I believe you need get a lawyer and sue her for wrongful dismissal. Enough with people been slaved just because.

Actually this is the right move, its not in your job requirement to carry her bag. I would never carry my MD's Bag if instructed unless he'd asked me to help assist.

I don't think marrying your female boss, who is also the type to rub it in, is something I'd call luck.

I can't believe some people are telling you you're wrong. What da hell? Is it in the company's handbook that you should carry your boss handbag? What's wrong with her own hand? You're an architect not an office assistant. What about the driver?

Gosh I'm so pissed at some people's slave mentality. You did the right thing. And if your work is second to none, her father would come looking for you. Then you can set ground rules.

Hold your head high

You weren't wrong. It was never stated in the offer letter that you job description included carrying her hand bag. She has inferiority complex and she could only overcome it by seeing you do attend to her domestic needs. She wanted to cross the line and you didn't let her. That's the same way some people get to start doing uncomplimentary things to keep their jobs. You were a man.
Don't feel bad, other jobs will turn up.
While I respect your opinion I must say that I strongly disagree with you. Will a little humility kill the dude? Did you miss the part where he said she's his boss? Besides its not a routine. It was just once and I didn't get the part where the op apologised for ignoring his boss. That's how insubordination starts and you know how women are. OP, this should be a lesson to you. Yes u spent a considerable amount of years in school studying architecture but there's one thing you didn't learn and that is humility. As far as you've not gotten your own firm, u gonna do a lot of bag carrying n "food-buying" if it calls to it until you are your own boss or at least have some people that you can order arround under you. Having said that, I wish you best of luck in your future endeavours.

@ OP,

First of all you were not wrong, strictly speaking.

However life is not about "strictly speaking" always. That is why one has to be DIPLOMATIC without being weak at all times.
In short, you could have handled the situation differently. The fact that you hitched a ride in her car meant you owe her (sort of) a favour. I do not know HOW (manner of speaking/non-verbal cues) she asked you to carry the bag. Irrespective you could have asked in a very diplomatic/almost joking manner, if there is any particular reason why she wants the bag to be carried by someone else?
If you asked in a professional BUT non-threatening/non-condescending/non-disrespectful way she would have had to handle herself properly as well.

Overall it further shows the sad state of our country.

I was employed as an architect in a medium size architectural firm, my boss happens to be a lady.

I hitched a ride in her car after a meeting with a client on site, It's was even my first time of hitching a ride in her car, as I have always eschewed it, on getting to the office she asked me to carry her hand bag along, but I turned deaf ear to her request and swiftly went straight to the office, but she came to my office and gave me a sullen glare.

I thought the malice won't last long, but unfortunately for me, she fired me this morning for a no cogent reason.

I'm downcast and bewildered, she's just privilege to be the manager because it's her dad firm, she's my contemporary, and I was on the verge of supervising a gigantic project.

Was I wrong?

sorry o.. seems theres an opening at that firm.. kindly help a brother with the details.. updating CV * willing and can carry bag*

When she asked you to carry the bag, were her hands free or was she carrying files or other things? If it were a male manager that asked you to carry his bag would you carry it? These are the questions you should ask yourself.

I am sorry but you are the wrong one here.
Being a subordinate in a PROFESSIONAL office is not equal to being a slave or UNNECESSARILY doing lap dog.

Many years ago I had cause to tell a senior (not my boss per se) that he should not get used to asking me to make coffee for him after I had made it for him once without question and he asked me a second time. However I made sure I found the opportunity to make him coffee again a few days later even though he NEVER asked me again.

Only we (Nigerians) can make our society.
No God or messiah will come down to do it for us!

Guy you didn't act wrong but you should have resist in a cunning way. I remember when I was working with an arrogant boss, I went to see him @ home to pick some files, my boss after attending to me begged me to wash his car for him. I laughed and told him that my dad didn't have a car so I don't know how to wash car. He looked at me with anger in his eyes and left.

After that episode he never try to make me do odd jobs for him rather other staffs bore the brunt.

Wisdom should be applied next time.
