Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has advised the in-coming government of Gen. Muhammad Buhari (Rtd), to will the political power and reverse the current privatisation exercise of the Power sector for Nigeria to move on.

Atiku made this statement at the 36th Kaduna International Trade Fair’s Seminar organised by the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA).

He said the failure experienced in the power sector of the economy has been due to the successive government’s approach in tackling the problem in the sector.

The former Vice President recalled that the Obasanjo-led administration which sunk several billions of United State Dollars into the sector, took the wrong approach in tackling the power sector but failed to address the problem of the power sector because the government took a long-term measure rather than a short-term approach.

In response to why private investors were unable to collect licenses to build private refineries during the Obasanjo/Atiku administration, he said that in his eight years as Vice President to ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo, he knew nothing about what happened in that sector as Obasanjo doubled as the Minister of Petroleum Resources.

“During our administration, there was no transparency and accountability in the oil and gas industry. There was a time we were handed a Ghana-must-go memo on the oil and gas and asked by the president for our input and I refused to support it”, he added.

According to him, President Goodluck Jonathan also took a wrong step in solving the Power sector problem which has accounted for the current epileptic power supply in the country.

“Japan, Singapore never depended on oil but human capital development and today they are ranked among the world best economy,” he said.

GMB knows there's a lot of things to be dealt with. The Power Privatisation thing is also a cover up like the NNPC. u would marvel at things when the PHCN is revisited by the incoming govt. Heard they bought it amongst themselves.
meanwhile, if this is coming from Atiku then, the end of the world is at hand. God is watching.

Electricity is better in private hands with government regulation

Most of our problems started during the Obasanjo regime in 1999. I find it hypocritical that Nigerians will accuse GEJ for all the problems this country is facing.

Totally in support. Government officials just used proxies to buy for themselves fragments of PHCN all in the name of privatisation, and now one can't even get 5hours steady electricity in a day. The stuff that went on was one of the biggest frauds accomplished under the outgoing admin and must be revisited.

Privatisation was meant to enhance efficiency and service delivery, but what we are getting is a complete opposite of that.

GEJ met a problem and instead of solving it, he added more to it, that's how he was judged. In 6 years as president, Nigerians expect improvement, not beating around the same problem.

Do you remember there was no single telecom company in Nogeria when OBj over office? He didn't need to be blaming IBB and Anacha for the problems, he solved it with seriousness.

Another heavy knock hanging loose to land on gej's head.
He thinks we are going to let him resign to his otuoke mini-paradise-mansion in peace. NO!
We shall keep opening his files to burst some of his political mishap in the name of privatization and some sandy policies he put in place.

100% supported

If the power cannot be improved, remove the fixed charges and let us pay as we consume
Imagine, paying fixed charges when there is no power at all for months
Imagine, Minister of power telling us that there is a power drop but it never reflect in our bill rather, you have bill increment all the time

Well......on the one hand...good idea...on the other....it might not make things better.

Modified: The key problems are generation and transmission. GMB should devote time and energy to rectifying those issues.

Since everyone does not like nuclear power for generation.....we should explore solar, coal and gas fired plants.

Incase you couldn't read the long story this is what Athiku wants; illegally confiscating the properties, technological inputs, facilities, licences and FDIs by Nigerian businness consortiums and foreign technical partners before putting them all for cheap sale to other front companies owned by him and Jagbajantis...
