I was just reading a post on Nairaland some minutes ago where the topic was on what constitutes a God-fearing individual. Someone commented adding that he/she is an atheist and that got me wondering. I have been seeing so many atheists on social media in Nigeria and it bothers me why there are so many of them nowadays. Are people now saying that there is no God? Do people mean that they don't believe in the creator of the universe? How did they come into existence if they don't believe in God. God created us all and this is what the Bible says. What is it with all these atheists? I want to understand why anyone would come to the conclusion that there is no God. It baffles me seriously. I need answers.

I used to think that Nigeria was filled with many religious people, that atheism was a very strange concept in Nigeria until I saw them on this forum. I must say I was very surprised but... go figure

It bothers you that there are now many atheists in Nigeria?

I guess this is the part of religion that I have never been able to fully understand, the part that has remained a mystery to me.

Does that fact that someone else does not believe in your god harm you, diminish you or diminish your god in any way?
Would it be equally ok for me to feel disturbed because you, as I am guessing, does not believe in Santa Clause?

How about the Flat Earth Society, does it disturb you that some people still believe that the Earth is flat?

Well , it baffles us that in this day and age, people still live their entire lives anchoring their worldview on the stone age superstitions about an invisible skyfairy

Some people read the whole bible from start to finish then begin to question their beliefs, some begin to ask questions when they begin to realize that God dose not answer their prayers while some afterany years of bei.g religious begin to think outside the box of religion and question all they have been taught.

They are many other reasons why but these are just some. As a typically bought up mind conditioned christian you will find it very hard to understand why people are not religious like you. But let me ask you one question dose God Answer your prayers? If yes do you hAve proof?

Because humans are naturally born as Atheists at birth just before the brainwashing and indoctrination start. It is only natural for humans to return to default mode (after years of indoctrination) when they begin to see and realise the untruths of Religion.This can only happen when the fear of stigmatisation and possible assasination(for apostasy) is ruled out.

Give Nigerians an anonymous online platform like Nairaland but this time offline and watch all the atheists troop out.

I really don't think that anyone believes in god, especially the people who claim and shout that they do, such as the op.
Just looking at the reasons he gives for believing god should actually tell you that what he has are lots of doubt, but plenty of hope that there is a god.

The op's words that he finds the growing atheists movement disturbing is proof that his beliefs stand on no real pillars, no foundations, except the palpable fear.

The mere expression of religious faith is a mask for the expression of fearful doubts about the existence of god.
The belief in god is has become a psychological need, a dope fix for the majority that are not mentally strong enough to deal with existential realities.

Most of them will profess Christianity in real life. Don't be decieved; some of them still attend Church services. They play gospel songs, attend Church weddings, do Church naming, burials, etc.

I can bet anything on the fact that most of them have Bibles in their homes, they celebrate Christmas, fill Christianity on important forms and documents.

Some of them were forcefully ejected from the Church after series of attrocities. Some stole Church funds; on post-jail terms, they joined Nairaland in order to make ther grievances known to those that care I have seen many cases

Some, especially the females, became atheists because their "loving" atheist boyfriends convinced them, and you know age is not on their side. You know women are susceptible...

Some left the Church because they felt God will buy them private jets after sowing few change

Reading the above, I can also see that most Nigerians, especially the growing young, have come to see and associate religion and faith with un-intelligence , irrationality and mild insanity.

The reason is very simple to put the REAL FAITH of believers into work.
If your care is not taken, you yourself will become Atheist if you've never had personal encounter with Jesus because the Bible says "Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit." 1 Cor 12:3

Infact we have many Atheist inside the Church today, people who are just going to Church for parent's or Pastor's or environment or personal gain sake.

I wouldn't say we are 'so many'. There may have been a surge in number, and this surge may be ongoing, but we are far from 'so many'. However just one of us is 'too many' for you, so I get where you are coming from.
