Hello

I would like to thank you all members for the valuable information provided.

As the topic has increased to more than 150 pages, it will be almost impossible to read the whole threads.

So to save time, I need to know if anybody can recommend any hospital in Virginia State or Maryland State?

I need to know the hospital charges, recommended doctor , etc.

Thank you.

razaq78: As the topic has increased to more than 150 pages, it will be almost impossible to read the whole threads.

Not to be hard; but trust me, going through 155 pages is beans when you are desperate for info. I went through all the pages (178 pages before the wipe out), took out a pen and paper and jotted all the info I needed. And guess what? I wasn't even pregnant then! And it took about a week.

Please, let us all try to do our homework first before jumping in to ask questions. You will gain much more when you do take your time to go through this thread.

Anyways, the only Hospital in Virginia that has been mentioned on this thread is Virginia Hospital Center, with a fee of $3,000. You can get a Dr from Healthcare for women for $2,300. Check page 88 of this thread for a more detailed info.

As for Maryland try; Shady Groove Adventist Hospital, Rockville at $5,520 for Vaginal and $7,070 for CS. Another option is University of Maryland, Baltimore with $4,238 vaginal and $6,534 for CS. Also check page 87 of this thread for www.mooreobgyn.com at $5,500. There is also Holy Cross Hospital but I don't have an idea of their quotes.

PS; I got to know this cos I took my time to go through this thread. And I jotted all the affordable hospitals in different states. I've zilch interest in Virginia or Maryland.

sayoberry: @kykes since we dey the same shoe. na Ur face I dey look o.
kykes what was the overall cost of birthing for sugar land when you calculated? just birthing.

@nefertitiram... this Ur name self... very long to type grin I agree with you but what of the pains after the cs? moreover Im cs-phobic sad and
I'll be alone and someone will join me after the birth. may not be easy for me. as for work I'm trying as much as possible. I'm planning to travel at 7months too.
I pray God gives me the strength to listen to advice and not go working like a mule

@sayoberry, my birthing cost is 2700+3780+1500=7980 (Dr. Le, hospital, epidural). You just have to budget for cs when having twins and pray u have a vd to reduce costs.
Don't port to El past o. Just come to sugarland.

dserious: Hello to all my MIHS heartbrokens.........kpele nu, its not so bad

Just to confirm wat naijaphoenixmum said abt the new prices...yes, its 5,400 for normal and 6,500 for CS

The Chief Financial counselor confirmed to us that all those with Financial appt from October to December would be honored the old price. Infact I asked her 3times just to confirm. She showed me the list of bookings and said yes, old price applies to all these pple.

So wat i would advise is if you already have an appt, call her to confirm again if your name is on her list; and try to beg her to send u an email confirming you would pay the old price wen u arrive. Be polite, and explain to her that u dont want to come all the way and be faced with a bill u dint plan for. Her name is Francesca Hernandez and her number is 602 344 5011.

All d best

I want to cryyyyy. My appointment is for January. It is not fair ooooo

bloggerina: Sister, why are you considering memorial herman in houston? Are you a rich politician? The hosp facility is new & thus very pricey. Nice ambience, service etc but its not for the masses my dear. Vaginal delivery alone is 7k plus. If you are on a budget kindly respect yasef and consider several other houston options as mentioned on this thread.

Cheers

Lollll. Blogerina. Na waka for hospital carry me tgere o. Thanks for the info.

raii: I called dr Jeanne Hyungh of WhMC and her fees is $2k minus tests and ultra sounds but you have to send your ante natal records before she would consider taking you on as a patient. WHMC hospital fees is $2.5k, epidural is $1.2k. I didnt ask for paediatric costs.

I believe she is the cheapest because I called other docs and the least I got was $2.8k

Peadiatric cost is between 500 - 600

Hello, first I just want to say that this is a wonderful thread, lots of useful info. Its a pity I found out about this thread AFTER I had my baby in the US earlier this year. lol
Anyways, I just want to provide helpful info for the person who asked about another doctor in West Houston Medical Centre. I had my Son there in Feb this year, my doctor was Dr Jeanie Huynh. Fantastic doctor! A friend's sis-in-law had used her before so I went to her and I must say, i'm glad I did. She also did my son's circumcision and it was fantastic. I had emailed the doc's office and also faxed my medical report in advance. They didnt accept payment in advance anyway, had to pay everyth when I got there. So here's what I spent a few months ago:

Dr Huynh's Fee - $2,000
Additional OBtests @ Doc's office - $270 (please do as many of the tests as you can do in Naija)
Circumcision - $255
Hospital Fee - $4,000 (I ended up having a C-Section coz I developed PIH when I arrived in the US)
Epidural - $1,200
Paediatrician - $93 (Dr Huynh's office suggested a paediatrician to me that also gives discount to Dr Huynh's patients so this was quite cheap. Otherwise I would have spent $800 if I had used WHMC's Paed).

. I understand that having a baby in the US can be daunting, esp if you havent done it before so it pays to have people assitst with first-hand info, questions, clarifications etc. Am available to help sha.
I wish everyone a success in this quest and all the blessings of parenthood!!! May our investments in our children's future by having them in the US be fruitful in Jesus Name!

Blogerina few questions abeg:

1. Does the doc give email correspondence
2. What records exactly did you fax. Did you go to the hospital and ask for your file?
3. What tests did you do?

Thanks you.

www.britishairways.com you can book on there site and they do accept Nigerian debit card. your ticket will be issued within 4hrs but you get your confirmation immediately. if they get lot of traffic the price will go up and if they dont it reduces. it should remain like this for the next 24-72 hrs provided lots of people dont query it.

Hello. Which county did you use and what was the total cost? Can we have a breakdown?

Pomona Valley Hospital
Vaginal Delivery: 1,775 (additional $1k for an extra day, usually u stay 2 days so thats $2,775)
CS delivery: $4,800 ( you stay 3 days- complusory)
Doctors fees range from $1,700- $2,000 for V.delievery (and $2,000-$2,500 for CS)
Epidural $500 (and you pay the anesthesiologist $1,200 seperately)
CIRCUMCISION- $250
first doctors visit is $200
Paediatrician's visit after birth is $200
As for the lab tests....that depends on what the doctors ask for....you can spend up to $1,000 on that. Quick tip...always ask to use the in-house lab. Don't be made to use a specialist lab cos those ones cost about 4 times the price they would charge you in-house.

Hello,
Email correspondence is a simple matter. Just send an email to obgynh@yahoo.com introducung yourself and asking if dr huynh can accept you as a patient etc. They'll respond with a breakdown of prices and ask you to send your medical records. Finally they book your appointment on an agreed date. That entire mail chain is your email correspondence. Just print it out.

Fax or scan ur medical records to them. Just scan it to your pc, attach to that your mail chain and send to them. You will need EVERYTHING in your antenatal file. Your hospital in naija shld be able to send you a soft copy and also write you a medical report.

Dr Huynh's office will send you a list of all the tests they want you to do. Full blood count (CBC complete, ultrasound scan, hepatitis b (HBSAG), hiv, gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphillis, rubella, papsmear, urinalysis, blood group. Genotype (Haemoglobin), Glucose Tolerance Test (to rule out gestational diabetes) etc. Most of them are part of your routine antenatal care so you should have done them already. Otherwise, go ahead and do the test here then scan your resylts to them. If you are unable to get some done(as I suspect) tell dem you will do the remaining in america when you come. Dr Huynh is very thorough. She doesn't compromise on all those tests because she needs to accurately diagnose any hidden issues which they tend to overlook in naija. She actually studies ur medical report and somehow manages to fish out any potential complications, if u wanna use her as ur doctor, help yaself and just do as she says. Do as many tests as you can in naija and complete d rest when u get to her office at most. If you go to any mushoom lab/hospital here, she will reject most of your naija test results and make u re-do dem in america which wld eventually cost you more.

Cheers

thanks so much for this, I appreciate smiley

bloggerina: Hello,

U can't take in animal products and that includes maggi chicken, knorr chicken & indomie chicken. you can risk it tho, but if u r searched, those items will be seized. If dey don't search u, den u r lucky. Also, u can't carry seeds eg egusi, ogbono etc, you have to grind dem. So grind your crayfish sef. If u carry beans, make sure therz no single weevil in it otherwise na dustbin straight. No yam tubers (even if u slice them up). Ofcourse palm oil is a no-brainer, na from naija dem go seize dat one sef.
You can generally carry leaves (ugwu, okazi etc) as long as they are nice and dry. Groundnut in plastic bottles is fine too. If u r carrying dryfish, kindly de-bone everyth.

Try not to carry large quantities that make them feel you are planning to sell food in the US and remember to declare your food items in your landing form. Just use style/sense and declare small because if you don't declare and you are searched, the story begins.

Hope this helps. Cheers
