simplesearch:
Could this have been proposed without Tinubu's input and awareness? not likely! The whole idea may just be how to find a quick fix to his already battered image, repulsive public perception and dwindling political fortune and influence ahead of 2023. It could also be a way to spite or get rid of Ambode who is more to them like a bad penny that keeps coming back or a leprous finger that refuse to be severed, since as a former gov. he also share in this their largess. Unfortunately, to get rid of a tree permanently most times requires taking it off by it's root. One or two of this possibility may suffice!
But how does this affect Ambode or Fashola since this is not an ex post facto law.

Earlier Thread; https://www.nairaland.com/6246195/sanwo-olu-seeks-law-cancelling-pension

Former Lagos State governor Bola Tinubu has described the move by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to repeal the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007) as “bold and courageous”, Igbere TV reports.

The law provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former governors and their deputies.

Mr Sanwo-Olu told the State House of Assembly of his intention on Tuesday during his presentation of the proposed N1.155 trillion 2021 budget.

Tweeting on Wednesday, Tinubu expressed his support for the governor’s plan and congratulated him on the budget proposal.

Igbere TV reports that the move if granted will see an end to the payment of pension to former governors of the state including Babatunde Fashola and Tinubu.

You are fooling yourself a. Sanwoolu couldnt have made that bold call without your blessing.

All na Tinubu scheme. Maybe to get back at the spineless baby hippo he pushed away from Lagos House.

It's Tinubu who put the outrageous package in place anyway. The package was much to him back in 2007. But after pocketing Lagos since, it is now peanuts.

It is not far from the truth that this was carefully plotted by mr Asiwaju himself..

But even at that I applaud the move and other states should follow...

Tinubu is a master political strategists, his got all the tricks in the book, the challenge is now open to his contenders

.
There is no ex governor pension law firm in anambra state. Peter obi rejected and spoke against it when he was the governor. He never supported it.

You don't seems to understand politicans, sometimes they wait for a perfect opportunity like this to get even, not minding if they are also affected just to achieve their desire. Ambode could easily pass off as a target in this particular game. Anyway if you read btw d lines of my comment you'll see it's just one of the possibilities.

On a serious note and jokes apart, this law wasn't needed in the first place, it shouldn't have existed and we don't need these unproductive, wasteful and unsustainable laws.

Imagine a situation where workers are not getting paid, pensions are not getting paid, but come rain or sunshine, these mostly crooked, corrupt and incompetent governors still get paid their huge and budget draining pensions no matter what.

I applaud Sanwo Olu for this move and Asiwaju for supporting the repeal of his own error, better late than never.

It's now up to other states to follow and repeal similar laws especially extremely poor states.

It is strange that Obaseki in Edo state just signed and approved huge benefits increase pension payment for former governors including Oshiomole while shouting and fooling people with his anti godfather deceptions.

All in all, this is why I love Lagos state and this is the reason why Lagos is always ahead.

Without Tinubu probably Lagos IGR will still be around ₦600m, without Tinubu, advertisements will still be usual one big billboard for one advert etc, without Tinubu Lagos will just be moving round the circle like other states, why every other state including federal government coming to copy Lagos blue print

They know all this. They just determined not to give honour to who it is due. Secretly they all wish to have a personality like him at the helms of affairs of their various States.

Akwa Ibom Akwa Ibom under the Pension Act, 2014 spends an average of 174.16 on former governors a year and N93.62 million on each former deputy governor per year.

That is besides the estimated N25 million spent every four years in changing the official and utility cars of each former governor and deputy governor. Besides, it is believed that not less than N300 million provided for the building of a mansion in the state or Abuja for former governors. Official and utility cars Akwa Ibom with two former governors, and two former deputy governors who qualify for the pension scheme, the state is expected to spend N2.043 billion over a four year round .

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/12/throwback-how-states-spent-n37-367bn-on-pensions-of-47-ex-govs-deputies/

Mogbe, Akwa Ibom carry the whole cake.

They spend N174. 016 Billion per year on their useless former governors?

This is just too sad...
