I work in NUC and I can tell u that pressid is purely on merit.I have seen students from ABU who are of northern extraction that bagged the award but majority are southwest,southeast etc.the purpose of the scheme is to sort out the best brains and trained them in the best schools abroad who will in turn return back to Nigeria to impact their knowledge for the social economic progress of the country.mind u,its targeted for specific areas of discipline.if merrit. Were to be jettisoned in favour of quota system,then I can tell u that the aim of Pressid is already defeated.

The reason for this is to ecourage people who have interest only in Islamic education to buy into the western one. But those who are willing to study are truly bright. Know that it is only the core Northern states that have such nonchalance towards western education. The Ebiras, Nupes,Ighalas, Idomas,Kajes, Birom, Gwaris etc are all tribes in the North that do not play with book. Why not extend the hand of presidential schorlaship to all those other tribes?

There are Northerners on the list. Just like they are few cos the selection is strictly based on MERIT. The North as it is constituted today cannot function if MERIT becomes the operating condition in Nigeria in stead of Nepotism and Federal character. That is just what this argument us all about. Nothing else. Buhari himself could NEVER had entered the Military and quickly become an official and then Head of State if the rule was not bent for him and his Hausa-Fulani mates.

these tribes you mentions are doing great in schools and they also struggle like any other person in Nigeria to get admition, however. Believe it or not; when people talk about backwardness of the north. These people you mentioned never comes to mind because they dont have the privileges some other people in the same north have.

Bros the truth is that i am always tribal or sectional when these kind of issues are raised. What happens in federal civil service cos of federal character & quota system is killing me.

Most Hausa/fulani people that heads us are nothing but...(wont say that here)

They laugh at us even, wondering why we should be working so hard for the promotion that most times doesnt come while they gain promotion doing little.
