwe are the genesis of the initial rot of this nation. The North were never this brutal, you guys taught them everything they come to know presently.

I feel nauseated that you Igbos cry victims even when you are the genesis of your misfortunes.

Frlukas see the reason Awolowo also rejected Igbo secession

If you are going to quote history at least be accurate.

Awolowo said and I paraphrase, "if the Igbos were ALLOWED to leave the union, the Yorubas won't stay". Were the Igbos ALLOWED to leave?

Awolowo cautioned Ojukwu from going to war.

One of the reasons Awolowo could never have dragged his people into war was because the federal capital was located in Yorubaland, in Dodan Barracks, Lagos.

Learn your history.

Besides, it is quite plain that the only ethnic group in Nigeria that needs Nigeria more than others is the Igbo.

That's why you leave your home and are always moving westwards and northwards.

Yeah after they had moved southwards first and debased the indigenes over there. Wasn’t Jaja a slave before taking over 12 of the 18 Bonny trade houses? Then they tried taking over lagos before Awo dealt with them, even now they are still trying lol grin

we don't hate or fear the loudmouth Benjamin adenkunle.
We ended his military career when he tried his larger than life operation oau,the simultaneous capture of owerri aba and umuahia.with his 3rd marine commando division.
Major shande was to capture aba,col etuk was to capture owerri while Navy Capt makanjuola was to capture oguta and make for uli airstrip.

Fast forward to action, shande died in aba,col etuk entered owerri while makanjuola was sinked in oguta before they could disembark.
Ojukwu later gave col ogbugo kalu"your role in the loss of port Harcourt is still fresh in the minds of the people, vanquish the enemy from obinze in 48 hours or tender your resignation.
Then all Oru assembled, you won't understand, don't bother anyway.
Ogbugo kalu, Lambert iheanacho, col Joe achuzie all came together, out of 40000 man 3rd marine men,700 with col etuk escaped as a bad guy he is.
It was the end of the loudmouth Benjamin adenkunle military career, Gowon dismissed him and replaced him with obasanjo.
Murtala military career was ended by col Joe achuzie after abagana disaster.
We knew what we did to the invaders,we ain't playing any victims.
If the Yoruba hate us we understand because the 3rd marine men are mostly Yoruba division, most of them died in ohuba, umuagwo, obinze, owerri.

Because Benjamin adenkunle had the support of the ijaws and the British on the coast,he bragged about capturing the hinterland in two weeks but he ended up ending his military career in two weeks.

The issue here really is not just about Benjamin Adekunle but the Yoruba race whom you called a coward. Whether Adekunle or Obasanjo, the victory of that war is credited to the exploits of the Yoruba. And FYI, Adekunle was dealt with that way, not because he failed, for he really devastated Biafra, but because he was presumptuous, taking orders from himself and blatantly disobeying orders from his Superiors.

The Yorubas are a peace loving race, and other tribes in Nigeria equate that with cowardice. A tribe that created an empire so vast that it stretched as far as Togo couldn't have done it without a lion heart. To know more about the Yoruba, go read about Oyo Empire.

Even the Fulanis, who are laying claim to the whole Nigeria know from history that their invasion was impeded by the Yoruba. At the first invasion, the Fulanis had the upper hand because they had the advantage of fighting on horses while the Yorubas fought on foot. However, the surprised Yoruba learnt from that attack, and in their second attempt, the Fulanis were cut to size by the Ibadan army.

Despite the fact that the Ibadan army was warring on 3 major fronts. Holding Ibadan city against the Ẹgba, defending Modakeke against Ife and holding the Fulanis at bay in Offa and Ikirun, all at the same time, yet the Fulanis could not penetrate.

If the Yorubas had not stopped them at Offa, the Fulanis would have made great inroads into Nigeria. It was the Yoruba who kept the Fulani to the North.

The only reason why they were able to capture Ilorin was because Afonja had long dissociated himself from his own people, so when Ilorin was under attack, Afonja had no support from any of his kinsmen.

The Yoruba nation is a nation of gallant warriors, with a rich history of amazing military achievements. The Yorubas are no cowards.

Any race that can sustain a vast empire for a long period of time can only do so through military might and political genius. The British themselves knew this of the Yorubas. They handed Nigeria over to the Hausas, because they knew that with Yorubas at the helm of affairs, in no distance time, Nigeria will be a nation to reckon with among the nations.

The Yorubas were the fear of the British and not the Igbos. We are peace loving and hate shedding blood but when occasion calls for it, the Yorubas will rise gallantly to the occasion. Yoruba is never a coward and never shall be.

The fulanis were stopped by the benue plateau people of jukuns, tivs, igede, idomas.
It's nothing new stopping fulanis.
It was the Benin empire that rattled the colonial masters, not any ibadan empire.
The Portuguese before the Brits had to co operate and play along with the Benin empire until the Brits felt they have thoroughly understood the Benin and could defeat the Benin.
THE YORUBA ARE TGE THE ONLY AFRICA RACE WHO WERE CONQUERED BY MISSIONARIES.
ITS ONLY IN OGUN STATE,WHERE A PARTICULAR SUBGROUP FOUGHT THE BRITISH, WHEN A PUNITIVE EXPEDITION WAS CARRIED OUT AGAINST THEM,THE REST OF THE YORUBA CALMED DOWN.
why the Brits feared Yoruba is simply because the Yoruba are rabble rousers, they can instigate others.
As for your claiming to be the one who stopped fulanis,it was the British that stopped the fulanis.
You were always fighting among yourselves because of your treacherous nature since time immemorial, even till date, ffk is fighting osibanjo,I can't understand why.
Finally, Britain fought, sponsored and covered the civil war because of oil,not any coward adenkunle whom we send to early military retirement.
A failed soldier who wasted the entire division under his command, his superiors even suspected him of intentionally wasting the 3rd Marine.
The Igbo is tooo big and blessed to be undone by the Yoruba just like the Germans are too blessed to be undone by evil France

No matter how you may try to distort history, history cannot be changed. Of course, you love the lies that have been sold to you, that's why you couldn't find the time to cross-check the facts before spewing out your own ignorance.

If you are talking about the wars of Uthman Dan Fodio, you are correct. Uthman never set his foot on Yoruba soil. He was stopped by the Tivs and their allies, but ignorant people never knew that his descendants made a second take-over attempt.

The Fulanis made several attempts to take over Yoruba land, but they couldn't because they were met with stiff resistance. The final war that broke out just before the close of the 19th century was a very decisive one.

Why couldn't the Fulanis take Offa and Ikirun when they came with all their might and horses to invade those places? I dare say, there had never been any white man intervention in the history of Offa and Ikirun to this day. Additionally, the Fulanis have never been able to go as far as Osogbo, let alone entering Ibadan for war. Why? They were stopped at Offa.

For further clarification, Fulanis didn't take over Ilorin by invasion. After Afonja dissociated himself from his Yoruba brotherhood, he brought in Alimi, a Fulani Islamic scholar who later betrayed him. Afonja gave Alimi land and houses, but in the end, Alimi brought in warriors from the north and attacked Afonja. Afonja fought gallantly all alone until he became weak, his hand still holding his sword while arrows were piercing his body. The gallant warrior died still standing with sword in hand. The Fulani attackers kept shooting arrows before they finally realized they were shooting a "Standing Dead". After killing his benefactor, Alimi installed himself as Emir (an intriguing allegory of what they still want to repeat in this generation by asking for lands).

You claimed the Yorubas are the only African race who were conquered by missionaries. I guess the Igbos were never conquered by the missionaries, the missionaries just came to pack them up like chickens and started colonizing them. If what you meant was that, the Yorubas were the only African race who resisted the British and got conquered before colonization, you may be correct. That means, other African nations offered no resistance. They just quickly succumbed to colonization. Of course, if other Yoruba tribes mellowed after the British conquest in Ogun, that is wisdom. The Yoruba fight with common sense. There is no point going to war with an enemy that has automatic revolvers, when you only have Dane guns. Yorubas are not fools.

To say that the word 'Warrior' is not equatable to the Yoruba is a mark of hypocrisy. No one ever created an empire by simply pouring water on people's heads. The warriors go to war, subdue an army and then annex the defeated territory. The Yorubas in Togo were Regents of the king of Oyo who after many generations, became citizens of that nation.

Let's hear Wikipedia:

"The Oyo Empire was a Yoruba empire of what is today Benin and Western Nigeria (including Southwest zone and the western half of Northcentral zone). The Oyo Empire grew to become the largest Yoruba state. It rose through the outstanding organizational and administrative skills of the Yoruba people, wealth gained from trade and its powerful cavalry. The Oyo Empire was the most politically important state in the entirety of Western Africa from the mid-7th to the late 18th century,[2] holding sway not only over most of the other kingdoms in Yorubaland, but also over nearby African states, notably the Fon Kingdom of Dahomey in the modern Republic of Benin to the west."

We are talking about an empire that existed from mid 1600 - 1896 - approx. 300yrs, according to (Wikipedia, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Oyo_Empire).

Anyway, I do not expect you to embrace the facts of history. You have every reason to deny the truth because of jealousy. You know, there had never been any Igbo empire and never shall be.

Point of Correction: The missionaries, though British, never conquered anyone. They only came to preach and establish schools. They were only a minor section of a larger British race who conquered territories on the orders of the queen of England.
