It is not just about writing anything in nairaland in expression of individual opinion. It is about reason. I quoted this from a fellow NL poster @Godman_n. I find his post very insightful and thought provoking - please let's debate this post WITHOUT tribal bashing. Thanks. 2 Likes |

@post fact: after independence nigeria operated true federalism which was later destroyed for unitary system(enormous power to the centre) by a southerner!! . . . .aguiyi ironsi! fact: the devilish land use act was propagated by a southerner!! . . . .obasanjo! these were policies that really destroyed nigeria |

op i hope you would at least admit that the north is disproportionally desperate for political power even though they are the least educated in nigeria. do you think that the least educated in all the big countries are allowed to rule even for one day? some of you suffer from the ostrich syndrome because you refuse to see clear facts for what they are. you prefer to deceived yourself. nigeria will never in a million years be greater than say ghana or cameroun because those countries are ruled by educated people. cameroun proved to nigeria that we are empty giants ruled by illiterate islamic extremists and thieves. they basically snatched bakassi right from under us without is lifting a finger. go and think about that. ghana is gradually taking over west african pride of place while we keep making noise about population. israel is the most technologically advanced and militarily strongest country in the middle east even though they are probably the least populated. they sell military technology to india and china (the worlds most populated countries). you nigerians need to go to school |

Ejiné: Theodore Orji, Achike Udenwa, Martin Elechi, the crossed out names never held executive state leadership position in a democracy. the rest are pdp thieves imposed on us to lead us. the rest are common thieves who probably could have been picked up by an efficient local government police formation, the type that doesn't exist in nigeria. even at that ngige would have turned anambra into mini-london in 8 years if he continued in office. 1 Like |

I disagree with most of the write-up. There is corruption everywhere in the world but some countries are way advanced than others. Why? It is singularity of purpose. These countries possesses the right mentality. The mentality of progress, development, human dignity, national pride and individuals strive to be remembered in history. They don't bother with shiiit like tribalism. Most of them are single ethnic countries. When they are not, they find ways of living in harmony without fear of one ethnic group dominating the other. But here, the Northern part has refused to educate their people,to liberate them from the shackles of ignorance. All they want is the blind pursuit of power, for power sake. Look at our history, both southerners and northerners helped ruin it but it is glaringly obvious that the most damage was done by northern leaders. They are comfortable living like this. Their leaders believe in nigeria's money, instead of investing it here, they fly out and spend like the world is ending. In short, the mentality of the northern leaders is deficient. They know Nigeria cannot last,so they milk it as fast as possible. They just do not care about the suffering northern populace. All they want is power to keep the nigerian people and her potential in perpetual bondage |

If the system is inherently bad why not find a way out. These writings are merely history and geography. The question is who wants change and what are they doing to resist or encourage it. What is the north actively doing to free themselves from the centre. What is the north actively doing in seeking independent development. In short what are they doing to survive post 4th republic beyond religious extremism. There was a time Germany was a paraih state with 9 in 10 belonging to the Nazi party. That is history. Today they are engines of euro growth and democracy. What direction is the north going, better or worse. Do they ever see themselves as the germany of nigeria. Yes or no. That is the worry. That is the agitation. That if you have a gangrenous leg your best bet will be to cut it off. If the core north offers nothing but pure trouble day in day out what is the point. So it is not a matter of who started the fight in 1960 but whether issues are resolved today. History is only for learning. Right practice leads to success. Don't divert from the issues. |

@ OP Please correct your self !!! Its the bastard, corrupt, wicked, nigerian leaders since 1960 that destroyed nigeria after independence, and not the improverished, poor, suffering, miserable, masses or the common nigerian that has been bearing the pain, and the agony of the corrupt opperessing ruling elites since 1960. This is so disgusting. Let us seperate the oppressors from the oppressed. |

These are people overly protective of territory, tribe and religious toga that the elements, the seeds of development cannot even bear roots. If anyone genuinely knows how to develop that region, I would really like to know, honest. Is it by infrastructure, education, commerce, entertainment, religion, culture or what. They have resisted and rejected all the above by external parties so what now. They routinely hound and kill traders, sabotage infrastructure. Now kidnap and kill expats, destroy centres of other faiths, block or prevent so called western culture and influences and now through BH seek the end of 'western education'. If your elites are given the cash not a penny reaches the target. So how?. Even regions as conservative as the emirates are opening up. So who's model are they following. We have problems in Nigeria I tell you. |

okay, all d tribes in nigeria r responsible 4 d decadence, whats the solution? the strength in a one country is destroyed by pure hatred, marginalisation and murder- be a southener working in d north n u'll concur. how many more people v to die b4 we find an equation to unite us as one? the strength in countries that v harnessed their high population 4 productivity eg india, china etc may never b attained in a black nation. amount of bld shed doesn't justify d oneness. lets split! |

I just want to say few things and i don't want to take any offense. To the poster,Where will all these lead us to? If am asked to say, i will say that if this statement was writing by an ibo man, he must have had many investments in the north. My advice is start relocating them to south now. Don't justify what the north are doing now by telling us that all tribes contributes to destroying nigeria. Who has been ruling nigeria since independence? How many years have and ibo, yoruba, or south south ruled this country? Don't justify them now because In the minds of the south as a whole, separation should be best just like it was done in sudan. My advice, start relocating cause live first to pursue money later. North has destroyed 9ja with boko haram and killings. Just because a man from south south won the election for the very first time in history, north began killing southerners and Nysc corpers. Why should it be so even though you have been ruling since and the man u are fighting for has also ruled before. North killed the unity of 9ja and is best we separate from them 3 Likes |

There is nothing wrong with one Nigeria, what we simply want is that the killing of southerners in the north under whatever motive must end, i have lived and worked all my live in Kano always in fear, always being careful of where i am just to avoid finding myself in the main city when any riot starts. the reasons for this riots sometimes have nothing to do with Nigeria example when America attacked Abganistan and Iraq over 200 Nigerians of sourthern origin and even middle belt people because they dress and look like sourtherners, when Jonathan was elected last year i was in Kaduna i suvived being killed because i bought a big picture of Buhari and place on my car i also had to change my clothing that day to a long hausa native were called tazarce. we just need peace simple. this do or die politics in the north will only end if we go to true fiscal federalism |

They don't bother with shiiit like tribalism. Most of them are single ethnic countries. When they are not, they find ways of living in harmony without fear of one ethnic group dominating the other. You are on spot. @topic, Tell me one core northern politician that was prosecuted for corruption prior to this democratic era or even as at present and I will agree with you. The average core northerner believes nigeria belongs to them; others are servants to be used & dumped at will. Have you heard of 'born to rule' mentality before? I tell you frankly that most of the corrupt politicians from other regions did join them because they felt that the core northerners cannot be challenged hence, they prefer to gather their own while they can. A saying goes like this: where a crime is not punished it gradually becomes a norm. I know you will doubt me but remember this: Nigeria WILL NEVER get better with this present set-up. Imagine in this 21st century cattles & their owners are empowered by the army to enter and graze anywhere(towns, along rail lines & airports causing accidents, farmyards destroying farmers source of livelihood etc) instead for laws to be enacted confining them to ranches. As long as coup plotters(pioneers of corruption) who are basically from the north are not tried & jailed, corruption CANNOT be reduced talk more of wiping off. @OP, the core northerners do not share thesame vision of a great nigeria with different ppls, culture, religion etc. as you. Presently, an undercover jihad is going on & the army is paying a blind eye. Fulanis are extending down south claiming lands, killing the owners. When the owners speak up, they are killed and if they fight back, soldiers would be despatched against the landowners. Pls, go and research on these personalities; Sir Ahmadu Bello, Hassan Katsina, Murtala Mohammed, Bukar Sukar Dimka, Gideon Orkar, IBB, Sani Abacha. I believe your views will change. |

@ Reference, spot on. I remember watching Channels TV few years ago, when the invited guest quoted Ali modu Sheriff (ex-governor borno and the reason we've boko haram) as saying "I don't care What Lagos based newspapers are saying about me afterall 80% of borno citizens can't read". For pete's sake he was proud saying it. However, I think that a literate north will do 9ja much good and ofcourse I agree with the Op our population's an advantage. |

It is true that when it comes to power , patronage and corruption a group of people comprising of all tribes share the power and the loot but when it comes to aportioning blame , the tribal warriors come out in full force to show how saintly and how deprived their tribes were/are. Tafawa Balewa's government of NNA(Nigerian National alliance) was a coalition government of NPC and NCNC untill the igbo majors first and most violent coup in Nigeria in 1966. @nagoma. Haha, you are trying to pass the buck. Naming people that worked with your leaders. Well,if you have worked in any structured organization, you will know that the leader takes the praise and the blame. if a leader takes the wrong advice and implements it,he's a bad leader. It does not matter whether he did not know the information was faulty. Especially when the fates of millions depends on your decision. I am not a tribalist as you accused me,infact if anything you are the tribalist. I won't shy away because this issue falls within the constructive criticisms and tribalism grey area. And yes,the educated people deserves to lead, any sane society will tell you that. Everyone should be represented but not everyone leads! The PHd you unfortunately criticized should be admired by all of us. I disagree with your assessment of the present administration. Its not the worst neither is it the best. The jury is still out. Do me a favour, tell your leaders to share our vision of a prosperous, peaceful, harmonious and a superpower nation. Properly educate your people in the Quranic and scientific methods. Not the rote learning you call education. |
