This one na recently o. This Eid Celebration that just passed. I gave my tailor my ankara material to sew normal buba and trousers for me one week to Sallah and I paid him right there to avoid rushing and any stupid excuses. I left and gave him all the time in the world. ONE day to sallah I went to his shop and he had finished my trouser and had designed the buba. All that was left was to couple the buba and my cloth don gallant. I gave him the thumbs up sign. Instinct just say make I test-drive my trouser na hin I wear am o. Hmmm, tailors, mechanics and carpenter behave almost the same way.

What of Governors, Ministers, Senators and Presidents ?

Aren't they also as disappointing if not more disappointing ?

Hmmmm. I used to change tailors frequently because I can't stand their deceit. After I abandoned my fabrics with my last tailor, n refused to go back for them for nearly a year, now all I sew my Aso ebi as is only iro n buba or just two wrappers. n any road side tailor can sew those.. After all it's only d ubiquitous Aso ebi I need tailors for anyway Now I have peace of mind grin
My humble submission

Solo the tailor! embarassed

I can ne'er forget solo the tailor cry

I gave solo some yards of white material to sow me a white shirt for my school uniform back then cos I didn't like buying the ones our school tailors made.

This was 3weeks to resumption and solo had all the time in the universe to complete this work and even loosen the threads and sew it again.

I was to go on saturday and I came on thursday to collect my clothes,,only for solo to tell me that his mother had been sick and he went to the village to see her.

He said he was almost through and that I should come the next day. Little did I know that solo had not even cut the material talk more of sewing.

I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and come on saturday to collect my clothes. Solo was not around when I came,,only his apprentice. The apprentice gave the clothes that solo had sewn for me,,probably overnight.

I decided to test the clothes,,before leaving the shop...Lo and behold cheesy
One hand was longer than the other one,,the other shirt was pure sleeveless. Material was not enough for that one,,prolly cos he had wasted the material.

I left the clothes there angrily and went back home to manage the old uniforms I have.

Later on I heard he was arrested by another customer because he sold her material to another lady.

But solo's shop is still erect and he's still working and having customers shocked

That guy must be using some sort of jazz undecided
Jazz? For where? Other people change tailors cos one disappointed only to find out they are all the same

so honored to be called out.

Well, tailor's disappointment is the reason I hate wearing native clothes.

I remembered when I was still young, asper Christmas time, you should know how the family sew "uniform" aso-ebi.

The tailor sewn for everybody, except mine,as if he had me in mind. I cried, cried, and cried that I slept off on Xmas day,can you imagine.

Since then,I detest Native wear like hell..Ready made all the way.

The story of Abubakar comes to mind when I saw this topic, dude was supposed to sow my uniform I would resume school with in about 3 weeks very much plenty time right (lol), I actually noticed something was wrong when he was taking measurements, tried explaining how and what style I want it to be he kept saying he understands and I thought yeah he must have been doing this a long time to know what's up very wrong, he said I should come a week later I showed up, his colleague said he's out of town but dropped message that I should check back next week, came again he said he's done but needs to iron it that I should come later, came back when he asked the shop was closed now its few days to resumption I began to panic cos since then he wouldn't pick mumsy's call, we had to set spies to catch him unawares he brought the "uniform" lol if it was qualified to be called that it looked like Fela's tailor was having a bad day, the trousers was so tight at the waist area my junior boy was squashed to one side and the legs very fat I could sow another one with them, the shirt was something else picture Fela's tight shirts hanging at the midriff, it so funny I couldn't get angry. I skipped school for a week so as to get another one cos I already outgrew the old ones. Tailors, mechanics, shoe makers they all act the same one disappointment or the other.
Phone repairers also fall in that category

It's not true o. I visited one tailor in new York that did me so wrong, it's painful to think about it. And he overcharged me because I dealt with him without my mother. It's the same, electricity or not.

Of course New York tailors will not have electricity issues. I was referring to Nigerian tailors.

Really? That's surprising! That's why I hail Nigerians, doing so much with very little resources.

Infact,I believe all tailors are the same with the response of people to this topic, had so many bad experience with tailors, and one of such goes as thus

Needed to change my uniform after relocating to a new environment, asked people around and they reffered me to this man opposite my compound.when I got there I gave him my cloth and told him I want a nicely sowed and fitted cloth,he charged me 3k and I gave him 2.5k immediately, he took my measurement and asked me to come back in 2weeks,.......fast forward>>>>>>>>>>> on appointment date he smiled at me and brought out my cloth from a large ghana must go sack..(for my mind I dey smile say dem go hear with this my new uniform ) wetin i first notice for the white cloth wey i give am na how the cloth come dirty like say na on top floor him dey take sow am ,I later decided to test the cloth in his presence before leaving lo and behold, the shirt na advance fitted wey long reach my knees, the long sleeve hand after buttoning dey long pass my hand sotey you go nearly mistake my white for Cele garment....come see the kind look wey I give am say na wetin be dis........na im the guy dey stammer say make I no vex say im go amend am make I come back......me: come back for where?abeg if you no want trouble jejely give me my money back and keep the celestial garment to yourself.

Yes. My favorite Lagos tailor uses a pedal sewing machine and an iron with hot coals, and her work is flawless and punctual.

However, the New York tailor was also Nigerian... but lazy. You have to find the right person.

Lol @ people's experiences. All tailors are just the same that I decided to go learn how to sew. Still learning so I can sew for just me...

Until then, I will just go and sew with a new tailor each time. At least being a new customer will make them want to please you. They tend to please you with the first two times you go to them afterwards, you will be "customer" that they can afford to disappoint.

FREAD HAS BEEN MY TAILOR FOR CLOSE TO TEN YEARS,
BUT WHEN HE TELL U STOP RUN AND WHEN HE SAYS RUN, MY DEAR STAND LIKE POLE.
THIS GUY IS DISAPPOINTMENT PERSONIFIED, SO TEEEE MY MUM IN THE VILLAGE ALWAYS ASK AFTER THAT MY TAILOR THAT
ALWAYS DISAPPOINT AND I WILL NEVER LET HIM GO!
I WISH HE IS READING THIS MASSAGE OR ANYONE THAT KNOWS HIM VERY WELL COS HE IS STILL WITH MY MATERIALS SINCE NOVEMBER LAST YEAR, THE WORST PART IS THAT HE HAS STOPPED PICKING MY CALL, PLEASE IF YOU KNOW HIM TELL HIM THAT WHEREVER I SEE HIM HE WILL REGRET EVER KNOWING ME. HE STAYS IN PORT HARCOURT, HE IS FROM DELTA STATE, THE WORST STILL IS THAT HE HAS PARKED OUT OF HIS HOUSE AND OUT OF HIS STORE.
THERE WAS A TIME I GAVE MY CLOTH TO HIM AND HE PROMISED TO DELIVER IN THREE WEEKS BUT AFTER FOUR MONTHS AM YET TO GET MY CLOTH, I CALLD HIM TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPND, HE REFUSED TO PICK I USED ANOTHER NUMBER HE PICKED AND TOLD ME MY CLOTH IS READY, I WENT TO HIS STORE HE WAS NOT THERE, I CALD HIM HE TOLD ME HE WENT TO ABA TO COME BCK THE NEXT DAY BUT I DID NOT BELIEVE HIM, BUT I TOLD HIM AM LEAVING TO COME BCK THE NEXT DAY. I THEN GAVE HIS NUMBER TO A FRIEND TO CALL HIM AND TELL HIM THAT SHE BROUGHT CLOTHES TO HIS STORE BUT THE PLACE WAS LOCKED, LOO AND BEHOLD HE TOLD HER HE WAS NEAR-BY THAT SHE SHOULD WAIT HE WILL SOON BE WITH HER. I HIDE SOMEWHERE AND IN THE NEXT 5 MINTS FREAD WAS AT HIS STORE! I WAITED FOR HIM TO OPEN THE STORE, WHEN HE WENT IN HE STARTED TRYING THE LADY'S NUMBER I THEN WALKED IN AND TOLD HIM NOT TO WORRY HIS HEAD THAT IT WAS A TRAP - HE NEARLY FAINTED. HE HAS NOT EVEN CUT MY MATERIAL IT WAS STILL IN THE BAG I BROUGHT IT WITH. I SWORN THAT I WILL NEVER GIVE ANY CLOTH TO HIM, BUT WHAT WILL I DO I STILL WENT BACK BECUASE HE IS THE BEST TAILOR I HAVE EVER HAD, WHENEVER I WEAR CLOTHS HE MADE PEOPLE ALWAYS ASK IF IT WAS ALREADY MADE, NO ADJUSTMENT, BEST STYLES, BEST CONBINATIONS ETC. BUT HE IS NOT STRAIGHT FORWARD!

I once had a tailor who had an abandoned deep freezer where he used to store up people's fabric (Fabric Morgue)!
Just forget that fabric once it is kept in that deep freezer, becos u would come back the next year and find out that he had made a beautiful dress for 'Jane' with your fabric. The worse is when you see the fabric, it would have developed 'beards'! #maturitylevel

Lalasticlala and dygeasy you both forgotten the apprentices. Okay here i go

Location: Bola Tinubu Model Market, opp Water b/stop, Ipaja.

Motive for posting: Just my observation(s)

Time: last year till say Feb 2014

(in Bovi accent)

Now Dayo aka D1 'na my guy' grin

he worked as an apprentice in the market, we became pals due to constant Pes @ Ozone cyber cafe.(i used to flood him like.....)

i dreaded his boss cos i knew the day he newly open shop and before 3months, sacks filled with clothes was taking space(unfinished work)

but what bugged me was this.....

I would arrive the cafe anyday, anytime and then D1(like 17, 18yrs) would come in confirm ankara material/trad wear(the skill used in sewing it is high class. Those ones with polo, armless,)

D1 didnt have cash enough. Later i discovered he was using 'left-over material' in sewing confam cloth for himself.( the types that would make u turn back and photograph in memory-color, design and all)

i counted like 45 diff clothes on D1 till feb= 45 diff lace/tradwear/buba,soro that customers were ignorant if they remained or not. So D1 see it, and gbam he is on the machine, sewing swagalicious clothes from people's hard earned cash.

Not to talk of the day he wore suiy-ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

i jelos that dat wan become tailor. grin grin D1 D1!!
