Politics / Periscope Of 2023 Political Punditry by ipasco: 2:01am On Aug 12, 2020
Political gladiators like Lai Mohammed and Babatunde Raji Fashola are most likely to remain relevant in the years to come, should the permutations of Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu presidency fall through.

By then persons like Alhaji Lai Mohammed will be in government for a commulative time of 16 years. And Babatunde Raji Fashola will have a commulative time of 32 years in government inclusive of his years as chief of staff.

Now, most of the Nigeria youth are spending their time and resource watching BBN, but by then they will cry foul and wail blood saying the same set of people have ruling and are recycled.

Wake up now people!!!
Now is the time to plant the seed of tomorrow's greatness.
No further time to waste, now is the time for alignment.

HigherEd:

Interesting question. Christ did not die so your Country can be better. He died to save the individual soul of men. It doesn't matter if Christianity doesn't have any relevance to National growth. Though in many cases it has and that is undisputable.

In the Bible, Nations grew with or without reverence for God. Even the bible acknowledges that Egypt which was an idol worshipping country had a great economy, so was Babylon and the likes. God didn't destroy the Egyptian economy to prove any point to the Israelite. He led them through the wilderness eating manna while the land they left remained in opulence. But in due season they also reached their place of plenty. I don't do comparisons because I know that whether I am in Nigeria or Haiti I would still prosper regardless of the economic state of the country I reside in.

Now If you apply diligence, strategy, vision driven leadership and accountability there would be nothing stopping a country for succeeding. Nothing!

The most powerful days of Britain was actually the era they sent missionaries across oceans to preach the message of Jesus Christ and deliver aid unto the poorest of the poor. That tiny country the size of South West Nigeria controlled territories 50 times bigger and is unarguably stronger then than now. Mind you even with Christianity waning in Europe now, UK or France still has 50,000 plus churches. America today still has 380,000 churches with vibrant evangelical communities. South Korea still remains the nation emitting the largest numbers of missionaries.

The problem with the black man is that we are direction less as a race. You need to know what to hold accountable for what. Less than or about 40% of Nigerians go to church so?? Are we trying to blame the problems of Nigeria on the Church. If the movement of the church was awful it would have sufficiently ruined Europe, NAmerica, Australia even before they could get to this point where some of them are kind of less concerned about the church and her mandate.

Lastly I am sold out to my faith first and my country second. And any nation, culture, tradition and people must be a tool for the advancement of Christianity first and not the other way around.

The Best Army in Africa can be said to be the Army with the overall best multi-spectral warfare capability. Such an Army can perform various type of warfare in different location with sufficient modern military equipment and funding to increase the certainty of total victory.

Every country has an Army or a Land Force meant to defend the territory in case of any threat both foreign and domestic. A nation’s army is the land-based military branch which conducts warfare on land.
A Land-army may also possess aerial platforms if it has an army aviation branch. In most African countries, the army is usually has the highest personnel numerically and bears the ultimate burden of territorial defence. It is usually supported by the nation’s Air Force and Navy.

A standard army should be disciplined and professional when conducting warfare.

Due to the ever present global economic crunch, many nations lack the wherewithal to properly equip its Army with standard war fighting equipment. African military are faced with a unique challenge which is how to balance between equipping for counter insurgency and preparing for conventional warfare. Over the years, conventional battles between African nations have all but ceased and the most recent being the Sudan-South Sudan Heglig Crises of 2012. Instead, asymmetrical and unconventional warfare between nations and non-state actors have taken the limelight.

This is a form of combat that takes place predominantly on land. Land forces usually include various units such as the personnel, the weapons systems and other vehicles.
There are three distinct types of combat units in the army which includes

Infantry
This is the branch of the army that performs combat on foot. They are different from other military personnel whom can also operate on foot like Calvary, Artillery-men and Main Battle Tank operators.
The bulk of an army’s personnel is made up of infantrymen, they bear the brunt of combat and usually suffer greater casualties.

Infantrymen are mostly armed with personal weapons, light weapons; Crew served weapons and Squad weapons. Infantry are always closer to the enemy therefore they enjoy better situational awareness. They could be transported to the battlefield by various means which includes but not limited to amphibious landing, air assault by parachute or helicopter, trucks or armored personnel carriers.

Special Forces and Special Operation Forces falls under infantry however, these capabilities will not be used in ranking our Best Army in Africa.

Armor
Armor play a vital role in today’s land warfare and the Main Battle Tank is a must-have for African Armies. Due to the large expanse of land bordering connecting all African nations, armor has continued to play a major role in African conflicts and quite frankly, it will continue to do so in the next coming years.
Despite declining economic conditions, African nations have continued to rely on armored vehicle for security and protections, investing heavily on it. 70% of tanks designed worldwide from the East to the West have seen service with African nations.

There are other types of armored vehicles like Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV), Armored Personnel Carrier (APC), Armored Fighting Vehicle (AFV), Mine Resistant and Protection (MRAP), armored cars even Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) E.T.C

Artillery
These are large weapons used to fire munitions to far distance. They are the most lethal weapon in any Army’s inventory. Their role involves providing indirect fire support to embattled allied units and to bombard enemy’s position. They can also be used to cover the retreat of allied troops.

In Africa, Owning large amount of artillery piece is an indication of strength and prestige. Historically, artillery pieces have been used to overwhelm enemy forces causing physical and psychological damages.
The primary duty of the Army is to protect and defend the nation‘s territorial integrity against threat both ‘FOREIGN’ and ‘DOMESTIC.’

The general role of the Army can be summarized into this 4 duties:
. Defend the homeland with lethal force (offensive)
. Repel foreign invaders (Defensive)
. Engage enemies in foreign soil (Expeditionary)
. Counter Insurgency and counter terrorism (COIN)

There are so many other facets of land warfare and to be quite honest, it’s very difficult to quantify or rank them all. However, to simplify everything we have chosen three critical areas to rank our contenders.

Experience
This is the amount of time the Army has undertaken combat actions against other enemy ground units. Combat experience is highly important for any military branch sine military dexterity is usually measured through previous battle achievements.

Combat experience is a valuable key factor to determine troop’s reliability. It offers military leaders the ability to strategies on effective training based on what they have experienced on the battlefield. The training regime of all military on Earth is based on one form of lesson learnt during combat operation.

Finally, experience breeds confidence and any experienced soldier has a better chance of survival that a rookie.

Training
If you train hard, you fight easy – Nigerian Army 72nd Army Special Force Infantry Division .

Training is very important in the military, it dictates how the Army fights. The goal of military training is to establish and improve the war-fighting capabilities of soldiers in their different roles. Rigorous training regime prepares the Army’s troops to be ready for any operation.

Training enhances synergy between various units in the Army. It helps build moral and confidence. There are various type of Army training such as Basic infantry training, Marksman training, Leadership training, specialized training etc.

Equipment
As the saying goes, “you are as good as your weapon”. This are the tools the Army use to conduct their duties. It is essential that the Army have capable working equipment so as to facilitate smooth working environment.

Sadly, due to the poor economic outlook of many African nations, they are saddled with inferior weapons systems.

The primary equipment of the Army is the
 Knives & Bayonet
 Small arms
 Grenades & Explosives
 Heavy weapons
 Armored vehicles
 Artillery

Please note that having all these listed does not necessarily means certainty in victory because other factors come into play such as:
 Terrain
 Climatic condition
 Leadership skills
 Communication
 Information
 Electronic Warfare (Jamming)
 Cyber Warfare

cool Tunisian Army
Established in 1831, after the Arab Spring of 2011 (which the Tunisian Military supported), the Tunisian Army has since been on a steady improvement. Some expert says this is due to gradual restructuring and more modern security reforms. The military which has been marginalized during the ex-dictator Zine al Abidine Ben Ali’s regime is now being reinvigorated.

The Tunisian Army was purposely left to rot by the former administration whereas the Presidential Guard and the Interior Ministry Security (a paramilitary force) were being favored. During the Arab spring, the military protected the demonstrators in ousting the dictator - going against his direct order.

cool Tunisian Army

This action pitted the Tunisian Army against the more numerically powerful (both in quality and quantity) National Guard and IMS forces in a battle that raged for several days the Tunisian Army came out victorious –easily.

All You Ever Need to Know About Purchase Orders

Many organizations make the critical mistake of foregoing purchase orders because they perceive the paperwork to be a hassle that slows things down, or simply because they already have a working relationship with vendors.

What are purchase orders?
Why are they important? How do I use them effectively?
This is a critical topic – purchase orders (or POs) and their effective usage are a vital component to any successful business. This post is intended to provide both a clear explanation of purchase order processes for beginners, as well as highlight tips for improving these processes for seasoned finance or procurement specialists.

So…what are purchase orders?
Purchase orders are documents sent from a buyer to a supplier with a request for an order. The type of item, the quantity and agreed upon price are generally (should be!) printed on the purchase order – the more specific the order, the more details included, the more effective the purchase order will be.

When a seller (aka, supplier, vendor, etc) accepts a purchase order, a legally binding contract is formed between the two parties. In addition, the buyer should always clearly and explicitly communicate their requests to the seller so there is no confusion when the purchase order is received.

Also, in the event the buyer refuses payment, the seller is protected because the purchase order is a binding contract between both parties.

Lastly, some commercial lenders will use purchase orders as a reference to provide financial assistance to an organization.

How are purchase orders different from an invoice?
Buyers draft purchase orders. Sellers, on the other hand, prepare invoices, once a payment has been received. In some cases, buyers are provided an invoice, with a payment due date.

Both the purchase order and the invoice contain similar details. The invoice generally references the purchase order number as well, in order to confirm that both documents contain the same information and correspond to each other. The main difference between the two is the technical details found on the purchase order are not included on the invoice.

Example:

John the purchaser has been notified that a department needs a new set of desks. He creates a purchase order with the quantity and specific requirements (size etc.) for the desks.

The company responsible for selling/manufacturing the desks then receives the order. Once they confirm they are able to supply the desks with the required specifications, they approve the PO and take the payment. Once that payment is received, the desks are shipped and an invoice is sent back to John the purchaser.

The invoice confirms the payment was received, or alternatively, the due date of the payment. John then checks the invoice, the purchase order and the shipping slip to ensure that all three match up.

Why are purchase orders important to your business?
Many organizations unwisely forego purchase orders because they perceive the paperwork to be a hassle that slows things down, or simply because they already have a working relationship with vendors. When businesses start small they tend to have an organic purchasing process. Over time, however, that process changes as companies develop relationships with their sellers. Once a company grows and the purchasing demands become more specific, urgent, and/or complex, communication challenges can arise if a purchase order isn’t used or certain details are not correct on the order.

If a buyer receives their order and it does not comply with the desired specifications, if there is no purchase order to use as a reference, it can be a nightmare for both parties to determine where the request went wrong. At that point, it’s likely that both payment and an invoice was sent, which puts both parties in a significantly more complicated legal situation.

A purchase order provides legal clarity and concrete instructions for the seller, as well as a concrete paper trail that can be used as a point of reference for when things go wrong.

Why are manual procedures inefficient?
If your organization is currently using a paper-based procurement process, you are likely creating excessive documents. Most companies will process up to seven documents during a purchasing cycle. This includes requisitions, purchase orders, quotations, order acknowledgments, advice notes, goods received notes, packing slips,  and invoices. That’s a lot of documents to produce – and keep track of – for a single purchase.

As much as good record keeping is vital for effective and efficient purchasing and procurement, there are problems with paper-based records. Paperwork can easily be lost, damaged, or accidentally destroyed. With paper, it’s often hard to spot duplicate requests, purchases, or invoices, or missed transactions – all of which can cost your company time and money. Using paper also requires an efficient and regularly updated filing system which consumes space and man hours in order to work effectively. E-procurement software, such as Procurify, which digitizes the entire procurement process is a great solution to this problem.

How do I integrate purchase orders into my business?
You’re going to have to take a step back and observe how your current business handles purchasing and, subsequently, envision how you’d like to control what employees can buy and how they process these transactions.

Integrating requisitions and PO’s

Assuming your organization doesn’t currently use purchase orders, it is also likely that you’re not managing the requests your employees make when they want to purchase something. Using purchase orders, especially through an e-procurement system like Procurify, will allow for the most control and visibility into where your employees are spending the company’s money.

Purchase requisitions

Requisitions are requests your employees make for materials or items they need to do their job. Many organizations simply allow their employees to email a manager their request and then have that person make the necessary purchases. Adding requisitions creates two important benefits – the ability to manage a budget for employee spending and the opportunity to take advantage of volume discounts on large orders. Most organizations will allocate a budget to a purchase once a requisition has been submitted.

You will need to create a standardized requisition document, which all employees must then use. That standardized procedure ensures that receiving requisitions does not waste your employee’s time. Procurify can automatically create digital requisitions, which can be sent to the appropriate purchaser automatically.

Budgets

As employees begin to draft requisitions, you’ll be able to create an average monthly spend and track what your employees are purchasing. This means you can start analyzing how they use supplies and identify opportunities for savings. An approver will be the person managing the budget. If employees go over budget, the approver may not approve all the requisitions that are not immediately necessary.

Volume discounts

Once employees begin submitting requisitions, the approver can more easily identify purchasing patterns. The approver can then submit bulk orders and request discounts if they are available. If the requests are created digitally, it can significantly reduce processing time because frequently requested items can be added to a catalog from the best supplier at the best price.

*From requisition to purchase order

Once requests have become a standard process in your organization, the next step is to create the purchase order process. This is likely as simple as contacting suppliers and informing them that from now on you’ll be submitting a purchase order before sending payment for goods. The supplier will likely be happy about this because it will significantly help both parties.

Once your approver has some requests that need to be fulfilled, they complete a purchase order and send it off to the seller. The seller, if necessary, will communicate any concerns or issues with the purchase, otherwise, they will ship the order and invoice once payment is received.

Integrating both requisitions and purchase orders will significantly increase your ability to track expenses and remove a lot of headaches associated with employee/company purchasing. Visibility in your company’s spending is critical and this process will help you achieve that.

What do PO’s look like?
Purchase orders are, typically, a standard document. They generally contain company information (name etc.) and shipping details (address), vendor information (name and address), order information (product, price, and quantity), as well as additional details to the vendor. Many companies have a standardized purchase order document with stock information to ensure consistency.

With Procurify, purchase orders look a little different. Instead of being a standard document, purchase orders are generated after a purchaser has compiled all the required orders for a certain vendor. General ledger codes are assigned to each purchase order, ensuring easy integration into your accounting procedures.
