He doesn't lose anything if he is impeached. His tenure will end within few months and he will be sworn in as Sokoto State governor by same May 2015 God willing.

Ok, at worst, he will lose speakership position between now and May - 7 months.

What do you say about Femi Pedro being impeached as Deputy Governor by Ogbeni Ojuyobo's LASHA even after he resigned a few weeks to elections

it is quite disheartening that these rich politicians do not know the basics of democracy.

He has every right to move to APC whether it's the minority or not.

What ever happened to his fundamental human rights? It is wrong to impose or force him to resign because he's switching allegiance.

Well, I must say I am very disappointed at the so-called national leader of the peoples "democratic" party.

Threatening a fellow party member with impeachment is the same as stooping as low as the insurgents (boko haram) who give little or no choice to the Nigerian citizens.

That's if you are defecting from PDP right? The last time I checked, if an ondo governor defects from lp to PDP, he takes over the structure of the party and even †ђξ lawmakers of that lp defect and don't loose seat

He has to.

if he sincerely believes in APC, he should test his power by campaigning under the APC against PDP.... its not when you win under PDP then you switch to APC...

PDP should stop tolerating nonsense..... this is the right thing to do.
OKDnigeria:
The national leadership of the Peoples
Democratic Party is pushing for the resignation of
the Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Mallam Aminu Tambuwal over his defection to the
APC.
Already, the members of the National Working
Committee of the party had met with PDP leaders
in the House concerning the defection.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief
Olisa Metuh, disclosed this in an interview with
journalists in Abuja.
He said, “After a thorough consideration of the
matter, the NWC came to a conclusion that the
Hon. Speaker, as a responsible elected officer,
knows full well what is needful and honourable of
him since his new party is in the minority.
“We are not unmindful of the fact that Hon.
Tambuwal became Speaker on the platform of the
PDP as the political party with the majority of
seats in the House of Representatives and that
this incontrovertible fact has not changed.”
It was gathered that the party might be pushing
for his impeachment if he refused to resign.

Tambuwal will not resign! He will remain Speaker under the the ''doctrine of necessity''-the very doctrine that the House stood on to make Jona Acting President. Besides,Governor Mimiko just defected to PDP without resigning his office as governor; why should the speaker resign? Any attempt to impeach him will precipitate crisis of immense proportion.

Tambuwal is resigning speakership position and not membership of d house of rep. It could b likend to chairman of governors forum resigning (if he defects to opposition) but stil maintain his governorship seat. Now u see, dats not d case wit Mimiko
Re: Defection: PDP Demands Tambuwal's Resignation by abbakacici: 11:10pm On Oct 28, 2014
how speaker is select/elected

1) few days before swearing political parties has meeting in Abuja to selected people who nominated for principal this is done between parties lady and few high ranking member ( returning members/ former party leaders etc) they usually choose one person per post if impossible they selected two people for one post.

in 2011 PDP zone speaker to south west and D. speaker to north east for the post of speaker PDP decide on HON. ISIAQ AKINLADE A. (longest serving PDP member in south west and MULIKAT O. AKANDE-ADEOLA another high ranking member)

2) high ranking members go back to their small caucus ( group) this is usually state example house representative members of imo will have meeting to them about the party decide and later form a bigger caucus usually zone e.g south west.

in 2011 during this caucus MULIKAT O. AKANDE-ADEOLA was choose over HON. ISIAQ AKINLADE A. because
a) President want her in order to meet his 35% female representation in the government
b) she is muslim who can speak fluent hausa therefore she can easily to sold to northerner in the hausa ( her first interview before the swearing was BBC hausa)

During this caucus the north west and north central felt left out of sharing formula therefore they decide to revolt and nominated tambuwal

3) negation with opposition party and party member who lose out, this is usually done by promising them good/lucrative committee

Unfortunately for MULIKAT O. AKANDE-ADEOLA , Tambuwal caucus were better in negotiating with CPC and ANC, and bribed better in term of committee

4) nomination and voting after swearing in.

Therefore PDP members in Tambuwal caucus and other members that he bribed with good Committee will still be loyalty to him because him being remove might cost them their lucrative committees because the new speaker will want settle his boys too

Tambuwal doesn't need to resign, there is no law which states that the Speaker of the House of Representatives must come from the majority party in the house. Nigeria doesn't operate a parliamentary system.

This is another classic case of bitting the finger that fed you. Nevertheless, political moles should be allowed to go, but political promiscuity and rascality should be discouraged.

Who fed who?

Majority of the people that voted for him as speaker in 2011 were ACN, CPC reps and and others from PDP that refused to listen to their leadership who wanted Mulikat Akande.

He won the election of his constituency on his personal strength and reputation not because of PDP. PDP has never been popular in Sokoto state, it is personalities like Tambuwal and Wammako that gave them some influence.
Re: Defection: PDP Demands Tambuwal's Resignation by Nobody: 11:30pm On Oct 28, 2014
modhream:

Actually, the Supreme Court in rulings on the Ladoja n Peter Obi impeachment cases have interpreted that n related sections to mean ALL members of the particular house. No shortcut

Well, the impeachment of the executive and the legislative arm of government are different thing and they were worded differently in the constitution

For Governor or deputy governor

sec 188 (4)
A motion of the House of Assembly that the allegation be investigated shall not be declared as having been passed unless it is supported by the votes of not less than two-thirds majority of all the members of the House of Assembly.

For president and vice

sec 143 (4)
A motion of the National Assembly that the allegation be investigated shall not be declared as having been passed, unless it is supported by the votes of not less than two-thirds majority of all the members of each House of the National Assembly.

However, for legislative arm, the wording didn't include all. Provided the house form a quorum ie one-third of the members, they can carry out the impeachment.

Except otherwise, this is my understanding
Re: Defection: PDP Demands Tambuwal's Resignation by kasiem(m): 11:32pm On Oct 28, 2014
The PDP has shown its maturity in the way it handles controversial issues unlike the rascally way the major opposition we have in the country does their. When there was a minor controversy arose in the river state house of assembly we saw how they handled issue resorting to attempted murder because they thought being in the majority is an avenue to be rascally to the level they want and just recently we are witnessing the persecution the members of the PDP are suffering in the hands of APC controlled house but a recent event which would've given PDP the opportunity and power of paying back just came up and the PDP without making any major news out of it has decided to plead with tambuwal to do the needful which shows a strong sense of maturity on their part. But it's funny how tambuwal would want to eat his cake and have it, he left the party that made him what he is and still want to enjoy the fruits of that party. Without being reminded does he think that he would be renounce PDP without making any sacrifice for the atonement? Right from the word go, this man called tambuwal has been fighting gej because the man is not from the north and he thinks that the best thing to do is to jeopardise our collective interest with the way he tries frustrating gov't policies with his legislative powers. The Apc are now rejoicing that they've gained with his defection to their party without truly know that a day will come when they leopard will truly show its color. His insubordination is their gain today but lets watch and see whether he will lose this antecedent in APC.
