In West Africa, Calabar hosted the esteemed Calabar Carnival from December 1st to the 31st, drawing over 2 million attendees from 25 countries. Recognized as Nigeria's pride, this grand celebration showcased a captivating fusion of culture, music, food, and festivities.

As the largest, wealthiest, and longest tourism event in West Africa, the Calabar Carnival has evolved into an annual spectacle that unites people across borders in joyous revelry. We had the privilege of participating in this grand celebration, contributing to the dazzling display of Nigeria’s cultural richness and creativity.

The Calabar Carnival stands as a testament to Nigeria’s diversity and unity, presenting cultural wealth through traditional dances echoing centuries-old rhythms and contemporary musical performances resonating with modern afrobeat.

Calabar Carnival 2023 not only showcased Nigeria’s cultural richness but also demonstrated the power of collective celebration and unity. It is a testament to the indomitable spirit of a nation proud of its heritage while embracing the world with open arms.

The Chairman of the Cross River State Carnival Commission, Gabe Onah, emphasized that culture is the foundation of the carnival concept, with the Nigerian heritage serving as a product for people to appreciate and benefit from. He stated, “Our culture is truly the bedrock of our tomorrow, and that is why a dedicated day has been fixed to showcase our heritage. Out of the 22 Nigerian States expected for the parade, 15 arrived, and the 18 councils, including the Hausa-Fulani, the Yoruba, and Igbo communities, are all here to showcase culture.”

Nollywood actor and comedian Okon Lagos, along with Destiny Etiko, were present, showcasing their talents. Social media influencer Fari Elysian also attended, enjoying the rich cultural heritage of the carnival.
