Joe Ajaero isn't being reasonable. If Nigeria starts paying workers what he wants, it means that government will even borrow money to pay salaries while everything else is abandoned.

The biggest illusion we have in this country is to think that Nigeria is a rich country. I don't know how a country that budgets less than $50 billion for one year for 220 million people is rich. To date, I don't know what we are doing with two legislature houses.

Anyways, NLC and TUC should ask for something that is sustainable. Those who earn less than 100k should get 100% pay raise and those who earn more than 100% should get 30% pay raise.
Most of the monies borrowed by government is usually relooted by same government so it's better we borrow to pay salaries than for looting

For me, NLC is asking for too much and the government doesn't seem to care about nobody.

Hoelujohn:

The government can pay 200k by downsizing by about 30% of it's bloated workforce

Robbing Peter to pay Paul? Its obvious the FG canot do that because letting staff go means heavy severance payments...defeating the purpose.

Sheuns:
How do you expect SMEs to pay their staff a minimum of 615k because minimum wage cuts across workers in the country.

Organisations with less than 50 staff are exempt

Minimum wage may not be meaningfully increased until allocation of salaries stops and workers are paid based on hours worked.

When it's time to pay civil servants that toil day n night then you will start hearing flimsy talks..
Yet political office holders like senators earn very fat salaries n allowances not to talk about other sundry funds they receive.
Let them pay n stop complaining.

No doubt wages and salaries should be reviewed, upscaled, and upgraded but 615k is not only going to drive up inflation, but locally cripple the value of the naira which is our national identity. The federal government is in-between the rock and the hard place as it is with this topic. The natural solution for this may be to 1)Drive down prices of goods and services (even if it has to subsidize grains such as rice, beans , maize etc).
2) start giving out incentives and cash award to civil servants and artisans to mitigate the effect of this hardship
3) Adequate security and mechanized incentives for farmers everywhere.

Clown. 615k minimum wage, are you okay? You wan to turn Nigeria to Zimbabwe. The Naira that is already struggling, you want it to be tissue paper abi... How many states can even pay the 45k, when most of them are still struggling to pay 30k.

It's not good to pay civil servants 615K but good for politicians to steal funds in trillions...!!

Many Nigerians are wired to be mumu truly...!!

The money is there to pay...!!! The politicians are just simply stealing it on an industrial scale...!!

As much as it's good to raise the minimum wage what we should insist on is the affordability of such a wage.

No use increasing the wage to N1 million if inflation will take 90-95% of the monthly pay.

615k? grin Last last na wheelbarrow people go use carry cash go buy loaf of bread. Mugu man. The beating he ate in Imo didn't reset his blunt brain. Minimum wage at this point should be between 70k and 100k max. Otherwise inflation will drive the economy into tatters.

Dumb union leaders who failed to tackle the government on the root causes. Abrupt removal of subsidies in critical sectors and floating of the Naira are the immediate causes of the current economic crisis. angry

Let's discuss realty for a family of 5.

12.5kg gas @ ₦15k for a month, let's say you don't cook daily, you can manage for 1.5 months. That's ₦10k per month.

Feeding at ₦6k per day (Total management). That's ₦120k per month.

Lets say you buy clothes once every 3 months at ₦60k for a family of 5, that's ₦20k per month.

Utilities = ₦30k per month (soap,power, water, PSP, security etc)

School fees (if all 3 children are in public schools) = ₦50k per child x 3 = ₦150k/3 (A term is 3 months) = ₦50k per month.

Transportation = ₦20k per month

Housing = ₦800k for a 2 bedroom for a family of 5 = ₦67k per month.

Total = ₦317k per month.

Let's say father and mother works and bring home their share.

Meaning they need a minimum of ₦155k each to meet up with the above bills without savings, emergency fund, investment fund or money for miscellaneous.

The least the government can do is increase minimum wage to ₦150k per month.

Anything below ₦100k is pure wickedness!

600k wage will send prices so high we will be dealing with hyperinflation in no time. Imagine a bottle of coke costing N6500, or a dollar going for N23,000.

The solution is to beat down prices with more production but because the workers are largely soft workers, bureaucratic people and idlers, they have little say in boosting production or helping the current Minimum Wage to start buying what it used to before. A shame.

But there will be no inflation when politicians earn like senators, the salary of a thousand civil servants in a year as total emoluments and constituency allowance abi?

That 15kg gas for a family of five must finish in a month. If u won't cook daily, eating junks is more expensive.

6k for a family of five, three sq meals a day is impossible. So each person eats less than #1500 a day. How? Where can you see a plate of food for 500 in this country? Even in the villages it's very rare

“We looked at food for a family of six, that is about N9,000 in a day. For 30 days, that is about N270,000. Look at medical, N50,000 provided there will be no surgery or whatever. “For clothing, we looked at N20,000. For education, N50,000. I don’t know for those who tried to put their children in private school, they will not be able to cope with this amount. We also have sanitation of N10,000. “I think where we have another bulk of the money is transportation. This is because the workers stay in the fringes and because of the cost of PMS, that amounted to N110,000.
So minimum wage is the Government paying these men, not just for work done, but also for the wives they marry and the children they bear with said wives? Yikes! lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

If you dont cook daily or you cook in a bulky manner, you can still manage 12.5kg for 6 weeks.

Talking from experience. Sometimes we get 8 weeks if we dont cook daily.
