Your comment reeks of ignorance and negativity! May be I should give you one job so I can have the opportunity to school you in the few hardwoods that I use.

I’m running the numbers to see if I can setup a sawmill. Not my area of expertise though I’m a woodworker.

My concern is if Nigerians will pay extra to get grade lumber.

You won't have to worry about folks paying extra, you are unlikely to meet demand; folks from the Northern part of the country regularly show up here all the time causing scarcity sometimes. Visit the Bodija plank market and talk to the practitioners, I have been buying the saw-milled planks since last year and just paid N4,500 for 4x4 of Orokoro hardwood.

Your challenge will be running the sawmill, procuring the right kind of woods at the right time, dealing with the peculiarities of the raining season, etc.

Thank you, but do you mean I should collect the invoice from him or simply how much he paid for it? He mentioned using Grimaldi..

Hello, what will be the cost to clear a 2021 and 2022 Toyota Highlander via Grimaldi? Trying to help my older neighbor..
Thank you.

So let's say like 5KVA inverter and like 600 maH batteries can comfortably power a 4-5 bedroom duplex? (Not like every appliances would be active at once.)

What do you have in the 4-5 bedroom duplex? Some appliances are like a V8 Tundra, even when they run alone!

Get an audit done first.

Can solar power be used to power ACs (2-3) without having to break the bank?

To use 2-3 ACs, only 2-4 bulbs and maybe 1 TV would be on..

You will break the bank to have solar power for 2-3 ACs, especially if you are gonna run them at night too.

2 ACs will require something around 8Kva inverter and that's roughly about 1.5M for a good one, you will require about 10,000W panels too (30 panels X 300/350W), at about 60k for a good panel, that about 1.8M. You will need nothing less than 40kwh of battery to use 2 ACs at night and that's huge! Somewhere around 12-15M for Li-ion! These figures are not exact, just about but you can see how you have to break the bank, a good bank.
Adding the 3rd AC will make it worse, it is doable if you can afford it.

You still need that energy audit before moving to design for your need.

Please, how much did you pay to get yours 100% active?
Mind telling us what it carries?

Giving the cost won't add any value due to devaluation/inflation and the fact that I designed the system for my need. I am not into solar energy business, just an enthusiast. Below are the main ingredients used for the system.
- Victron Energy Inverter
- BYD B-BOX 13.8KWH 48V Lithium Ion battery.
- 300W LG solar panels
- Victron Energy charge controller
There is a generator, only as backup for the "rainy days".

The system handles everything in the house, including inverter ACs, but energy management is critical with solar system. I use only 6W LED bulbs, freezer programmed to go off at night, etc. Occasional use of water heater and zero use of electric iron. Use of water pump and washing machine during the day only (about twice a week max).

The most important item you need to focus on is the design of a system that will serve your NEED. Please do not spend a kobo without having in your hands a good design that you understand; to get into the design phase, you must conduct an energy audit. Do not buy those systems being sold with claims on capacity and the load they can carry. A bad experience may scar you and chase you away from solar energy.
Energy audit will show you what you currently consume, and enable you trim down your requirements. Solar energy can be expensive if you don't control your use!
With an energy audit, you have the foundation laid out and will know what capacity you want to design for. And you can play around the components based on affordability and other factors, there are many inverters, panels, and batteries out there. Don't do cheap, you will get whatever you pay for.
I never liked lead acid batteries, whether sealed or wet; while wet is better, it's maintenance can be an issue and may not last 3 to 5 years depending on the source. You should not discharge lead acid batteries below 50% so they don't start failing.
Li-ion batteries are expensive but basically worry-free and will allow you discharge down to 10% of battery capacity (90% DoD). They also last longest!

Just wanted to share a high level summary of the basics, there's a well crafted and concise submission on setting out with solar system at Kobocity. You should go read it.

Whatever you do, don't commit funds into it until you understand what you want to achieve. It is an investment and should be treated as one, also make sure to work with someone that has good referees.

Best of luck.

It a one off project but the battery aspect is not one off

How do you mean? The battery aspect is also one-off, especially if you got some great Li-ion batteries.

By the way, you do amazing job! Excellent standard that is uncommon around here.

Before man kpeme, make e at least see wetin wan kill am na.

Since solar is mostly a one off project, it might be worth it...

It is worth it, and you should go for it if uninterrupted power supply matters to you and you can afford it.

I have been 100% off-grid for almost 2 years now, never going back!

Very fictious. Lump sum is the same, the question would have been

Retiree A, kept N120 Million cash and decided to buy annuity that will pay him N1 million per month for 20 years.

Retiree B, kept N50 Million cash and decided to buy annuity that will pay him N1.5 million per month for 20 years.

It is not fictitious, I have clarified the scenario as a non-contributory pension scheme.

Only an idiot will take the second option. Infact this is looks fictitious. There is no way any company can insult a retiree by asking him to choose between these two options angry

Thank you for your response. It is not fictitious, the employee decides which one of the scenarios to take.

There is a template on what workers will get at retirement, workers who earned same salaries and worked for the same length of time, retired at the same time can't have this type of huge disparity.

You need to rephrase your question

The huge disparity is as a result of the choice between taking the gratuity plus lump sum payment with lower monthly pension and opting for gratuity alone but with higher monthly pension.

The "template" supports the scenario, the question is valid.
Investment / Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by igbonla(m): 8:56pm On Mar 11, 2021
emmanuelewumi:

Kindly included the duration of the monthly payments.

An employee can only get 25% of his contribution as gratuity, we need to know the value of their retirement savings when both workers retired.

Your contributions in the retirement savings account should be one of the various plans for retirement, unfortunately that the is biggest savings/Investment of majority of the workers. The retirement savings account is even bigger than the value of their real estate Investments

Apologies for not including the relevant information.

The scenario is for a non-contributory pension, fully funded pension by the company so employees A and B receives the N1 million and N1.5 million per month respectively.

Investor A bought an asset for N1 million in the year 2001 and sold it in 2021 for N20 million, but the asset did not generate any cash flow.

Investor B bought an investment for N1 million in the year 2001 and sold the investment for N10 million in 2021, the investment generated a cash flow of N6 million over a period of 20 years at an average of 300k per annum.

Which of them got a good deal on the long run?

Good one!

Can you share your insight on the scenarios below as it affects a Nigerian worker at the point of retirement.

Employee A took the sum of N120 million as gratuity and lump sum payment, along with monthly pension of N1 million.

Employee B opted for N50 million gratuity only, but with monthly pension of N1.5 million

Which one of them made the "better decision"?

A ghost follower of this thread for a long while, but want to commend @darenyx and @QSFemi for their professionalism and very nice disposition. I contacted both gentlemen and ended up commissioning them for their services, I got seamless experiences that were expeditiously delivered and wished life with Nigerians was that easy!

I picked @darenyx because of the recommendation by @EgunMogaji2 while @QSFemi's reputation precedes him, he is all over the thread dishing out free opinions.

Thanks guys and best of luck in your journey.
