Just Finished Marking WAEC. I Cry For Our Future. by juwoonn(m): 4:42pm On Jun 30, 2014
As we conclude this year's June/July WAEC marking, I cry for the future of these students.
I marked 645 scripts in Economics for some Onitsha schools and only 2 candidates scored above 40/80 in paper2. One scored 45 and the other 48 while more than 80% scored below 20. Some 2/80, 1/80 despite my simple marking. Honestly like 3 candidates wrote only "PLEASE HELP ME" in their answer booklets.

One thing I noticed is that all the centers I marked are public school centers. What has gone wrong with our public schools?

A lot of professors in Nigeria today were products of public schools, our president and most Governors are products of public schools, but why have they taken their children abroad, to private schools and destroy the public schools for the less privileged.

I recently helped a friend in it, you should mention the copied works, not that the students copying dey vex me, they cannot even copy. Any mistake you see in a script will be repeated in the next 20 scripts.

It's awful

I forgot to mention that. Almost everybody in a center writes the same thing, in fact a candidate forgot the photocopy of one of the answers in his/her booklet (teacher involved malpractice) and another forgot a page of the keypoint in the booklet. The education sector is really deteriorating by the year.

Na today? E don tey! It's really awful! Public schools are just glorified home-teaching centres! Heck! Being taught at home seem to be more better than being taught in a public school. Our leaders have failed us!

It is time WAEC changed to multiple choice questions only, with electronic marking
This method is so subjective and archaic not to talk of the possibility of people's answer sheets being used to wipe poo poo inadvertently while in the marker's possession.
Imagine someone admitting to helping someone else mark WAEC? shocked shocked shocked shocked
Nigeria Jaga jaga

I'll also blame teachers, that's why many are running away from test. I got to Lagos before I knew that the syllabus is being change every 4 year. But I used my sister textbooks which she used in 1988 in 2000 for my WAEC. Thank God I passed after 2 sittings.

gringrin also went through some of the scripts my cousin marked......chai wish i had taken picturees!!!!!

there was this candidate that could pass for aphotocopy machine or an artist.she basically drew everything from another candidate 3 sits from hers

the other one had clean handwriting but his paper was very rumpled
the female wrote everything!(her pi appeared as double T) written seperately

alpha and beta signs na diegrin not to mention the graph that had the same shape but was out of rangegrin

set bracket was drawn in a very weird way
to the extent that she even copied the roughwork the boy did on his last(empty page) every dot!

construction work was very 'free handed'gringrin

very disappointing!!!

I used to mark the physics scripts! Its a pathetic situation. Even when it is obvious that they are copying from same source, most students find it difficult to copy the right things!

Then when you mark the physics practical scripts, you will just weep for the country as the students can't even plot a simple graph even with the table of values supplied to them.

I tell you, its a pathetic situation!

There's no way to help a student with an empty script! There are those WAEC employs to cross-check the scripts submitted by the markers. How u wan help someone that submitted an empty script? Will you fill the answers for him and then mark it?

Hnmmm,we are really sinking.
So bad, wish my kid sister will pass her‘s.
It‘s so shameful, even our undergraduates and so claimed graduates are far worst.
Blame no man,but our youths who are so lazy to read. All they are good in is how to make money so fast with their arms folded,or how to recruit boyfriend‘s(the ladies).
The education sector is dead, right from the minister of education.
