The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has debunked news of a purported appointment letter issued to a Mr. Bashir Ahmad, Personal Assistant on New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Rumours were rife yesterday, that the said Mr. Ahmad hustled his way in "as the head of the newly-established National Production Monitoring System (NPMS) of DPR – Nigeria’s preeminent oil and gas sector regulator.

“Bashir got the appointment early January, but his documentation took place last week,” an online medium, PeoplesGazette reported.

Mr. Ahmad, via online microblogging site Twitter, vehemently
denied same.

A friend sent me a link to a concocted story from an online news blog that the President has quietly appointed me as a manager of the DPR, a department of Ministry of Petroleum Resources, for those who want to know the truth, the story is 100% FALSE. I am not a staff of the DPR.

This morning, the said online medium tweeted, with a picture of an appointment letter supposedly issued to Mr. Ahmad.

With a lot of heated comments generated already, the DPR has come out to clear the air;

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) attention has been drawn to a fake letter of appointment circulating on social media purportedly issued to one Bashir Ahmad.

This is the handiwork of some mischief makers hiding behind the veil of social media to spread fake news and mislead the public.

We hereby advise members of the public to disregard the purported letter in its entirety as it is not from DPR .

We wish to reiterate that employment into the Department is carried out in accordance with extant rules guiding such exercises in the Nigerian Public Service in line with due process.

According to the report, the clubs in the hotel Zone attract DJs, comedians, live bands and all manner of entertainers, so much so that even residents in the city, so faraway, could feel the bubbling vibes! According to a commenter, some city residents sometimes sneak into the forest to have a taste of the fun!

Another reporter alleged that the Fulani Herdsmen are currently building schools and hospitals inside the forest...

Anyway, na their business.

Lack of official stamp, not specifying if the salary is per month or otherwise and the obviously hasty or rather unprofessional scripting of the alleged employment letter raise some doubts on its authenticity.

On the flip side, the fact is that whatever job Bashir Ahmad secures NOW as post 2023 assurance cannot hold unless he remains in the good books of whoever emerges as the President or head of NNPC post-2023. Otherwise, he will be simply sacked.

And above all, if it is true that he has two official jobs then that's trouble for him post-2023 because that's a criminal offence.

Bashir Ahmad must be DAFT if this story is true.
