I am new to this forum and its great to met people of the same culture on the internet. My little contribution to this thread and to all who are from isoko is that they should not be ashamed of their language no matter who they get married to or where the live.I am blessed to have parents who did not tolerate any other language in our house other than isoko, despite the fact that we lived in Ughelli where the language is urhobo. Now as an isoko woman married to an igala man,I choose to speak isoko my my 11 month old and the dad speaks his language or english as he chooses.Children can learn 3-4 langauges at the same time,it only depends on how consisitent the adults are . Bottom line is ,if we are going to preserve our culture especially our language we have to speak it and teach it to our children;thats the only way the asians and other large cultures have maintained their identities in the face of western civillisation. |

Re: The Official Isoko Thread! All Isoko People Should Post Here. by komekn(m): 7:18pm On Aug 07, 2009 |
Elenayema The deciding factor is that you are both Christians and if that is the case, culture, tradition, emotion, personal preference, intellect all bows to the word of God. Both my parents are from Isoko and from the same village, we had a Christian culture and an appreciation of Isoko culture and tradition as complements to our conviction in Christ. I am assuming that you are spirit filled, sold out 4Jesus born again believers, that is the elect of God and not academic Christians who allude to Christianity. No problem just be spirit led, equation balanced. In truth the standard of Christ supersedes nationality, race, ethnicity, etc, etc. However, we are in flesh and it’s hard to get rid of the flesh sometimes. The key is to know your man in spirit, mind and body (when you don marry). Culture is constantly evolving and it is hard to answer your question specifically also we sometimes make up our own cultures, so a bit more detail pls. Ifyalways, Liftdone, Ono, Waaaaaaado |
