I am ready to buy fuel initially at 150 naira per liter for this subsidy to go far, far away.

Infact, up it to 180 per liter with no scarcity ever again in the history of the country and I'll pay. At least we could still be productive and ration things out.

With subsidy removed though, I don't even think prices will get that high.

Bottom line, remove subsidy NOW!!

No more this person is owing that to this person, nmba, no!

Just import the fuel and we will pay full price untill the refineries start working abeg, too much shakara, mtcheww!

I got fuel for 350/litre yesterday. Den I asked myself if we can pay dis high in a subsidy regime we will still survive without subsidy. Its easy to blame Jonathan bt wen dis gentle man tried removing dis subsidy we all crucified him. Now we hv fed dis oil marketers so fat dey r now so strong to strangulate us. Subsidy has done us no good since its inception rather dan corruption nd breeding of cabals. Stand up against oil marketers / subsidy

u are the one who isn't in tune with modern day events . Even buhari will not repair those refineries . The refineries will be sold to private investors and oil subsidy payments will be removed . This is exactly the same thing gej wanted to do in 2012. No sensible normal thinking president will spend scarce resources on those refineries u are talking about.
IM STILL SHOCKED SOME IMBECILES R STILL THINKING OF REPAIRED REFINERIES AND IBSIDY PAYMENT STILL EXISTENT.

SOME PPL R TRULY DUMB. I GIVE UP.

people are missing the key issues here.

1. The marketers are not magicians, they cannot lift fuel free of charge if GEJ refuses to pay them.
2. Is Nigeria so broke that it can't pay marketers as agreed? Recall that part subsidy has already been removed in 2012.
3. If GEJ fixed or built refineries over the past 6 years, there would be no talk of subsidy today.
4. Why are government workers and oil marketers suddenly being owed monies after elections?
5. Are refineries worth the trillions paid to their cronies as subsidy?
6. Removing subsidy only abdicates govt's responsibility and let's the masses bear the cost of subsidy instead of building refineries which they refuse to do for selfish reasons.
7. imagine the economic impact of foreign exchange spent on importing feul when we could produce and refine locally.

In conclusion, GEJ's govt simply refuses to pay marketers as agreed to punish Nigerians or is Nigeria too broke to pay? (I don think so).
Subsidy removal is welcome but only after the government fixes our refineries.

hucienda:
So why were people protesting back in 2012? Their eyes finally 'open' to the truth?

We now see for a fact that this subsidy may hold the fort for the short term but is definitely not sustainable long term.

We need working refineries in-country.

When Jonathan in his WISDOM decided to remove the subsidy in January 2012 only 7 months after he was voted in as president, to stop the SCAM, what did we say

The ghost of our foolishness will haunt us for long.

A people that cannot endure and sacrifice for a while will forever live in bondage!
QED!!!

Well said. I could remember trying to get the point across on this forum time and time again on the need to end this subsidy thing, few accepted. Three years and trillions down the drain, we are now wiser, better prepared and ready to let our pet sins go. What a pity. This is the same pity every well meaning foreigner I spoke to felt for this country then and I'm so certain now.

I keep on saying it, the biggest problem this country has, an anchor to its development, remains its people. All great nations are truly born in the crucibles of great suffering and immense tragedy. It was my conviction over a decade ago that any pacifist government was simply the enemy of the country and its people because Nigerians need a serious hard time to elevate our thinking. In this I commend the out-going government. NOI and SLS warned of all these things today and we still walked into the wall with our eyes wide open. What a reprobate people.

This fuel scarcity is biting more harder. How will FG pay when there are irregularities in the amount being owed. FG is saying x and oil marketers are saying y because there are no records. Everything is shutting down, including radio stations, there must be a solution in the coming days or else jona and his cohorts will not be allowed to take that yeye trip abroad. Very soon security operatives will voice out that no fuel to go on patrol. Oshisko!

I was warning them in 2011/2012, they all claimed that their country has this and that refineries. That "cabals" said this and that.

Where are we today

If we had accepted the removal back then, we would have adjusted to pump price of #141 per litre, and the subsidy revenue used for other national projects.

But here are we today back to square zero.

P.m.s is sold @ #300-#400 per litre in my area.

Each time I drive pass Oshodi every night by 11pm, I see multitude of commuters stranded.

I personally had to sell my v6 machine to acquire a bland 120hp i-4 car, just cos of this scarcity.

Nigerians are to blame.

Shame on you!!!!!!

I won't suffer. I still have enough reserve to last me one extra month.

Re: We Have No Money To Import Fuel — Marketers by Solozzo(m): 8:21am On May 24, 2015
The simple story is that Jonathan had spent all the money on the election campaign and no more money to pay marketers. They now blame it on subsidy issues. How do you expect supplies when you owing them. Secondly too many ghost suppliers collecting millions without supplying fuels.

Solution is not to remove subsidy but a complete probe of the PMS supply and payment systems; revoke lice ces and prosecute and clean up the supply line. Then get foreign firms to build and run refineries at least ten in the next 8 years. Only foreign firms please. Nigerian govt will fail to maintain them and we back to square one.

And when knowledgeable people suggest to restructure Nigeria politically in a democracy for equitable political representation to enable the emergence of quality leadership - or return to fiscal federalism - the north refuses fiscal federalism which may reduce its oil earnings, the SW and north refuse political restructuring because they believe it may give people of southsouth and southeast equal rights to the rest of Nigeria.

So the sufferings from leadership failure continue in Nigeria.

What more can I say after so many, many years. The only light at the end of the tunnel is that our suffering will be hard enough to make us want to leave Egypt enmasse no matter what the Pharoah's think.

ok bro.. juxtapose both scenarios.
one we bought fuel for 67n a litre and had occasional fuel scarcity. the other we bort at 97-105n and ran into fairly occasional fuel scarcity. which makes more sense?

subsidy is a scam. yes, but to who? We protested cos we know 9ja. GEJ claimed the savings from subsidy would be used to turn 9ja to Eldorado but we protested cos we knew its all hogwash. the savings will still be embezzled.

ok, after a couple of years of saving on partial removal where is your country now in 2015.? where's at least the partial "development" we shouldve seen by now?
