what z harvest and bazaar what z d use am a catholic so pls dont insult me just ansa d question

The Church, especially in Nigeria, would do well to scrap the present day Harvest and Bazaar sales.

In my very proud opinion, I believe the present day harvest and bazaar have lost their meaning and relevance.

Some may argue that this is a special period of thanks giving and fund raiser for the Church, I still hold the view that there are better ways to thank God and help the Church grow financially.

The sad reality is that the period of Harvest and Bazaar is a time when the Church (particularly the Nigerian Church) give a subtle permission for wrongdoing.

exactly my point why should the church buy and sell at exhorbitant prices in d name of rasing fund 4 d church isnt that what jesus scattered in d temple in his days. The most annoying part is the time the spend in doing this and the funny part is most time u wont even c any development in d church

We all know the purpose of harvest and bazaar.

We all agree that the method is/might be outdated.

But has any of you proposed a better way for your parish to achieve the objectives, and worked towards it?

If you haven't, you may be a part of the problem.

You know a better way, yet you abandon the work for those who don't know...year after year.

Think about it.

I know it is difficult to change what has been happening for decades. I used to complain a lot about many things in my parish...I still do. But at a point in time, I took it upon myself to start trying to change things.

It is a process. I have joined committees. I have written to the Parish Priest. Some of the changes I wanted to see started happening. Some started happening years after I started fighting for them. Some may never happen.

Regarding harvest and bazaar...do you know a better way a parish can meet the objectives? Have you proposed it to your Parish Priest? Have you volunteered yourself to join the harvest planning committee so you can make the current method better?

If you haven't, I think you have very little moral right to complain here.

if you haven't can you tell us your better suggestions, let's analyze it and see if each one here should propose it to his/her parish?

On a side note, some of those people who have been working on the 'outdated' method... I think we all owe them gratitude. They have been giving their time, energy, resources to keep our parishes going...the best way they know. While some of us gurus have been complaining all the while without lifting a finger all along.

please dont let what I said offend you. Those were the same things I told myself before I started being more active in my parish activities.

Now when I complain, I feel better, because no one can ask me "Mr, what have you done?"

Now when I complain, they even listen more...and give me the chance to implement those ideas.

thanks.

What you suggest would go down this way:

Parishioner: Um....Father I have a fantastic method of raising funds for the Church that could even be better than the way harvests and bazaars are organized.

Priest: Wow my son, I am most interested to hear this novel idea.

Parishioner: *Painstakenly tries to explain his idea to the Priest.

Priest: (After 3 hours of convincing from the parishioner) Well my son you have a good idea there I must say.

Parishioner: (Over joyed) Thank you Father. I told them you are different. The Parishioners would be thrilled when they hear this idea would replace the harvest and bazaar.

Priest: (almost choking on his cough) Good heavens NO my son. Don't go about telling them that.

Parishioner: (Very confused) But Father you just agreed with the idea.

Priest: (smiling sheepishly) Of course I agreed to the idea. This idea would be more effective if it is done just before the harvest. Let's have both. It would mean more money.

Parishioner: Father I give up!

I will go peaceably and firmly to the Catholic Church: for if Faith is so important to our salvation, I will seek it where true Faith first began, seek it among those who received it
