If it's not a good thing, then why see it as an endearment?
It's like calling your wife byyytch and calling your son bastard.
You are just arguing for the sake of it.

Its not a good thing, which is why i said it was a bad habit. The words bitch & bastard have no positive connotation. A words meaning is primarily dependent on the speakers intention and the listeners interpretation of it.

Take a trip to Lagos, and then rethink your claim

Is this trend widespread in Lagos? Or just prevalent among some teenagers in some areas?

I have never called myself Ni*gga nor any of my friends, Never sag my pant or called a woman Bi*tch.

congratulation for making a sweep generalization because, the last time i went to my hometown my culture

is still lively and prevalent.
Re: Is African Culture Becoming Ghetto Culture? by pleep(m): 7:15am On Jul 27, 2012
^ Relax, generalizations are things that are generally true. Last time i was in Nigeria i saw the negatives of hip-hop culture everywhere, from the weaves to the language to the rap videos on every TV! Just because you don't do something doesn't mean it doesn't exist, can yall stop being babies about this and just accept the obvious?
PhysicsQED:

I knew someone was going to say that. grin

Jambitos.
Always heard them referred to as guy'yoyo or guy-man.

Re: Is African Culture Becoming Ghetto Culture? by pleep(m): 7:48am On Jul 27, 2012
I think i have already explained that, we are arguing in circles. Blyss is an AA who has more experience with such things, maybe he can articulate it better.
Re: Is African Culture Becoming Ghetto Culture? by Nobody: 7:52am On Jul 27, 2012
It's like saying "Musiwa is Nigerian and he as experience with such things". If you don't understand your own thoughts, try not to type them.

LOL @ Nigga = endearment.

When I went to Nigeria I never saw people referring to themselves with the N word, I am sorry but I have heard it once in a while with nigerians in America trying to act black american or Nigerian hip hop singers(not all of them). Lastly if a few in Nigeria are doing that they must be doing it for fashion due to the hip hop music they listen to, the same way it is listened to in Asia and etc, but I never heard a Nigerian in Nigeria call themselves Nigga. Thank God

why are you guys fighting over a word that is used for bad in America, I don't care how you say it the word Nigga or Nigger is bad, and is used any how by black americans, why are you guys fighting over that word, it shouldn't be Nigeria's problem.

American ghettos and African ghettos are no comparison to each other. You wouldnt be able to emulate if you wanted ro.

How does boko feel about the strong culture with his bombings?

Boko Haram is a psycho group, just like 9/11 maniacs, the nuttcase Unabomber of Oklahoma, the crazy dude who killed people randomly in Colorado for the Dark Knight rising premiere. Those people have nothing to do with culture, they are just plain mental

Stop with your ignorance. . . . how's nigger and nigga different? They hold the same connotation, just spelled different.
It's like calling a fat girl Phat.

Bad analogy. Fat means to be obese and sloppy, while phat means someone or something is looking good and on point. A skinny girl can look phat.

You guys are acting so fucking dumb. materialism, over emphasis on flossing and status are all copied from hip hop culture. Every single music video is Nigeria is a half ass copy of american rap. You guys are so blind.

I regret bumping this topic, there was no point. Peace out my niggas.
Re: Is African Culture Becoming Ghetto Culture? by Nobody: 4:50pm On Jul 27, 2012
By the way "culture" extends far beyond just Musicians.....

This fixation on "what rappers do" has no validity because mainstream "rappers" do not represent the inner city slums of america

You don't see 25-35 year old working class black men wearing skinny jeans and sagging their pants

Mainstream Rap is a Fantasy World...More importantly adult minds should not be using Mainstream rap as the "standard" of what defines someones culture....

Would be like me assuming Nigerian culture is embodied and personified by this man...

a 60 year old fool dressing like a teenager.

Oh Wait, lets blame this man and his outfits on Western Culture...Lmfao get real yo.

...Exactly...no response....Primitive Minds.

The Culture is so far beyond Ghetto ALready ,that an adoption of any "other" culture whether real or imaginary(hip hop)

Would be deemed as an actual upgrade...that is how "ghetto" much of the culture over there already is.

It's Backwards as hell already, can't possibly get any more Ghetto.

If you're nigerian ,you need to go back back home to learn more about your rich culture because you sound like a lost soul
If you expect to see your cultural values in some commercial "videos" then you 're wasting your time
you can educate yourself ...but if you 're an akata cheap slave then there 's nothing we can do for you !lol
