The test run of the Card Reader Machines proposed for the forthcoming general elections, carried out in 12 states, yesterday, exposed the flaws in the new voting technology introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Significantly, the machines failed to recognise Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in some states.

In many other states, the machines’ batteries went down after barely three hours of operation.

The batteries running down within the space of time may be an issue in an election in which voting may span at least six hours.

The failure of the biometric confirmation of potential voters was higher in the North.

Lagos State was, however, an exception as the exercise passed off smoothly with little hitches in the swiping of the PVCs and the biometric confirmation of the potential voters.

The exercise was carried out in Lagos, Ekiti, Anambra, Ebonyi, Taraba, Bauchi and Kano. The other states where the mock accreditation exercise took place were Kebbi, Delta and Rivers States.

Our worries – PDP
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said, yesterday, it was worried over the lapses in the testing of the Card Readers.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the party noted that the fall-out from the test “vindicates earlier widespread calls by stakeholders that the Card Readers should be thoroughly tested to ascertain their workability for free, fair and credible elections before being deployed for the actual polls.”

Metuh, who said that the party had noted series of complaints from Nigerians regarding reported lapses experienced in the testing of the machines, stressed that it was waiting for official response from INEC.

Card Reader is the game-changer of this upcoming elections as rigging will be effectively mitigated.

Anyone or party that is against its use is an enemy of progress. In fact, GEJ should be the one at the forefront of championing its use since he claims he will use I.T to 'fight' corruption cheesy. Rigging is a manifestation of corruption.

Card Readers are here to stay. Whatever flaws it recorded during the mockup can be corrected before March 28 - that was the objective of the mockup.

The PDP is at it again emphasising the little flaws that was recorded.

Either they like it or not, we'll send them parking from Aso villa.

It is time honest and people of integrity steer the affairs of this country.

In real elections, PVCs not read by the cardreader will be tagged cloned.

Not so bro. If this was the main election, GEJ would won by 95% due to the fact that majority of Kano voters (perceived stronghold of the opposition) had problems with the CR recognising their PVC just like Rivers State. Try follow the report on Channels TV. That may have resulted to the opposition calling for cancellation too. INEC would have put the country in a state of anarchy should that Feb 14 date not shifted. Could you imagine also that many are yet to see their PVCs? God bless Nigeria.

At least we now know that PDP was not lying about the inadequacy of these card readers and that INEC was not ready for this election.

Great thanks to the presidency for averting the anarchy that Jega wanted to throw us into.

These card readers were used in other countries, we didn't hear of flaws. It's only in naija we can hear such because people are not sincere, people are so dishonest and dubious. If there are flaws with the readers then correction should be encouraged and made, not total discard or rejection. Do we know the large amounts of money pumped into these readers? Rigging must be discouraged, ballot paper stealing must go! We must get it right now or never. Nigerians wake up and make this country great. it's well..

Olodo even after the massive failure of the card readers, you still ask what is wrong with them? Are you a programmed robot? I trust PDP they know how to go. about it.24 hours to the elections, one court injunction would simply take care of the card readers

Vanguard? I'm not surprised. All the TV stations and even the Punch that I followed on the use of card readers said it was successful, though, as with all new technologies, not without some challenges.

bros u are trying to explain reasonable points to ppl who have no sense. Many of them don't know the kind of problem and chaos nigeria would have been now if gej had allowed inec to go ahead with the elections on the 14of feb. I am definitely sure some inec adhoc staff would have been killed by buhari human cows in the north who will view the deficiencies of the card reader as manipulation from pdp. This is the main reason why we keep saying card readers should have been used in ekiti and osun to see if they can withstand the rigours of our elections. This card reader that all these duummb mofos are shouting about is exactly what will destroy apc in the coming elections.

Na wa for some people oh. How anyone can see the mock elections as successful is beyond me. Abeg, what percentage of failed accreditations would make it a failure in your eyes? There is no margin for error. Anything less than 99% successful finger print recognition is not good enough. No single Nigerian should be denied the right to vote through no fault of theirs.

One can only imagine what would have happened if the elections had held on February 14. Up till this moment, some PVCs have not yet been delivered to INEC. What would be the fate of the Nigerians whose PVCs are yet to be delivered? They should just sit back and whistle? smh.

This was exactly what I told the INEC officer that trained us for this election. He was coaching us as if there won't be any mistake in the electoral process but we could easily see possible faults.
When asked some questions about the smart card reader, he said it was programmed to work for 8hours but when we tested it with a corps member pvc, it was not working convincingly.

I don't want a situation where I'll be beaten a black and blue for something that can be averted.

I don even tell the man say if I see gun, I go give them ballot box and smart card reader. I go even register them to vote.

Like how they crucified GEJ for subsidy removal & now realise he was right.

Now, many people are realising that postponing the elections was the right thing to do.

We thank Dasuki for using everything possible to postpone the election. This country would have been in deep mess by now
