If the reporters asked him the question he responded to in English its very very wrong for him to respond in Hausa but if they asked in Hausa i don't see anything wrong in it.

Its wrong to respond in Hausa to a question asked in english cos the reporter might not be an Hausa speaker hence he won't understand the answer you gave and won't know anything to report.

Goodluck to Nigeria,
Re: Buhari Answers Reporters In HAUSA After Casting Vote! by homerac7: 3:39pm On Apr 16, 2011
The st.upidity of multitude of supposed literate minds dt join d mix of nairaland posters is a true reflection of how very unfortunate d Nigerian problem is. And ds post serves as one.

According to OP, Buhari ws asked in English but he chose to respond first in Hausa, then finally in English to same question. So whats d brouhaha abt? Why is d noise over non-issue? Did u want his response in English? Yes u had it, straight frm him. Did he carry his immediate constituency along? Yes, he did. Did he succeed in communicating wt generality of d populace? Yes, he did. So whats d fuss abt?

D crime he probably committed against u is dt he didnt speak ur very own native language. So u got jealous and jumped on ur compiter to type rubbish on nairaland, feeling so unnecessary inferior to another tribe. That leaves u as d ethnic BIGOT who needs to go get his head checked.

Buhari's action is very ok and proper. I wish Patience Jonathan can emulate wtout bothering to even speak in English.

Can you imagine the uproar if Goodluck emerged from the voting booth and immediately began a rambling speech in Ijaw or Igbo to onlooking national journalists?

When did one speaking in Ijaw or Igbo called rambling?
Are you sure you have cast your vote yet to Jonathan? You may have forgotten because you spent all your time doing propaganda on the internet and forgot you have to go out and vote.

Dont mind any of ths SHIPISHi sheep. They have to be sheepish not to see any wrong in what you are saying!
Buhari is a core staunch tribalist. I DESPISE HIM
So you really have the time and energy to despise someone you don't know and person, doesn't even know too about your existence?
Can you imagine if Buhari is contesting election against you or your father? You will be running around the market square now without any clothing.
Some of you takes this thing way to serious. This is really laughable.

Mind you this election will be over in a couple of hours from now, then I wonder where you will be transferring your hate and despise of a fellow human, over an election, you where just a bystander. Some of you need help.

Wherever you go today, crooked human beings either white, black or brown reason the same way. Reading you post, remind one of those Rightwing American Nut Cases that still claim that Obama is a Secret Moslem, He wasn't born in America, they claimed to have seen his birth certificate.
Turn over the page to the Nigerian Nutcases- Buhari want to make us all Moslem, he is going to make Hausa (Awusa) official language. And he will turn all our bananas into an unripe plantain.

@homerac7 i watched live on ait after buhari voted. he was asked a question in ENGLISH he then chose to answer in hausa only when the reporter repeated the question again in english that he answered in the same language. i think the point  most posters are making is that buhari should be sensitive to know that he is not just addressing northerners but ALL nigerians
Re: Buhari Answers Reporters In HAUSA After Casting Vote! by KnowAll(m): 5:26pm On Apr 16, 2011
Buhari can only answer in a language that comes to him instinctively and that is " Hausa". This tyrant who came to prominence by the nuzzle of a Gun was not properly trained and schooled for diplomacy with regards to high and prestigious office. His primary job was to stand at ease behind a duly elected President and of course a well schooled Nigerian President would have been exposed to the intricacies of such high office during his sojourn for knowledge. Such Individuals would not be irritated  by speaking the Queens Lingo since this language would have been the language he/she used in writing and defending his projects, thesis,  reasons and thoughts.

When you have a situation where Hooligans are in Power, the demeaning attitudes of would be Presidential candidates knows no bounds and it should not surprise anyone, I believe if elected such candidates would result to hiring expert hands when faced with a complex and daunting question to answer on their behalf.  Nigeria at 50 don't need that any more when the country is bursting in her seams with Phd holders driving cabs, we have more than enough learned fellows to fly the flag for Nigeria than the buffoons coming out to run just because they came into prominence because of an illegality. We cannot be presenting people like Idi-Amin as our President in 2011. I feel jealous when I listen to Museveni and Mugabe speak the Queens language with such a natural flare, they too have an indigenous language too, I wonder why can't we present our best candidates for the top Job rather than move forward we seem contended at turning the clock back.

If it were not for Buhari's Junta misadventures of 1983 he would have been a persona- non- Grata in Nigeria today, not any different from hundreds of Generals who are not known and would never been known.

The good thing about learned southerners and even illiterate southerners is we would embrace him as our President. I have always said we have 3 good men in Ribadu, JEG and Buhari, but Buhari should be mindful of how he came to the lime-light. He was a soldier who mutinied against authority that alone is an offence he has not answered the allegation up till now. If he loses he should accept it in the spirit of sportsmanship. But a man who can carry a gun to get what he wants is similar to an armed robber who chooses to rob people because he has got a gun.

The armed robber has alternative way of making money if he is hungry. Why can't the armed robber go to the market and become " omo lanke" wheel barrow pusher, it is hard job but it would put bread on the table. Same thing with Coupist, they are impatient, greedy and narrow minded.
Re: Buhari Answers Reporters In HAUSA After Casting Vote! by Nobody: 11:33am On Apr 17, 2011
General Buhari is in process of calling a press conference where he is expected to concede defeat or announce if he would appeal against the current results. Feelers reaching us indicate that he doesn't like the new pattern of voting and he was over heard accusing INEC for not making him win this election as a result of the serial numbering of voting materials

Why not be a southern literate you claim to be by calling him a tyrant, what he did still remains one of the best things for Nigeria if IBB had not jumped in, he was about putting us back on course, we were getting used to the discipline he was about instilling in our Nigerian life until IBB came and turned Nigeria back to a country where the fittest takes all while the weakness die off.

Shagari was a figurehead just like GEJ is going to be and Shagari's ministers were taking him for a ride, his ministers were driving Nigeria into eternal debt and inflation was going into heaven.

Lets not throw the baby away with the bath water, Buhari is not a saint but he meant well for us in 1983 and meant well for us between 1995-1999 through PTF and still means well for us.

An armed Robber that robs and pillage and start given his loot to poor folks just like Anini started doing does not makes his actions right. Two wrongs cannot make a right. We must not be seen to encourage soldiers taken over legitimate governments, they are not trained to Govern and are not aware that some of their brutish diplomatic tactics employed, can cause more harm and damage to the nation than any progress.  If I am not wrong diplomatic relations between Britain and Nigeria suffered and was at a low ebb during Buhari's regime. And if I am not wrong it was the only time in our history that we we came close to breaking diplomatic ties with the UK.

Buhari's delinquent approach at apprehending Umaru Dikko was childish, short-sighted and in hindsight inappropriate and unnecessarily long winded,  if the right  authorities were approached with some degree of Decorum they would have handed over the fugitive hiding in the UK. But that silly regime of his went about it in a Barbaric manner.

If Shagari was not good the next man after him might be better. When you truncate democracy in a 19 state structure, some states are bound to suffer. Lagos State is one example of a state that suffered immensely from the childish military misadventures of Mohammudu Buhari's junta.

@KnowAll
All these rants won't help anything, that happened since more than 25yrs ago, we have been in democracy since 12 years now, why hasn't there be any meaningful development since then? we love the game blame while pushing away the main problem, when IBB removed Buhari after 18 months in office, why didn't the so called democrat ask for  democracy again? because they all knew that the previous people who claimed to be democrat were nothing but criminals, they had no case until 1999. Now till 1999 to now, what has changed? what has democracy given to a man who feeds below $1 a day? compare the life of a Nigerian in 1983 and that of a common man now, whats the difference?
