First class in which aspect?

Is it in state or in a standard Yoruba concept.

At state level, we may have many first class king depending on the size and importance of their community in the state.

In a standard Yoruba concept, we don't have many first class king and I don't think oba of Lagos is among.

The traditional first class Yoruba kings are Orogun of Ila, Alafin of Oyo, Oni of Ife, Alake of egba and oba of bennin.

The next in hierachy are: Olubadan of Ibadan, awojale of Ijebu, Timi of Ede, owa obokun Of Ijesha, onokoyi, Osamawe of ondo etc

The third level are Soun of ogbomosho, olofa of offa, akinrun of ikinrun etc.

Some of our popular kings are made popular because of the mordern development which favour their community and they become more popular.

For instance Deji of Akure in not bigger than Osamawe of ondo but since akure in the capital and Deji is the king of Akure, his throne overshadow the king of ondo town.

Oyo was the empire behemoth that subsumed all the other peoples.

The heart of the Oyo empire in Fulani hands would have established them as suzerain over 'Yorubaland'.
Which Fulani are you talking about You keep banging on about Fulani.Fulani from where exactly. There was no Fulani incursion. There was an Ilorin incursion(Marching south from Ilorin) and they were not Fulani they were mostly Oyo renegades with mercenary soldiers who were Hausa,Nupe,Fulanis etc that had lived in Oyo territory for ever. This was during the slave trade and Oyo was very cosmopolitan before the schism many were freed slaves and what they had in common was Islam they were largely Oyos. To the North of Ilorin are Gwari and Nupe Kingdoms so I must ask again where these "Fulanis" are coming from? This is a commonly held misconception but even to this day how many Fulanis are in Nigeria? Ilorin was not about Fulani suzerainty neither is it the case even in Hausalan where you have so called Fulani Emirs. I would say how is that different from Oduduwa and his sons were they Yoruba? Yes they established a dynasty but did they change the DNA? Have Fulani changed the DNA in Kano? If you are looking for Fulani ruling Fulani look at the Lamido Adamawa and guess what they now speak Hausa

[size=18pt]there is no title call Eleko of Eko.. I cant laugh when I read this.. There is no such title call eleko of Eko.. you people are funny. The Oba of lagos(duke of Lagos) is just a oba(duke) like the over 500 obas(duke) we have in cities of the Independent country of the kingdom of Western nigeria.

Instead of civilian performing the function. My family had Obas perform the function, including ambassadorial function and others, this is the work of Obas(duke). They are not emperor or kings.. They are dukes of cities.. all over Independent country of the kingdom of Western nigeria.

We have Oba of abeokuta(now call Alake) Duke of Abeokuta
Oba of Ijebu ( now call awujale)Duke of Ijebu
Oba of Benin ( who did not change his name) Duke of Benin
Oba of Oyo ( who is now call alafin of Oyo) duke of Oyo
Oba of Okuku, duke of okuku
Oba of Iragbiji, duke of iragbiji
Oba of Inisa, duke of inisa
Oba of Eko-Ende, duke of eko ende
Oba of Oyan, duke of oyan
Oba of Oke Irun, duke of oke irun
Oba of Erin Osun duke of erin osun etc
we have several obas in towns , there are more than 1000 obas

it is the oba of a town, Which meand Duke of a town.. Dont call people eleko of eko. Call them Oba of Inisa, Oba of Iragbiji , Oba of owo, Oba of ore, Oba of Oyo, Oba of Offa..Oba of abeokuta, Oba of Ijebu ode, etc, this is the correct title

You sound pained. Get over it, we are talking. Its better to jaw-jaw than to war-war. Take it easy, so we can address this issue as 21st humans and not some neanderthals. Our constitution is borrowed from UK/US...Am I correct ? And in US, Category EB-5 Visa requirement is to invest from $500K in the US economy or hire at least 10 Americans...I do not expect you to know this but I do respect if you know.

Now, a dirty swampy Lagos, is better off than US/UK and if I have invested that amount of money and hired over that number of Nigerians resident in Lagos I can not contest for office of Governor ? Nigga grow up! Obama and Schwarzenegger comes to mind when I read from some of you.

In my part of Lagos, most developers are NOT yorubas, they erect these marvels here and there, and rent out to everyone including the Yorubas. You should be happy if anyone is even wasting his time to contest election and clean up the mess called Lagos. There are countries lobbying some of us to bring in Foreign Direct Investment, yet one silly skirt wearing local champion somewhere will stand up and vomit ...venomous statements because he is called Oba. That's absolute nonsense and that's the nonsense that's making Lagos backwards than Johannesburg.

The Alaafin was the paramount ruler of Yoruba land, but, you might want to remove the Ijebus from that list, they were not really part of Yorubaland as such, they were more concerned about Lagos and the Seas than the hinterland, the hinterland Yorubas were also more concerned about the North than the Seas, the Ijebus really guarded the sea jealously.

Oh no, you get me figured out wrongly. I am a Jonathanian. I only embraced PDP because of Jonathan and Jonathan alone. Without Jonathan, PDP is just another APC. We must not forget that APC as it is constituted is a toxic blend of ex-PDP+Tinubu&Buhari (A lethal concoction).

Oba is a Father of all Lagosians, and lost our respect when he chose to support one son against the other. Let's not forget that we are a Democracy, and NOT a Monarchy. The Oba is NOT a recognized office in the constitution. Do not also forget that as long as we are using the 1999 constitution (as ammended); any Nigerian is a citizen of any state he/she chooses to live in and has right to contest for office there as far as he performs his/her constitutional responsibility of paying taxes.

I am more Lagosian than most of you who have not even hired a single Nigerian, not even a fellow Yoruba person but are quick to say..."Lagos is yoruba land". Can you afford a plot of land in this Lagos ? If you can, then you have a stake, and you are a Lagosian with full rights of Lagosian and Nigerian, fullstop.
abuse the Oba as much as you like,he brought it to himself, but in yoruba land you are ARA EKO not OMO EKO.

There is no reason to undermine Ife, this is history. I do not care a hoot for Ife, as I have more affinity for the Ijeshas and Oshogbo peeps than Ife. We recognise Ife as the spiritual home but they have not born the Ooni that will deny the Alaafin his dues, the Modakekes were always deployed wink.

Man you got jokes cheesy

As aptly put by Oonirisa, Alaafin's empire died a long time ago.

Quickly, I am sure you did not know Ife is one of the few towns still occupying its original site for centuries?

You also apparently did not know Ife and Ijesa have a strong bond and they have often rooted for Ife and vice versa - even Ijebu.

That is the problem some of the kings that their domain Is not strategically located is facing, you will wonder why orangun of Ila may not be known but ataoja of osogbo is known.

In hierachy Timi of Ede and oragun of ila are superior to ataoja of Oshogbo but modern days development has changed everything.

The awujale must have been Asari Dokubo pf that period LOL!

The Ijebu played a pivotal role in Yoruba history; the politics, economics snd social aspects, all of it.

Alaafin ruled many Yoruba towns exclusive of some - Ife, Ijebu, the whole of Ijesha land (which spread to Ekiti).

The Fulani horse was destroyed at Osogbo by the Ibadan army who were loyal to the throne of Oyo. In this war, many prominent Ilorins were captured, they were fighting under the banner of Islam and fully supported equipped and encouraged by the Fulanis. Fulanis being very crafty and full of subterfuge would have obtained the kingdom easily if the renegades had been successful.

And just as Abdusalami invited the flag from Gwandu, the new conquerors would have invited the flag from Sokoto directly.
