Kendlez, what city are you in? I'm speaking to 2 consultant paeditricians and they're saying that they don't think it's a bacterial infection because it should have cleared up by now. One is guessing it's an allergy. But they feel that the antibacterial meds are not be best for it. However, they stressed that it is guess work without seeing your baby. So if you can tell me what city you are, I can ask them to see if they know a good consultant around your area. Please try and answer this quickly because they're not the easiest people to catch and they don't like answering patients whom they cannot see. 5 Likes |

stadora: You have described my symptoms. I have a dust allergy and used to have mild asthma. It runs in my family, so we are all used to it. Anti-bacterial meds won't help. I don't want to mention the meds I take (and yes, there is a children's version of it but I don't want to prescribe without a diagnosis) but speak to your doctor and more importantly, start looking for what is triggering the cough, when does it start. Can you clean the entire house with a damp rag (so the dust doesn't fly around) Or take baby to somewhere else dust free and see if he gets better. The dust mites, mold, cockroaches and perfumed products (even Raid or those pink mosquito papers) in the air could trigger it. Kendlez, please start looking for triggers like dust. one of the consultants i asked mentioned she thought it was an allergy. My eyes would water and i'd be unable to breathe and my nose would be burning inside (it would be runny and bring out mucous), so I would start breathing from my mouth (gasping for air). Your babies sound like me. But you need a confirmation from a doctor. What I'd advise is to make notes of the symptoms and what triggers it, meet up with your doctor and discuss if the baby can be prescribed anti-allergy meds (it is a liquid, sweet actually). You have to sound knowledgable so do your research (Nigerian doctors are used to handle patients who know little about their bodies or medicine so they may want to ignore your suggestions. That's why you have to do your homework). See if you can get a different diagnosis. HTH 2 Likes |

kendlez: They've disappeared again (weird family members ) but why not take all the info I've given you, do your but and then go to the GH and tell them your observations and that they should perhaps make recommendations on allergy meds. |

pjthatcher: You should get some saline nasal drops or nasal spray. It helps sofens the mucus in the nose, and helps them breathe better. I personally prefer the spray to the drops as it seems easier for me to apply. If lo is older than 3 months you can get some olbas oil for children and put a few drops on his bib or the top of his clothes... somewhere he will be able to inhale the vapors as long as its not directly on the skin. Also a few drops of breast milk into the nostrils is said to do the trick as well. Good luck! 1 Like |

pjthatcher: Check for dust in his sleeping area and the house generally. Window nets, carpets and duvets are sometimes the culprits he shouldn't be experiencing stuffy nose in this heat except he's probably inhaling dust frequently. |

Hello mummies in the house. I'm new here and just stumbled on this thread a few days ago. Please I have a question. My baby is 9 weeks old and we had visitors yesterday whose 4 month old baby has ela (not sure what it is in English) My question now is- is ela transmissible? Because suddenly today the side of my baby's hair has fallen off and I feel this is too much of a coincidence. Also, I'd like to attack it head on if that's what it is. What would you advise as best course of treatment? Thank you! |
Re: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by Onegai(f): 9:55pm On May 01, 2016 |
babythug: Sudocrem is fine for most parts of the body except the eye and mouth area. It's a Zinc oxide cream (15% I believe), with other active ingredients. Zinc oxide treats skin ailments like rashes, chilblains etc. Zinc oxide is the main ingredient in powders like Agnesia (which is used for rashes on the body). However, please let's try not to use powder unless necessary (respiratory issues) HTH |
