Possibly, we are going to see updated pictures of work progress coming from the duplex project from Owerri. More on this later this night.

Work will continue here as the concrete beam will be poured tomorrow, meanwhile all arrangements are being made for the parapet to be started before the roof.

Chief Spider, well done my broda! You're sure a luminary. Can you give me a rough estimate of the amount that will be incurred on a 5 bedroom duplex slab! Don't ask me how many square meters my broda, my builder handles all these and I'm not interested in asking for nonsensical square-meters grin Just give me a rough estimate. 3 bedrooms with living room upstairs; 2 bedrooms with living room downstairs. The slab, my oga, how much hin go cost? Location: Ajah/Lekki axis- here a bag of cement is 2000naira, and materials r a bit steep, with this in consideration, please do give me a rough estimate Thanks in advance

Without a plan, this will be very difficult to calculate. Can you post only the first floor plan on this thread so all of us can discuss this? The materials cost you gave is only the cement, what about the unit prices of granite, sand and rods there.

I am on my way to Owerri once more, my mission is to measure all the floors to determine the actual sq meter for all the rooms and toilet/bath floors. The walls of the toilet/baths will also be measured. My workers will also measure the actual details for the doors, windows as my plumber is measuring the toiletries/bath fittings.

We are doing all these because the owner of this house will need all these vital information to buy and ship all the necessary finishing materials from abroad.

As we arrange for the parapet and roofing, the fittings will be getting closer home for final finishing touches. Stay tuned for more details.

This is the way this house looks right now, more works are ongoing, like the final smoothing of our pillars, and preparations for parapet works. Still talking with carpenters and getting quotes for wood and other materials.

nagodeallah: Spyder, pls permit me to post the pics of this house on your thread. I've got the permission of the people handling the project to take the pics. What do you think about the 10m king post for the roof?

I dont think this kingpost is up to 10m, but the height is very impressive, I love the peaked look and it will give a superb fit when completed. I like the works.

The following pictures are posted to help my good friend who is going to start his roofing very soon. He mailed me this morning and asked me a question about some of my comments and general information about building. So we are going to tickle our visual senses and see which colour of roof goes better with which colour of paint on a building. If you have an observation, a picture or an idea that will help our friend make a nice choice, please say so, or post your picture of an ideal roof/exterior paint combination, enjoy cheesy

This is my color chart for stone coated tiles roofing sheets. Some colors are not represented here, but we shall see them in the following pictures.

How do you like this brown combination?, coffee colored roof, strong brown walls and trimmed off with whites on the window hoods

Re: Strong, Beautiful And Affordable Homes by spyder880(m): 9:42pm On Aug 26, 2012
I showcased this building at its construction stage last year, and now its finished and occupied, what color is this roof, does anyone know?

I think this white wall finish did justice to the color of the roof, I wonder which other color would have matched that roof.

Re: Strong, Beautiful And Affordable Homes by spyder880(m): 9:46pm On Aug 26, 2012
I like the effect of classy cool that white walls give, irrespective of the roof colour.

This is black vs white cheesy

Re: Strong, Beautiful And Affordable Homes by spyder880(m): 9:50pm On Aug 26, 2012
This is another combination I liked, this new idea of using different colors for the ground floor and another colour for the first floor is gaining popularity in Enugu. I saw this in 3 places today alone.

Enugu got taste! My roofer had recently confirmed this to me.

Was this not the building you tried getting its floorplan last year? If it is, abeg mail me the plan make I give to one of my client.

My man, how was your weekend? Its the same house, till today the engineer that built the house is still refusing to give me the plans, even as I offered to give him N10k for a photocopy, he was asking for N50k.

@bugmenot,

Sometimes it is necessary to carry out engineering treatment of the soil, dewatering, and reinforcing the ground in order to achieve adequate ground conditions.
This will make the ground suitable for design function over the life of the project.

However, there is hardly enough info to latch onto. The only info here is "I'm building a 95sqm in Ajah"

We need to know how you arrived at your foundation design.

1) How deep is the foundation?
2) What is the groundwater table?
3) What kind of soil characteristics?
4) What is the depth of the foundation?
5) What is the expected load?
6) Was that the geotechnical design recommendation or presumed bearing resistance?

In some other regions within Lekki, a full excavation for a 600sqm basement with a concrete foundation 7 feet underground with slabs would start at about N3m

Price range depends on how carefully you define the scope of work, where you are building, and what quality of work you are seeking. As you have not defined any of these parameters, it would be strictly a guess for anyone on this forum to offer an opinion on a price range especially on an engineering quote like this.
The terms are just too technical for a layman builder like myself or DIY homeowner.
________________

And for the "BITHUTHENE 2000" waterproofing, my simple advice is don't
ever let the water get to your fdn. It is absolutely the best waterproofing design.

Pitch your house and drain outside!
