The OP is in dire need of an English Comprehension course. Those of you who wrote rubbish on the first page should also learn to read. Use your brain before you grow old.

It's just like the ruckus about Islamic banking. It is a system that doesn't involve the religion of Islam; a simple alternative to typical capitalist practices.

Read and learn.

It's annoying when educated illiterate like the op bank on issues like this to sabotage someones image.. FYI Islamic banking is just a product like SLS rightly defended. Similarly the Vatican defended this claim that Islamic banking should be a must practice for every developing economy. It's discourages the investment on arms, alcoholic and all other social economic vices.
Let me equally add, Prof.Charles soludo himself made a proposal before he left office. So op maybe u need a re-education on this particular discourse

Islamic banking is lauded and encouraged by the UK government. Does that make David Cameron an islamic fundamentalist?

Rubbish! I'm a christian but I don't see what is wrong is saying a banking system of nother religion is good! No one saidanything when clueless went to kneel for pastors to pray for him. If it was buhari, all hell will be let loose! Anyway, maybe because nigerians know that clueless has a lot of sinsto atone for so we ignored it

#anything but clueless!

Islamic Economics is part of Islam so if you are actually attempting to Use this against Buhari you must be crazy. Islamic Banking is done in Nigeria right now and it certainly wasnt started under Buhari so who are you gonna call an extremist for that? By the way Islamic Banking is actually a good thing, places like the UK agree but ofcourse its expected that halfwits like you would call people extremists for using it, afterall you personally believe all Muslims are extremists and/or terrorists. Just because you dont state it clearly doesnt mean you dont.

Lastly since now apparently you are attempting to use things like this that are part of Islam to attack Buhari, i think its time somebody starts digging up stuff about Christianity that GEJ agrees with and we dont like. And when that happens i wanna see if the pathetic Mods of this forum are also gonna immediately send it to the frontpage.

The way Muslims/Islam is being constantly attacked to further GEJ's ambitions is very pathetic in this country, and yet some Motherfvckers wanna complain about Muslims not wanting to vote for GEJ.

Same way Cameron has opted for Islamic finance in the UK.

Any problem?

Any problem with Islamic economics that cannot be praised?
It is even captured in the fiscal framework of 2015 that we are going to secure a facility of over 2billion dollars from the IDB within the year and this is due to the very low interest rate charged by the bank, a condition very favourable to a developing/struggling economy like ours. How does praising such a system amount to being an extremist as the op is trying to assert??

This Op is a shame unto himself and his forebearers.

....and a mod decided to litter the front page with this garbage??!!

Islamic banking/finance is used in many advanced countries of the world.

It is even studied in papers F9 and P4 in the ACCA exams. It has many desirable features.

The main idea underpinning it is that no one should make money from lending out money. That is "Riba"(Interest) should not be made by banks and mortgage institutions. Money should rather be made from productive activities.

Islamic banking has the same purpose as conventional banking: to make money for the banking institute by lending out capital. But that is not the sole purpose.
Adherence to Islamic law and ensuring fair play is also at the core of Islamic banking. Because Islam forbids simply lending out money at interest, Islamic rules on transactions (known as Fiqh al-Muamalat) have been created to prevent it. The basic principle of Islamic banking is based on risk-sharing which is a component of trade rather than risk-transfer which is seen in conventional banking. Islamic banking introduces concepts such as profit sharing (Mudharabah), safekeeping (Wadiah), joint venture (Musharakah), cost plus (Murabahah), and leasing (Ijar).

Very weak and poor argument.

1. China practices STATE-CAPITALISM. Please Google it.

2. You give me Russia which has turned to one of the most corrupt countries in the world all thanks to the system it practices? Do you also know what the GINI Coefficient (wealth disparity) in Russia is? Are you also aware that this same communism is the reason Russia has failed to diversify it's economy (away from Oil) and is now taking a serious beating from Obama's calculated plan of crashing the global oil price? Are also aware that this has kindled a chain reaction that is about to see Russia's currency (Ruble) downgraded to 'junk' status?
You might wanna do that research before basking in your utopic delusions.

Power: FG seeks $450m from Islamic Development Bank

August 5, 2013 by Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja

The Federal Government has sought the support of the Islamic Development Bank for the provision of about $450m to expand the power transmission system to wheel up to 20,000 megawatts of electricity.

A statement on Sunday quoted Vice-President Namadi Sambo as making the request on behalf of the government in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, when he received the bank’s President, Dr. Ahmed Ali, who paid him a courtesy visit.

Sambo is currently in Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj.

He was quoted as saying that for the progress being made in the power sector to be meaningful, more funds needed to be injected in the transmission component.

The vice-president said Nigeria would need about $450m from the bank to expand the transmission system to wheel up to 20,000MW of electricity.

Sambo also called on the bank to consider the construction of a road linking Lagos to Abidjan, the capital of Côte d’Ivoire.

He also requested the IDB to extend its support to the Nigerian private sector in the areas of education, aviation and agriculture.

“Vice-president Sambo noted the progress made by the government in the power sector, construction and expansion of deep seaports, especially those of Lekki and Ibaka, as well as the development of the Aluminium Smelter Company, where he stated that efforts were being geared towards ensuring the participation of investors in the mining sector,” the statement read.

While thanking the IDB for the continued support and cooperation with Nigeria, Sambo said all the approvals granted by the bank over the years had been ratified by the National Assembly and the Federal Executive Council.

Ali was quoted as saying in his remarks that the purpose of his visit was to give a push to the Nigeria-IDB cooperation.

He said the bank had approved three out of the five projects submitted by the country.

The projects, according to him, are the construction of four new science secondary schools in Kaduna State worth $17,9m; construction of a 300-bed specialist hospital in Kaduna State at $43.15m; and the Zaria water supply project worth  $81.0m.

He explained that the$32.40m Jigawa State rural development project and the bilingual education programme for Borno, Gombe and Niger states worth $30.53m were under consideration.

Ali promised to look at all the requests made with a view to giving them favourable and accelerated consideration.

He said the bank was always pleased to accord priority to projects involving more than one member country.

The IDB president added that the bank was working on a trans-Saharan road involving several countries, including Chad, Niger, Algeria, Tunisia and Nigeria.

He said the road would provide a platform for commuters to travel from Africa to Europe by road.

Ali stated that approval would soon be given for the Lekki seaport worth $150m.

Present at the meeting were the Nigerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Abubakar Shuni; Alhaji Isiyaku Rabiu; Alhaji Kashim Shettima and Alhaji Yahaya Imam, among others.

Nigeria runs an annual budget that is little above 4 trillion naira.
Paying N5000 to 25 million people every month (like he said he would) is 125billion for a month. Multiply that by 12 (a year) and it's 1.5trillion naira, more than one-third of the national budget!
