@Inglish Teechar why are you ranting over this thread?can you read and digest what ovamboland posted and tell us which is a better alternative.
let's be objective for once,we are all out for renewable energy but this gesture is it sustainable in the long run?I think we have reach a stage wherby we should have a sustainable plan of development in this nation and for the records am not anti GEJ.

9.3 Billion naira?! Darn! I'm sure our final year engineering students can research & produce something way better than this; why not encourage them by investing in their research? I only hope this is not true cos if it is, then every iota of respect I have for GEJ is gone!

It is not the federal governnent that need deliverance it is you and the idiotic youths of this country that need deliverance. Now it is a south african that is using their God given brain to invent stoves for us while the youth of this country will sit down at home and complain about everything. What is wrong with you people, cant you use your brain to think positively and get yourselves out of poverty?

sometimes i wonder what positive thing the youth of this country is doing to help the situation of this country. The only thing they are good at is to make complaining a full time job. Idiots.

When typing sir, please always endeavour to use your God given brain. It actually cost you nothing and I'll pretend I didn't see that insult. Is it not the same cooking stuff that can be fabricated in Aba while the FG could come up with a contest researching how to effectively minimize the usage of fuel whilst producing more heat and reducing the soot from the stove but No! They prefer importing even our economy isn't stable or you want to tell me that you haven't heard about innovations by various youngsters but tend to get discouraged because the govt do not care about youth development. The country you're talking about isn't it because their Govt do encourage them?

This is a typical example of what I'm talking about:
Anyway, I'm done with you
sunnshyn:
I totally understand the motive behind this....

Truth be told, I can manufacture a close alternative to this...very simple and easy process. All we need is majorly ethanol and some additives.. I was opportuned to work and is still friends with another CEO who manufactures this cooking gel plus stove in SA.

It was part of my Youwin application, for some reasons I didn't understand why my idea wasn't chosen, but now I understand...9billion to SA?? For real? For what? How much does the stove and gel cost?

From research I know for a fact that we have other indigenous companies who makes these things, the stove itself isn't even rocket science to manufacture. Any good fabricator can do these things competently, trust my Aba brothers... I'm kinda disappointed sha..

Another thing is - our research team are great. Nigeria have very good researcher in diaspora. Go to any school in SA and u'll find teams of Nigerian researchers. From engineering to food science and all...but these people aren't motivated enough, they do their researches depending on yearly stipends(bursary) from their host schools and that's where it ends. None bring what they found or improved on back home. Why? Mentality. FG won't even take them seriously...smh! I'm upset.

Nigerians and its government always thinking stuffs outside Nigeria is superior...

It's only Nigeria that I knw so far that wouldn't support their own stuffs...Remember there's 24hrs electricity in most part of South Africa, yet people tried to develop ways to have clean cooking methods..imagine if electricity was epileptic like it is in Nigeria?? I'm sure South Africans would have developed ways to create their own electricity using different methods, and I'm not referring to importing generators please, yet their government supports them.

We all can do it...most times the solutions to our problems are in our pockets...we tend to look too far...too far

Why didn't I go ahead to start my own cooking gel one may ask....You probably will keep asking for a life time..

9billion naira? Someone help me convert to rands please...smh!! It is well...

Let me ask a personal question and i want a sincere answer. What are you doing for a better Nigeria? We know the country is in mess, what are you doing in your own little way to better the situation of this country?

Sensitisation and awareness. Doing little little charitable works. Trying to expose the rate of chaos and corruption endemic in the system, waiting for it to all fall apart then we gon have to start building afresh..

You see, the truth is, the Very Foundation Nigeria sits on is Faulty.

What can we do when the foundation is faulty? The whole building is got to be brought down, the foundation has to be re-inforced, then proper blocks of nation building would be used. As Nigeria is Today, no structural engineer can use any other form of corrective mechanism. No part time solution.

Nigeria is the only country I know that didn't fight for her independence, so tell me, how would they cherish it?

Nobody wants to die, nobody wants to sacrifice but people keep dieing everyday in this country.

Even if we were to revolt, the number of people that would die wouldn't have been upto the number of deaths recorded so far..

Number of internally displaced people is on the rise.

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the purchase of N9.2billion worth of clean cook stoves and wonder bags for rural women under the National Clean Cooking Scheme.

Wonder bag is a non-electric slow cooker invented by Sarah Collins, ‎a south African eco-entreprenuer, who came up with the idea six years ago during a power cut, when she decided to keep her dinner cooking by surrounding the pan with cushions.

The council also awarded a contract of N60.9billion to an indigenous firm, KaKatar CE Limited, for the provision of engineering infrastructure for Kyami District, Zone C, Abuja.

Supervising Minister of Information, Dr. Nurudeen Muhammed; Minister of Environment, Mrs. Lawrecia Mallam; and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Muhammed, briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo.

Muhammed said the N9.2billion inclusive of Value Added Tax was approved for the procurement of 750,000 units of clean cook stove and 18,000 wonder bags.

He said the stoves are expected to be delivered by Messrs Integra Renewable Energy Services Limited within a period of 12 weeks.

He noted that the stoves which will be assembled locally, will provide jobs to Nigerians among other benefits.

The minister said, “The National Clean Cooking Scheme is an aggressive drive to engender clean cooking culture amongst the poor rural women, to reduce and possibly eliminate cooking with solid fossil which is detrimental to health.

“The scheme is expected to provide 20 million clean stoves over a five-year period at the rate of four million stoves yearly which will be distributed without charge.

“It will also reduce incessant felling of trees which exposes the country to ecological problems.

I am a strong supporter of this govt programmes but believe me this move by the fg is coming at the wrong time. Fg and gej should have known that nigerians will kick against this move, most especially when the naira is crumbling against the dollars and there is a drop in oil price and money coming in. The govt was talking about introducing austerity measures some few weeks back, then why do they need to spend some much capital in importing bags from south africa? If the fg had said that 9.2 billion naira will be given as loans to 480,000 youths at 150k naira each nobody will complain even if they don't do it. But telling nigerians you are awarding a contract of this amount for cooking stoves is like a big slap on nigerians.

This is pure wastage! Our president is becoming more clueless daily.

Not a wastage at all. All means to curb wastage of natural resources should be highly welcomed and appreciated. The cooking stove is said to reduce environmental pollution, wastage of fuel probably due to incomplete combustion, and reduce indiscriminate felling of trees for fire wood and charcoal production, thus protecting our environments from natural disasters.

If the move will serve all these purposes it shouldn't be disregarded. Just let's hope it will bring benefits to all now or later.

Let's assume the figure of 300 direct beneficiaries of the assemble plant is correct ( but I doubt its tenability), what about hundreds of dependants they stand to feed? On a larger picture, do you consider the enormity of the stove's impact on the lives of women who trek miles to fetch firewood? Is their life expectancy subject to improvement or otherwise? If you take care of women, you are indirectly catering for the welfare of the nation and no amount spent to that effect is a waste.

Osanobua. I cannot believe I'm explaining this.

If you feed 300 people through an unsustainable assembly plant (you admit that the project is unsustainable), you may help 20,000 rural women. If you start a manufacturing industry of creating Bricket which constantly needs to be manufactured, therefore the only way that industry is going is UP, to SUSTAINABLE GROWTH, you not only feed 1000 families minimum in 2 years, you educate their staff, who go on to start their own Bricket making facility to produce enough to keep up with the demand for it (since once they increase oil at the pump price, gas will go up and more families will need a cheaper source of fuel, which would have added benefits of being cleaner). So, let's recap:

Locally-sourced fuel
-cleaner source of fuel
-sustainable manufacturing growth
-economic growth for lower middle class
-technological advancements
-exports (which we badly need)
-renewable energy (less cuttinf down of trees and more usage of waste which does nothing on our landfills)

Compared to

Imported stove
-importation of products which is unsustainable in an economy that needs to stop spending foreign currency abroad
-jobs for about 300 people (which we cannot guarantee will remain even upto 2017)

Yup.
