I know that you are not writing this from Somalia and East Africa where people are actually starving due to bad leadership. If what you mentioned is not a beacon of good leadership why is Europe and America in crisis with rioting and Occupy Wall Street because their leaders are denying them with austerity measures what you said Gaddafi gave to his people and should not be celebrated as a beacon of good leadership.

DON'T try to compare Qaddafi to Mandela angry angry

Without Qaddafi's support you won't have a Mandela!! He was at the forefront of fighting apartheid!!

People, this is who leaders should strive through discipline to be like. This is a man that has massive wealth yet dwells in tents, he knows the real owners of his country and also understand that since history isn't reversible, we can only try to make the best of it. I was offered free education, health care and even pocket money to stay in Libya because my uncle works there as a top doctor and my mom was a cardiologist in Libya for years whenever a leader from Nigeria visits Libya, Qaddafi calls my mom, uncle and step dad for a welcoming ceremony.

My experience with Qaddafi and in Libya is one of paradise. I can stay out and play all day in the park with my friends and like they do every kid that's out playing when it gets dark, the soldiers simply come  and find our parent's home to take us to. Peaceful, I wasn't a Muslim, I wasn't a Christian either infact Qaddafi himself tho a Muslim was searching for the root of the religion. He had historical research centers in Tripoli and Benghazi where Pan Africanists, social engineers etc,  come to research history of the African people and their historical relation to Islam and Christianity.

My 3 years in Libya as child was one of the brightest part of my childhood. I can tease a soldier on the street with no gun shot. You can take their gun if you catch them sleeping and seriously the only trouble you get in is some boogie man yelling at you with no right to hit you,  It is only those who entered Libya illegally that Qaddafi feared will ruin his nation. Seriously, the world has lost an example!!

Libya is the only Muslim majority nation I can live in without discrimination. Qaddafi puts African religions and Islam at the top of his mind! He is visionary. forget his arrogance. If Obomber get such wisdom, vision and power, he'd be even more arrogant,

Wow! what  a statement. I suggest you read your history books on liberation of South Africa

Food, housing, clothing are RIGHTS for all; not a privilege. We (Africans) have been denied of this right for so long that any leader that provides this is hailed as a messiah. We have to demand more of our leaders to lift our nations from underdevelopment.

Issues of Occupy wall street does not equate to this discussion.

STOP THINKING AND SEEING IN ONLY BLACK AND WHITE
GADDAFI PLACED $97 BILLION ON TABLE TO FREE AFRICA FROM IMPERIALISM!
Why They Want Him, Dead!
The Picture: War on Libya is War on Entire Africa
Source: Reuters Edited By: Quoriana
Posted: 2011/07/27
In 2010 Gaddafi offered to invest $97 billion in Africa to free it from Western influence, on condition that African states rid themselves of corruption and nepotism. Gaddafi always dreamed of a Developed, United Africa and was about to make that dream come true – and nothing is more terrifying to the West than a Developed, United Africa.
Here is a selection of the initiatives Libya has already put in place in Africa, as well as some of the projects it is planning, explaining why the West’s illegal war against Libya also is a war against Entire Africa.
AFRICAN UNION: Libya is one of the biggest contributors to the budget of the African Union. A Libyan diplomat told Reuters Libya is one of five countries — the others are Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria and South Africa — which cover 75 percent of the Union’s budget. “Libya makes its full required contribution to AU funds. Not all countries do and that buys it influence,” a senior African Union official said.
MALI: For several years Mali has been confronted with the activities of the radical Islamist militia Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb in its northern deserts. Gaddafi’s money and diplomacy have helped to resolve conflicts in northern Mali between rebels and the government. In 2010 Libya has given Mali two security planes to combat insecurity in the north of the country. These conflicts could flare up again if Gaddafi exits the stage. Nowadays Gaddafi has many supporters in Mali who regularly march to protest against the Western-led military intervention in Libya.
CONGO: Libya has put $65 billion into sovereign wealth funds, including one which is specifically designed to make investments in Africa. The Libyan Arab African Investment Company, a vehicle of Libya’s Africa sovereign wealth fund, owns Le Meridien, one of the biggest hotels in Congo. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment paid for by Libyan investment. In 2010, Libya planned to fund the building of a highway north of Congo’s capital Brazzaville, where also the building of a mosque is planned.
LIBERIA: Libya has provided millions in investment projects, helping to strengthen the rule of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in one of Africa’s most impoverished nations. Gaddafi’s help includes the funding of a rubber processing factory built in Gbarnga, Bong County, a technical and vocational school for the handicapped, as well as Libyan assistance in helping Liberia tackle the food crisis and renovation for the Ducor Intercontinental Hotel.
NIGER: Also in Niger Gaddafi has helped to prop up the government and the authorities would become more fragile without his financial help. Libyan Prime Minister Al-Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmoudi visited Niger in August 2010 and announced the creation of a $100 million investment fund for Niger as part of a strengthening of bilateral ties. Under earlier agreements, Libya is contributing 100 million euros for the construction of a Trans-Sahara highway in the north of Niger, according to sources close to Niger’s foreign ministry. The local subsidiary of Libya Oil, along with Total, are the major players in Niger’s fuel retailing business.
CHAD: Gaddafi has been a key supporter of the government, which would weaken if it lost his aid revenue. Chad has been plagued by civil wars and invasions after its independence from France in 1960. After years of unrest, Gaddafi seals a peace agreement for Chad between four Chadian rebel groups and the Chadian government in 2007, which agreement was signed in Sirte.
In 2010 Libya made a huge investment in Chad’s National Telecom, which meant a boost of the number of the Chadian mobile phone users from 100,000 to two million.
CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC: Libya has helped to prop up the fragile government, sending paratroopers into the capital in 2001 to defeat a rebel assault. In 2008 Gaddafi played a role in the formation of a peace agreement between the government and rebel groups.
MAURITANIA: Gaddafi was the first head of state to visit after a 2008 coup which brought President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz to power. Aziz, who subsequently won a presidential election, has visited Gaddafi several times since then. Even Mauritanian opposition politicians have gone to Tripoli to pledge allegiance to the Libyan leader. Mauritania has debts to Libya of about $200 million. During discussions on debt relief in May 2010, the Libyan Central Bank announced Libya would provide $50 in grants to build a hospital and a university. The university is to be named after Gaddafi.
SUDAN: The 20,000-troop peacekeeping mission in Dafur, jointly supported by the African Union and the United Nations, could be hampered if the African Union (AU) loses funding from Gaddafi and destabilize the country. Gaddafi, who blamed the crisis in Darfur on Israel, made a number of attempts to broker peace talks between Darfur rebels and the Sudanese government.
In October 2010, Gaddafi warned ahead of a vote on possible independence for South Sudan that a partition of the country would be a “contagious disease” that could spread to other African states.
ETHIOPIA: The African Union, based in Ethiopia’s capital, could find itself in financial trouble if it loses the massive support that Gaddafi gives it. Under his rule, Libya supplied 15% of the AU’s membership dues, and it also paid the dues of many smaller and poorer African nations. To seek for a solution of the Eritrea-Ethiopia conflict, Gaddafi has sent a special envoy to Ethiopia in 2000. In 2008, Libya’s OiLibya bought Shell Ethiopia. This agreement also included retaining all Shell employees, who were hoping to work in a better environment since a long time
SOMALIA: The African Union peace keeping mission, whose 8,000 soldiers are crucial to the battle against Islamic radicals in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, could be severely weakened if the AU lost the financial support of Gaddafi. In 2008 Libya decided to grant an investment fund to Somalia through the Sahel-Saharan Investment and Trade Bank to fund infrastructures such as roads and bridges within Somalia.
GAMBIA: Libyan firms own two hotels and the “Dream Park” entertainment centre in Gambia. Gambian agriculture has received support from Libya, including a donation of seven new tractors. In 2009 Gaddafi gave two camels to Gambian President Yahya Jammeh as a gift. The Libyan and Gambian presidents have exchanged visits and senior Gambian officials attended ceremonies in September to mark the anniversary of Gaddafi coming to power. On September 7, 2009, Gambia celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Al Fateh Revolution: “In Libya everyone enjoys Freedom!”.

No brain cells in these Gadaffi apologists. Libya had a small population relative to its oil wealth so even though Gaddaffi and his family were looting the country, they had enough left over to make the place relatively better off than your average African state.

As for his pan-African rhetoric, it is all vacuous dross belied by some of his actions including the invasion of neighbouring Chad, twice, and the sponsoring of genocidal rebel groups in Sierra Leone and Liberia. Remember the RUF against whom Nigerian soldiers fought and died and who specialised in ra-ping and amputating limbs?

It is sad that some Africans are so gullible that they look with admiration upon a blood thirsty dictator whose own people have emphatically rejected him.

Killing Libyans to free Libyans,Hmn.And some narrow minded and stupid Nigerians are supporting this grave injustice meted out to Libya.
The Western governments are hypocrites and liars.Look at what they did to Iraq.I pity the Libyans. The most worrisome aspect of this war on Libya was the way the western press was embedded with the rebels reporting their propaganda 24hrs,even the left leaning news media.

They said that they were going to protect civilians and not regime change.
They saw a large convoy of civilian cars and suspected they they might be some one of high value and bombed it saying that it was a command and control post.Liars.

France and Qatar broke a UN embargo and supplied weapons to the rebels as well as putting troops on the ground by Britain and the western media saw all these and refused to report it.

Bottom line Qaddafi was killed by America,Britain and France.

Rest in Peace,The Lion of Africa.

Colonel Muammar Gadaffi, a young visionary who begun a revolution that changed the destiny of his country from an Italian installed monarchy to a successful government of the masses.
The man who saw hypocrisy in western ideas and stood firm against them
The man who never betrayed his people to dine with the devil
A true man of the soil, a true king in Africa.
Those who shed your blood and those of your people to betray Libya are yet to witness the worst to come.
You had your flaws, you had your strengths. That made you human like everyone else, the fact remains you changed Libya for the better. May God reward your good works and pardon your excesses.
Re: Condolence Register For Ghadaffi : by xcolanto(m): 10:14pm On Oct 24, 2011
It is only great men that are assassinated (the likes of JFK, Martin Luther King etc) R.I.P to Ghadaffi who refused to sell his country out to western powers and fought till his death as he promised in the cause of defending his people against western draining (Brain drain), exploitation (oil) and unproductive economic policies (privatization of Government facilities, industries and importation of western made products while degrading the locally existent manufactures) through institutions like the world bank and the IMF. A man of so much authority that never exalted himself over the rank of a colonel (unlike many other African leaders that all answer Generals for the love and greed of power mostly nja  grin) and identified himself as a brother leader which made his people see him as a brother and a father figure mostly expressed by kissing his hand when in close contact with him. This is a man that rode freely on the streets of Libya over the roof of a car and had cheers and support in almost every street he passed by (its on youtube). This shows that the man was loved by a higher percentage (his people) than he was disliked by a lower percentage (bengazi al-quada rebels). It is important to stress that most of the so called "NTC" Rebel fighter were imported from other Arab, french and European countries and all fought for their respective interests, hence the face-off with other rebel fractions mostly read off on the news. Indeed Africa has lost one of the last strong visioned leader and history would forever know his name! Muammar bin Mohammad bin Abdussalam bi Humayd bin Abu Manyar bin Humayd bin Nayil al Fuhsi Gaddafi  cool

Before he was killed. He asked do you know right from wrong, that word carries weight. It is like. Do you know what you are doing agent of white man? Democracy is not for you, good leadership is what you need. Gaddafi was a strong head, a killer which majority of the world leaders are however some are not called so because all animals are not the equal. How I wish we have a leader that posessess those good quality of his regarding welfare of his people. We have always been gang violated politically, monetary wise, intellectually and in every aspect of our lives by our politicians. I pray a good leader emerges in our country. Gaddafi might have been tagged Mad dog but that is what leadership all about, believing in your course and be ready to die with it. China, Syria, North Korea, Yemen and host of others have human right problems; killing some of their citizens at will, I am looking forward to the day the intervention squad will invade those countries.

Why do people always bring up ghaddafi invading Chad.

There were about 7 Chadian revolutionary groups that asked for Libyan assistance because they were tired of being French puppets. The opposition coalition eventually fell apart because they felt the leader might be a Libyan puppet and didnt want a unified Islamic state.

The whole point was to get rid of the French though. Ghaddafi harassed the French across Africa, esp. with his gold dinar plan. Why do you think France was so eager to drop the first bomb?

Hitler: By April 1945, with Soviet soldiers closing in, Hitler shot himself in the head while his wife Eva Braun took poison.

Italian dictator Benito Mussolini tried to escape for Switzerland, but was caught and summarily executed. His body and that of his mistress were hung by the heels in Milan next to a garage and mutilated by passersby.

Elena Ceaucescu and Nicolae Ceaucescu faced a TV camera on Christmas day in 1989. They were executed by firing squad shortly after and buried in marked graves in a public cemetery in Bucharest.

Notorious Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot was the architect of the Khmer Rouge's 1975-79 "killing fields" rule during which more than a million Cambodians were killed. He died in 1998, his body burned on a pyre of burning tires and debris.

Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's hanged in Baghdad on December 30, 2006. Spectators taunted him in the minutes before the hanging

Why are you guys getting your knickers in a twist about Gadaffi's demise. The guy was a dictator; lived liked one and died like one. There's no good or bad dictator. A dictator is a dictator. Below are some heinous men who met a similar fate as Gadaffi. Like Gadaffi they also professed to be taking care of their people. Gaddafi was no different. In case you don't want to read the full article, some highlights:

- Qaddafi Was Worth More Than $200 Billion By Far The Richest Person In The World

- Muammar Qaddafi was three times as rich as Carlos Slim and ten times richer than King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia — easily the richest man in the world.

- How did he get so rich?
"King of Kings" Qaddafi had uncontested personal control over the largest oil reserves in Africa for the past 41 years.

-Unlike Abdullah and other oil-rich leaders, Qaddafi invested little money in national infrastructure like schools and hospitals or any kind of economic diversification. What money Qaddafi did spend went largely to buy support from African leaders.

- While much of this money was held by government institutions like the Central Bank of Libya and the Libyan Investment Authority, Qaddafi was able to withdraw money at will.
