CHIEF OF DEFENSE STAFF, GENERAL LUCKY IRABOR, TAKES BOLD STEP TO PROMOTE TALENTED MILITARY OFFICERS

Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, has taken an unusual but bold step to promote talented, younger military officers.

About 50 Patriotic Generals in the Army, Navy and Air force will now make their exit for younger officers whose growth was previously stunted by the logjam at the top.

Women rights group also report that the decision taken by Gen. Irabor has created the biggest opportunity in Nigeria’s history for women serving in the armed forces to climb the leadership ladder.
So this man has such power to do so?

1. Young and energetic soldiers

2. Proper funding. Funds should be channeled to the right places.

3. Adequate and intensive training for soldiers, and supply of modern equipment

4. Good pay

This should be done.

Let's see how things will go.
They won't do that since military and other important sector of the country has been politicized. Promotion is not based on merit again is now on tribes and religion you practice. What a failed country called NIGERIA.

Very apt, it should be voluntary though. However, the northerners will still climb to the top because they are more in the military. These guys are so smart, they are tops in military and civil service.

They position their younger ones, while the rest of us speak grammar and find ways to ensure the younger ones don't rise to the top.
if your brother refuse to help you,why are you blaming the person that got help from his brother?

Were you paid for this lame attempt to launder the image of General Irabor in view of trying to forcefully retires 50 Generals in the Army or you are doing pro-bono PR for him?

In trying to forcefully retire the Generals before the appropriate time, General Irabor is violating established management policies, protocols and relevant laws not to talk of the rights of the affected Generals.

Whatever good he or his supporters may say is coming out of the exercise is immaterial. People who violate the law typically do it for their selfish interest while sometimes trying to mask it as for the public good. The public who made the laws very well know that their interest is protected in obeying the laws, not violating them. If there was appropriate law and order and respect for same in the military that would guarantee the required progress of junior officers, Irabor wouod be unable to attempt what he is trying to do in the first instance. Is it not this same military where Service Chiefs went beyond their retirement age and years of service reportedly at the instance of the President and still got rewarded with Ambassadorial appointments after exit? What that military needs is proper orientation on respect for extant laws, policies and regulations and not another law breaker looking for a sentimental excuse!

Bad for our military intelligence. Part of the reason we can’t overcome our security challenges.
Not as bad as you think. Most of the Colonels who got promoted to the rank of Brigadier General's in 2019 are just office men in their various units and departments. These are officer's who are not lacking in knowledge with the recent happenings as it relates to terrorism etc. World over, I believe in their penultimate ranks, they had the privilege to go for numerous courses as it relates to counter terrorism. In essence what I am trying to buttress is the fact that these officer's are without portfolios as such, they are not able to contribute their quota in terms of security.

THE NORTH IS USING THIS SOUTHERN GENERAL TO SPOIL OPPORTUNITY OF THE SOUTHERN MILITARY OFFICERS.

This after putting a fulani officer as head of the army.

This move by this Southerner may be costly o. Progress for us in the north is not what we want now embarassed

If he fails to promote more Northerners, he signed his compulsory retirement by himself. The North is Nigerian Army and Nigerian Army is the North. General Irabor knows better.

Thunder fire you and the so called young officers. If your father is among, will you say the same?

So they should go even when they haven't gotten to their official retirement age.
