Subsidy: Govs turned against me – Jonathan

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has claimed that some governors turned against him after agreeing with him to remove fuel subsidy.

The removal of the subsidy on January 1 and the resultant increase in fuel pump price from N65 to N141 led to a nationwide strike and demonstrations across the country.

Jonathan at a workshop in Abuja on Monday, asked the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission to sensitise Nigerians to the planned increase in electricity tariff from June 1. He said he would not want a repeat of the subsidy removal episode.

Jonathan said, “I think the Governor of Benue State then suggested that no, that there could be conflicts in some states and that governors should be allowed to take charge.

“At the end of the day, by the day we announced the deregulation, almost everything was on my head. Everything was Jonathan to the extent that the House of Representatives had to meet on a Sunday to discuss it and it became an issue.

“At a point, some of the governors (I will not call the names) who participated in pressurising me, started shooting back.”

He recalled that he initially planned to send delegations to the states to sensitise people ahead of the subsidy removal but he was advised against it based on the argument that such a body would work in parallel with the states.

He therefore advised the NERC to properly sensitise the public ahead of the hike in electricity tariff increase.

The President said “But I said even if they will cut off my head, it is my responsibility. What I am saying is that if you don’t have robust advocacy, by the time we get to that June 1, the civil society will come and say they have never heard it.”

He regretted that when the civil society kicked against the subsidy removal, even governors who were instrumental in the decision turned against him.

He warned that if enough advocacy work was not done on the planned increase in electricity tariff, members of the civil society would return to the trenches and oppose the move as they did against subsidy removal.

He said, “On the issue of tariff, I think we agreed on June 1 but I am not sure that we are having robust advocacy.”

Lol!
Oshiomole didn't join the other ACN governors though. That really gave me respect for him as a man of his words.

I have never seen a more reetarded president on this earth who gives excuses and seeks to shift blame for every action

today its the governors who advised you remove subsidy?

What a Retardeeen

Yeah, he might have missed the memo.

Fashola caused the most shock, especially as he was the chief promoter of subsidy removal.

Fashola was the head of the committee of governors that first recommended it to the FG. But in an acrobatic move of dazing proportions, he became the chief lover of Ojota park.

You guys are just incredible, Fashola guaranteed the right of people to protest, you could see it in his body language that he supported the subsidy removal, where GEJ lost him was to send soldiers to Lagos without his consent, GEJ needs to learn how to play politics and stay on the side of those who give him tacit support. GEJ also needs to have some grey matter, he left leprosy and was curing ring worm.

Genuinely scratching my head at the point of this news. Is it to create sympathy or what exactly?? Because following the corruption that trailed the so called money savings from the subsidy removal, looking for sympathy feels rather audacious. When people see you as achieving then they would be more willing to indulge you but I'm afraid right now he just sounds like a narcissist. But hey, he did not ask for this to go in the papers I guess . . . . . .so can't really blame him for that, this was for those who attended whatever conference it was to swallow and not for national consumption (the only way it doesn't seem so pathetic)
Re: Subsidy Removal: Jonathan & Back-Stabbing Governors by egift(m): 7:54am On May 08, 2012
The worm is looking for pity. Ain't giving any. He knows it was a bad policy, yet he agreed and now want some sympathy. Jona, everything ends on your table - you are a spineless leader. Always prostrating before your gang with policies against Nigerians.

And here, uncooked Kanda and his thugs will want us to believe Governors in opposition parties are the majority. How many PDP governors sided with the people against the horrible policy, I guess that will not matter - bunch of lepers - keep plaguing the place.

Beaf please don't start that crap here this morning, Fashola suggested it to . . . And we all know who pursued the subsidy removal with all their might to the extent of maiming innocent citizens and blackmailing tinubu and close associates.

He is looking for sympathy which is a bad one because having seen the subsidy probe reports, no one in his/her right mind will pity him
Re: Subsidy Removal: Jonathan & Back-Stabbing Governors by sirjec(m): 9:28am On May 08, 2012
Fashola never did anything wrong. It is a spirit of sportsmanship to allow the people to protest. The protest was against the government which GEJ happens to be the head. GEJ was supposed to explain to the protesters that it was the agreement of all the governors with him but he didn't. I never saw anything wrong with what happened either from the governors side, masses side, or president side. Everybody did what was right. My only plea now is that they pass PIB and prosecute the subsidy regime defaulters

he is not looking for pity, he wasn't addressing the nation so don't think he was talking to you.
Price of ppower is about to be increased so he is tring to avoid a re-occurence of the subsidy protest by refering to the negligence played by the governors in january on an issue they all agreed upon.

I CAN'T JUST TAKE YOUR LIES JUST BECAUSE YOU TOLD IT.
WHERE ARE YOUR EVIDENCES?
ALL DECISIONS ARE MADE BY YOUR PDP DOMINATED GOVERNOR'S FORUM.
OR HOW WOULD 5 GOVERNORS HAVE WON IN THE MIDST OF 36?
BE SINCERE WITH YOURSELF FOR ONCE.

NOT HATRED PER SE.
THEY ARE ALREADY BLINDED BY THE BAGS THEY DO CARRY HOME JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE POLITICAL JOBBERMEN AND JOBBERWOMEN.
LEAVE THEM ALONE.
IF NIGERIA CAN EXPERIENCE THE CHANGE THAT LAGOS HAS WITNESSED IN THESE SIX YEARS, I CAN CHOSE TO SUPPORT PDP.
BUT THEY HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR 12 YEARS OF RULE. SO HOW WILL A SOUND-MIND COME TO TELL ME WHAT IS ABSTRACT.
I LOVE PHYSICS FOR ITS PRACTICALITY(MY BEST SUBJECT + MATHEMATICS), BUT HAS NIGERIA BECOMES CHEMISTRY WHICH TALKS MORE IN THE ABSTRACT?
I AM OPEN TO SUPPORT A PARTY WITH RESULT, FOR NOW IT IS ACN IN LAGOS.

The retardeen simply wont seize to amaze me. The govs earlier supported based on the lies they were poisoned with from Ngozi, Madueke and Sanusi. they were told if they dont support it Nigeria will crash and no additional money to share from federation account.

The civil society stood up and gave the govs the antidotes to these poisons and after being cured they realized they were being foooled by the retardeen. They soon realized that one of the reason why they have few money to share monthly was because NNPC with the express permission from Madueke (retardeen's minister)has been involved in a lot of fraudulent practices as regards the federation account. The antidote is even so powerful that some are even doubting if there is subsidy at all.

The govs are much more enlighten now also with the help of the House of Rep. This explains why the Retardeen is currently Mad.

Always complaining about one thing or the other.
Doesn't want to take responsibility for his actions
Yet won't want to provide the names of people.
When will GEJ grow some balls to do the right thing.

AND MOST OF YOU INSULTING THE PRESIDENT WILL CLAIM TO BE EDUCATED FOLKS? "RETARDEEN, WORM, DUMBFUCK, ..." ALL MANNER OF INSULTIVE WORDS TO DESCRIBE THE PRESIDENT OF YOUR NATION! AND YOU EXPECT EXTERNAL PARTIES TO RESPECT YOUR COUNTRY?

HOW MANY OF YOU WERE OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER WHAT THE PRICE OF TELEPHONE CALLS WHERE BEFORE GSM AND WHAT IT WAS INCREASED TO BEFORE GSM PHONES STARTED SELLING?

BEFORE THE GSM REVOLUTION, PHONE CALLS WERE PRICED AT N10/MIN BY NITEL(THE PHONE NETWORK SERVICE WAS AS BAD AS NEPA IS TODAY). OBJ GOVT INCREASED IT TO N50/MIN(500% UPWARD REVIEW) AND THEN THE GSM REVOLUTION STARTED. PEOPLE COMPLAINED AND SCREAMED BACK THEN. WHO IS COMPLAINING TODAY?

TRULY, THERE ARE EITHER TOO MANY YOUNG PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM OR TOO MANY PEOPLE WHO LACK WISDOM AND WHO CANNOT LOOK BACK, BEFORE THEY LOOK FORWARD.

TIME WILL ALWAYS TELL IN ALL THINGS.
