Bishop42: ^^^It's exactly because of this that the 'one Nigeria' champions, 'owners of Nigeria' and their southern allies don't even want to get to the stage of having a referendum, because then they'll have to look for non-existent reasons to try and convince the ethnic groups in the Niger Delta/South South why they're better off in Nigeria than having greater autonomy, control over their resources and respect in a Lower Niger Republic! Just read the Ahiara declaration or write-ups/publications from the Lower Niger Republic agitators to see how equitable the newly emerging nation would be! Like i always say, Nigeria always has the option of restructuring the polity and allowing a true fiscally-compliant federation....either that or these agitations for self-determination will continue to a logical conclusion! 2 Likes |

PRESS STATEMENT THE PLANNED RELOCATION OF BOKOHARAM CONVICTS TO ANAMBRA PRISONS SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT The attention of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has been drawn to the mischievous speculations on the social media that the planned relocation of some Boko Haram convicts to some prisons in Anambra State was done with his tacit approval and endorsement. I wish to categorically dismiss these speculations, hearsay and beer parlour banters as fundamentally untrue and should be disregarded by Nigerians. Hard Facts The fact is that when governor Obiano got wind of the planned relocation of these high risk prisoners to Anambra State, he quickly swung into action and contacted the relevant authorities to seek clarifications on the matter after which he raised several objections to the plan. Among Governor Obiano’s many objections are - That Anambra has been one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria in the past one year under his watch and that the arrival of these radical elements in any part of the state would disrupt this peace and lead to a new regime of a different kind of fear in the state. That Ekwulobia Prisons is not a Maximum Security Prison. It is therefore not suitable as holding place for convicted terrorists. Global experiences show that terrorists and terror suspects are kept in strongly fortified and isolated places. A good example is the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp where the US keeps high-risk terror suspects and convicts which is a military facility, located away from the people. Ekwulobia Prisons does not fit into this category of detention facilities. That Ekwulobia Prisons has a capacity to hold 85 inmates. At the moment, there are 135 inmates in the prison. Therefore, there is no space for new prisoners. The acute shortage of space presents a high possibility for the radicalization of other inmates by the Boko Haram convicts. That unlike other locations where the terror-convicts are held in sparsely populated areas which makes their isolation from the people easy, Ekwulobia is a densely populated town. There is a very high risk of contact between these radical prisoners and the civilian population with an avoidable danger. That the relocation of these prisoners to Anambra may not have paid adequate attention to the sensibilities of the country, especially the fact that some ethnic populations have suffered the most from the activities of these convicts across the North. Governor Obiano’s efforts to establish this understanding and achieve a speedy and peaceful resolution of the matter went to the highest authorities. He was given assurances that the matter would be looked into with a view to resolving it with dispatch. With these assurances he worked assiduously to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order during the peaceful demonstration staged by traders across the state on Saturday, June 27, 2015 against the relocation of the inmates. Since the demonstration, Governor Obiano has continued to engage the relevant authorities on behalf of Ndi Anambra to ensure an amicable resolution of the issue. He therefore urges Ndi Anambra and Ndigbo in general to remain calm and avoid anything that might lead to a breach of the peace as the matter is being resolved at the highest level. Thank you James Eze Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media Source: https://m.facebook.com/WillieObiano/photos/a.1380608652159857.1073741833.1377212462499476/1511846655702722/?type=1&refid=17&_ft_=top_level_post_id.901785103214693&__tn__=%2As 4 Likes |

Homosexuals protest in Anambra JUNE 13, 2013 : EMMANUEL OBE, AWKA Members of the gay community in Anambra State on Wednesday disrupted court proceedings at the Atani Chief Magistrate’s Court, while protesting the arraignment of two of them for allegedly having same sex relationship. The gay members had thronged the court as early as 9am to show solidarity with their members arrested by the state police command. A large number of them came to the court with femine outlook to the surprise of the people around. The group, who sang anti-police and court songs, said they should be allowed to exercise their fundamental human rights and to show solidarity with their members who were standing trial. They also demanded the unconditional release of the two accused persons, vowing to continue to fight for their rights despite the move by the National Assembly to criminalise their relationships. However, the two accused persons, whose identities could not immediately be confirmed, were later remanded in prison, as the magistrate’s court said it had no jurisdiction to try the matter. http://www.punchng.com/metro/homosexuals-protest-in-anambra/ |

Gay Group On Rampage In Anambra POSTED BY LITECADMIN · JUNE 19, 2013 · NO COMMENTS ANAMBRA REPORTS, FROM THE GEOPOLIS · ngg History was made recently in Anambra state when a group of homosexuals took to the streets to protest the arrest of two of their members who allegedly indulged in same-sex affairs. Chukwudi OHIRI This might sound absurd to the Nigerian cultural values, but whoever thinks that the global gay issue is still at infancy in Nigeria must hear this. Members of the gay community in Anambra State last week openly staged a protest at the Atani Magistrate Court in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra State recently, as a mark of solidarity for two of its members arraigned for allegedly having same sex relationship which is against the Nigerian statute books. The gay members, Nigerian OrientNews gathered besieged the court premises in their scores just before the commencement of proceedings chanting solidarity songs to the chagrin of onlookers. As if that was not enough, a good number of them reportedly appeared at the court premises in femine outlook thereby creating incredible scenes around the area. Unashamedly chanting anti-police and anti-court songs, they gay members insisted that they must not be prevented from exercising their fundamental human rights and to fraternize with their members who were arrested by the state police command for willfully exercising their rights. They equally called on the authorities to set the two of their members free insisting that they must take their agitations to the next level by impressing it upon the law makers to legalize gay relationship as is obtained in some parts of the world. Subsequently, the magistrate court citing lack of jurisdiction to try the case could not adjudicate on the matter and so remanded the two accused persons in prison custody till a later date. In Nigeria, homosexuality is a crime under the law, but there has been a concerted effort in recent past to take the law a step further by criminalizing gay marriage and relationship. This struggle dates back to 2006 when attempts by the government to legislate against same sex marriage first took a centre stage in Nigeria. Initially, it was difficult for both chambers of the National Assembly to reach a consensus. Late last year, the Nigerian lawmakers shoved ethno-religious sentiments aside and unanimously passed the bill against gay marriage. The bill which bans same sex marriage and outlaws any groups supporting gay rights also bans any gay marriage from being conducted in a Nigerian church or a mosque. According to the law which is presently awaiting presidential assent, “gay or lesbian couple who marry could face up 14 years each in prison. Witnesses or anyone who helps couples marry could be sentenced to 10 years behind bars. Anyone taking part in a group advocating for gay rights or anyone caught in a “public show” of affection also would face 10 years in prison if convicted by a criminal court.” In condemning the act, House majority leader Mulikat Adeola-Akande said during debate on same-sex marriage that “it is alien to our society and culture and it must not be imported,” adding that “religion abhors it and our culture has no place for it”. On his part, House Minority leader Femi Gbajabiamila said the bill represents “convergence of both law and morality.” He said that same-sex marriage “is both illegal and immoral” and must be discouraged in its entirety. Last year, US President Barack Obama ordered all government agencies that play an active foreign policy role to take steps to encourage foreign nations to put a premium on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights. The British Prime Minister David Cameron also warned that his country will consider withholding aid from countries that do not recognise gay rights. But in spite of the bad image Nigeria has in the global community, it is still a very religious country, hence it is expected that the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria must stand up to the call by majority of Nigerians to immediately sign the bill into law to forestall the ungodly display by some devious citizens in the name of gay community before it spreads like wildfire. When this law becomes effective, it will even be illegal for a group such as the gay community in Anambra State to brazenly parade themselves in public in the name of solidarity. http://www.nigerianorientnews.com/gay-group-on-rampage-in-anambra/ |

HIV/AIDS prevalence rate hits 8.7% in Anambra By Joe Chukindi on May 9, 2014@dailypostngr151SHARESSHARE TWEET SHARE SHARE 3 COMMENTS Subscribe free to Daily Post Newsletter Email Address Fear has gripped the people in Anambra State over the rise in the rate of the dreaded HIV/AIDS disease. This is following the revelation by the Executive Director, Anambra State Aids Control Agency, (ANSACA), Dr O.J Ndibe that the prevalence rate has hit 8.7 percent in the state. Speaking at a public presentation and the adoption of the state Monitoring and Evaluation plan on HIV intervention organized by Measure and Evaluation, Implementation partners and the Anambra State government in Awka, Thursday, Dr Ndibe disclosed that the State ranks 4th in the country, stressing that the report was based on the 2014 survey. According to Dr. Ndibe, to check the rising trend of new HIV cases, ANSACA has adopted a multi sectoral HIV response by synergizing with UNICEF, FH1360, PPFN, Local Action Committees in Aids, Civil Societies and the media, for proper grassroots sensitization. He said the plan was produced by the Anambra Aids Control Agency (ANSACA) with Technical and financial support by Measure Evaluation, adding that it will go a long way to sensitize the public on HIV/AIDS. Speaking at the occasion, the state Commissioner for health, Dr Joe Akubuike said that the state has joined the league of states in Nigeria that has produced a monitoring and evaluation plan in HIV intervention. Dr. Joe Akabuike noted that “when programme is pragmatically planned, it is very useful to put a benchmark or indicators for its assessment which should be a continuous process”. http://dailypost.ng/2014/05/09/hivaids-prevalence-rate-hits-8-7-anambra/ |

Anambra identifies 50 homosexual, 618 prostitution spots Anambra government says it has identified over 50 homosexual and 618 prostitution spots as HIV and AIDS high-risk targets in the state. The Director of the state’s AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), Dr John Ndibe, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Onitsha, Anambra, that the government would use its limited funds to target such spots and ensure that people operating these places were educated on the need to protect themselves and their clients from the deadly scourge. Ndibe said that the agency, as a co-ordinating agency on HIV and AIDS activities, was committed to making sure that it gets the mother-to-child transmission of HIV and AIDS to a zero level in the state as directed by President Goodluck Jonathan. He said that the agency had conducted a survey of high-risk factors and spots for HIV and AIDS in the state in order to effectively cut the transmission of the deadly virus. “Part of the result of the epidemic report was to identify spots where they operate; now having identified spots were they operate and we have an estimate of their numbers. “We now use the hard funds to target them in those places so that even if they continue with their trade, they will be doing it in a safe way, in such a way that they don’t transmit infection because basically that is what we want to do. “They say prostitution is one of the oldest profession, you may not be able to actually stop it but you can target them with HIV services in such a way that they don’t transmit infection to their clients. “Because once you break that transmission, then the spread of HIV would start begin to decline, so we are aware. We have identified about 618 spots in Anambra State, where female sexual workers operate. “So when we are running our programme we now target those sites with services. We have identified, I think about 50, where we have men having sex with men; because these are the things people don’t know exist, you know, but the study was able to identify those sites and they are documented. “So when we now start programming, we now reach them in those sites with services. “You know, having sex, a man having sex with a follow man carries a high risk of transmission because it is not the course of the nature, there is more tearing during such sex and whenever there is tearing and there is blood, the risk of transmission is higher.“ Ndibe said that the agency was working with NGOs, community based organisations, secondary and tertiary institutions as well as churches and women groups to deliver the HIV and AIDS message. “People should know the ABC in HIV and AIDS prevention; which A stands for Abstinence; B for Being faithful to your partners and C for using Condom anytime someone is having causal sex.’’ NAN recalls that a recent national survey of pregnant women attending anti-natal in Anambra shows that 8.7 per cent of them are living with HIV and AIDS. “IN THE DAY TIME THEY WOULD SHOUT “DESTROY THE PLACE!” DESTROY THE PLACE! DESTROY THE PLACE!. BUT DEAD IN THE NIGHT YOU SEE THEM SNEAK INTO THE PLACE TO SIP COLD ‘ROCK’ AND MIX WITH WOMAN OF EASY VIRTUE.” By OKONKWO SAMUEL I (SINCOPEDIA INC) As the noisiest part of the metropolis, it has the notoriety of harbouring close to 500 prostitutes, mostly divorcees, school drop-out and war victims. Gariki is one popular joint in Awka South. Any new comer to the state Capital and new students is first of all attracted to the place. Engaged in Prostitution as family business. The interesting situation in Gariki Amansea where it is family-based business; where you see a man, his wife and children. The husband is the love-vendor that collects the money and the customer goes in to sleep with the wife or daughters. We also have some of the situations there, where they have daughters, 14, 15 years old who ought to be in school, but they engage in sex work. It is not that Gariki holds much good in Prostitution as family business We have an interesting situation in a place called Amansea where it is family-based business; where you see a man, his wife and children. The husband is the love-vendor that collects the money and the customer goes in to sleep with the wife or daughters. We have some of the situations there, in Amansea where they have daughters, 14, 15 years old who ought to be in school, but they engage in sex work. the real sense of the world, but because its a place which have over the year assumed such a notoriety in small crimes and prostitution that only the able bodies walk through it at mid-night. Gariki in all respect could be likened to the BAYAN-GARI “Bauchi’s lively Ghetto”. A conservative estimate puts the number of hotels, brothels and other fun spots in the area at 500. Gariki holds the highest Hausa’s settlement in the Anambra State record in lawlessness. It is the noisiest part of the metropolis, and has the notoriety of harbouring close to 500 prostitutes, mostly of them divorcees, school drop-outs and war victims. In august 1995 a pub-crawler nearly lost his life in an encounter he had with a call girl. The call girl simply called Esther was said to have a plunged a dagger into the body of her lover-boy keeping her permanently as his right girl friend. There was disagreement and tension went high as Esther kePt dates with other men and the lover-boy watched restlessly. But the lover-boy lost eventually, because his attempt to stop the call girl from dating the other men ended in his being hospitalised for nearly 12 months. That’s the kind of stories that one often hears from Gariki Amansea Awka south A tenant said, he lives there simply because he had no alternative accommodation. A pastor once told me that his soul is daily troubled. “Each night,” the reverend gentleman complained, “I used to over-hear men discussing sin with their call girls.” Mind crimes are usually committed in the area. These range from thefts to burglary. At a stage, police had to be planted in the area to check some of these lawlessness. “Remove Gariki, Amansea Awka will look very dull and hausa’s settlement will have no place to go” Speaking with some of the free women interview, said they are no longer having it easy. They said the arrival of AIDS has scared most of their customers. “Anyway”, one of them said “life must go on.” The question is this: Is this place called “GARIKI” worth destroying Is this place called “GARIKI” worth destroying 1 Like |
