I was watch him on AiT where he was interviewed in 1998. They asked him about tv, he said he was not against it but the some programme were not ok for christians. And he also added that some christians watch christian video on the which had helped them grow in the lord. At that time in deeperlife sm pple still had tv in their bedroom not parlour

Pastor kumuyi said the same thing in one of his message. He said you don't have tv but you a computer in a private corner. What some of you watch on the PC is far worst than what is on TV. Who are you decieving ? Repent now. He talk about pornography etc. Most christians today are bound by the act of porns on their devices. Unless you have the tape of stating that or heard Kumuyi himself, you are one of the millions who bought into a wrong narrative about deeper life

Many of the people spreading propagandas about Deeper life are outsiders who don't know Jack about the doctrines of the church. I was born into deeper life and aside from those old days, deeper life have moved on from many of those. But many outsiders keep spreading the old doctrines.

He is having a program in Abuja, for all you know, his members may have arranged for the vehicle that will pick him at the airport.
In all, I don't think anyone should have a problem with how another person chose to spend his own money as long as he made it legitimately. And he never said his members shouldn't have a life. If you attend deeper camp programs, you will see the kind of cars the pastors drive.
There are just too many lies about the church and most of them are circulated by outsiders like you who have zero knowledge of happenings within the church.
They said deeper life members don't use TV, yet if you go to deeper church, you will see that every single deeper life church has a TV in it. Infact, it's compulsory. My dad is a pastor at deeper life yet he has a 55 inch plasma TV at home. Why is he not suspended yet?
They said the church has a ridiculous marriage doctrines yet Redeemed have tougher marriage doctrines and no one is talking about it. I married my wife in a Redeemed church and I know what we went through. Even as a deeper life member, I found it annoying at a point! I mean that church rejected her wedding dress 5 times. If it was deeper life, people will start talking.

Enough it's like you are new in deeper life iwas a leader then in the 80s it was a sin to take photographs in ceremonies you will be suspended and you dare not own a TV box you will be removed and barred from being a worker they are all worldly also your parents and families are termed unbelievers @ then these are preached openly they should deny it openly if they have embraced civilization

You are very correct.....but the question I want to ask is "has God changed" how will those elders in deeperlife church today who denied themselves good life because of religion/doctrine feel today?

In all honesty, I think this should not be a big issue. I'm sure the Abuja congregation rented the limo out of the need to honour a VIP guest and Pastor Kumuyi doesn't have to reject such honor which was actually unplanned and an actual surprise. One of the few untainted men of God in this country is still Pastor Kumuyi, Lazarus and Olukoya. They are not corrupted by money. Let's criticise with sense!

Your question is reasonable so I'll answer you. Back in the days, there is a general campaign against visual media by churches all over the world. Which depper life spearheaded like many other churches. Same way there was a general campaign against social media by churches when it first hit Nigeria.
I should point out tho that deeper life did not back the idea of members not owning a TV with any biblical references, they only defend the decision with the possibility that what people watch on TV may corrupt them. Infact, those days, we use to watch Christian movies in church even though the church had a doctrine against TV. And look at the world now. Social media and TV has actually corrupted the world for real so one can argue that they were right after all.
As for why they later embraced it, I will say that the media won the battle, same way social media won the fight against the church and churches now have programs on Facebook and all other social media platforms.
Even till now, deeper life does not promote their programs on TV, but they have backtracked on the doctrine of members not owning a TV for a long time now. Same way they have backtracked on many of their other doctrines. Not that they are wrong but because they know they can't win a war against something that is general accepted.

Just because Jesus never drove a car, Christians should continue riding a donkey right? Time changes a lot of things.

I salute ur explanation, but let me tell you a bitter truth. Many of these church' leaders bring their own doctrines and impose it on members not necessarily that they see wrong aspect of it, but to completely dominate their members and control them and their economy well beings. It happened in Bible too, Matthew 20.

Take for instance, lord chosen imposes apron on members, putting fears on them, claiming its the weapons of protection, meanwhile, such members are just doing free advert for lord chosen.

I wish u closer to pastors and Church leader and see how they plan in the closet before announcing doctrines / information to members. On several occasions, their ulterior motives are not genuinely from God, and this is more reason the doctrine fades with passage of time.

Go and check doctrines of "church of old", it still last til date. Why? It came out genuinely and not other personal motives from owner or leader

It was preached across all his churches at least during the late 80s/90s. I happen to have heard it during several sermons myself.

I have still never heard Kumuyi bragging about material possessions as some other church leaders do, so I don't understand what all the fuss is about.

Take it or leave it, he's closer to God than most church leaders of this nation are.

He tried to get things right because of his love for God, but made some errors along the way. It's better than not trying at all or caring about doing things the right way, which is what many others are guilty of.

By the way, I am not a member of his church and don't think I have ever stepped my feet into a deeper life church building, but I have some respect for the man because I can see in him a man who really has the interest of God at heart.
